RFC on user conduct - assistance requested

Hi - I'm preparing an RFC on user conduct which is currently in draft form. I'd appreciate your input (on the talk page). Funcrunch (talk) 19:09, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

RFC/U is now live. Could you please certify here? Thanks! Funcrunch (talk) 03:01, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Formula One RFC

Thank you very much for your friendly message. It's indeed my goal to make as many users as possible stating their opinion. I do see that the RFC I posted might not be obvious enough, but I could still use some more specific advice. I had already provided a link to the talk page on which the article is taking place in synopsis underneath the tag. So is there any more specific way by which I can make the issue more clear? I want to add as well that I put the RFC on the Project's Talk page (and on the talk page of the broader Motorsports WikiProject) because I though more users would passing here that on the talk page of the article for one specific Formula One season. Reversions

Hey, James, slow down! Want to talk about these reversions? Duxwing (talk) 17:58, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

There is no need to discuss them. I'm reverting them because what you called "copyediting" was "stylistic changes" and made the articles unclear and/or not very readable. Ca2james (talk) 18:03, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
The usual process is Bold, Revert, Discuss. Do you think my edits were vandalism? Duxwing (talk) 18:15, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
WP:BRD is an essay, not a guideline, and is used to determine consensus. According to editing policy, making minor changes and attempting to WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM is encouraged. Some of the changes you called "copyediting" made the articles worse, not better, and I'm undoing or changing those. I don't think you are attempting to vandalize any articles; I understand that you believe that you are genuinely improving articles, even though many editors (myself included) have given you feedback to the contrary. Ca2james (talk) 18:34, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
BTW, when writing to me, please call me "ca2james", not "james". Thank you. Ca2james (talk) 00:47, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Drogue parachute may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

I need help with this user and this article about an issue that has been going on for a long time. Here's the situation; It all started on February, I read this article, 2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal and after reading it found out that it lacks a neutral point of view. So I started to edit it and after doing it, wrote every reason for my edits on the main editor's talk page, who is Lardo Balsamico.

You can see them here: Special:PermanentLink/595294983#2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal article

As you can see LardoBalsamico replied with only one sentence and didn't answer my second question. Then, I made my case to the NPOV board:

Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard/Archive 45#2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal article

It didn't get ant reply so it got "backlogged." Then I made my case to the dispute resolution board:

Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Archive 87#2011 Turkish sports corruption

Firstly, it was denied because my case was already on the NPOV board but then;

Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Archive 89#2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal

The case was closed because user LardoBalsamico didn't join in the discussion. Then I made my case to request for a comment section, it stayed there for 22 days (got no reply) then as suggested by wikipedia help line I moved my case to the NPOV board now which is there for 2 months.

Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal article (you can also read my case about the article lacking neutral point of view here)

As you can see, I went through all the dispute resolving solutions but the user LardoBalsamico didn't join in. Now, please, take a look at these links.

1)Talk:2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal#Recent edits
2)Talk:List of Turkish football champions

As you can see, every time I try to reach a consensus with LardoBalsamico, he doesn't write back, and if he does he's just stating a rule and not leaving any room to discuss his edits as you can see from this link;

User talk:Rivaner

Another issue with this user is while his edits are always perfect, the edits that doesn't fit wih his ways is either "vandalism" or "misleading info" Just look at the history of this article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2011_Turkish_sports_corruption_scandal&offset=&limit=500&action=history

If you look at a more recent edit, which done by him on 18:37 6 June 2014, he deletes a referenced part from the article by saying that it is misleading info even though it is from one of the Turkey's best selling newspaper! Another interesting thing about this user is, if you look at my contributions page:

Special:Contributions/Rivaner

You will see that on May 25,2014 I wrote a reason for my edit stating that the user has no reason to write about this article everywhere but after just 1 day he wrote it again to two different articles. What's more interesting about this user is; through my research, I found out that exactly the same thing happened to another user. As you can see from this link;

Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Archive 31#Turkish soccer (sports) match fixing (corruption) scandal LardoBalsamico did the same things to another user.

So, it is really clear that he lacks a neutral point of view about this issue and also it is very clear that he is "gaming the system". I need your help with this user because, as you can see, I have ran out of options to deal with him. Thanks for taking the time to read my request, and if you have any questions about this, I am always ready to answer.

Recently, user LardoBalsamico escalated the issue to personal attacks by calling me a "fanboy" and also suggesting me to "get a life". You can see this from here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Milli_Küme_Şampiyonası&action=history

As you can see the more civil I try to be, he is doing the exact opposite. Also he posted some warnings on my talk page as well:

User talk:Rivaner

I read the warnings and it is very clear that these warnings can also be posted on his talk page as well. To stop edit warring, I made a decision not to revert any of his edits untill this case is closed here. Again, thanks for taking the time to read my request and if you have any questions, I am always ready to answer.

P.S. I made the same request to the admins noticeboard as well, it keeps backlogging (no one replies), that is why I copy pasted the whole section. Rivaner (talk) 06:11, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

YesAllWomen RFC

Hi! We were having a conversation a couple days ago in the RFC for YesAllWomen when the discussion was abruptly closed. It's been re-opened, although it's a bit of a mess right now. I noticed you struck your concerns about OR in the discussion section, but not in the survey. I wanted to follow up on my question to you here, as I suspect that you either didn't catch it in the flurry of edits that surrounded the closing, or weren't able to reply because of the closing. -- TaraInDC (talk) 19:56, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

I did edit the section to strike that statement, but I think I did it at the same time that the section was closed. Even though I don't remember getting an editing conflict, my edit wasn't kept. Then I saw that the section had been closed so I didn't think I could edit it. Now that the rfc is open again, I've struck out that statement. Thanks for the heads up! --Ca2james (talk) 20:07, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

pov

I'm trying to stay away from that page, but I wanted to respond to something - she says but to describe how he came to kill so many more men than when our sources say that his killings were motivated by misogyny.. There are two things wrong with this statement. 1) RS have given ALL sorts of motivations, misogyny is certainly one of them, but not the only one. Thus, we're tilting the story towards one reason. 2) Multiple sources discuss how misogyny can lead to violence against men, so there's actually not anything to explain to the reader. 3) Finally, the assertion that "he wanted to kill more women" implies that he was done killing men, and that he had filled his quota. In fact, his plan was multi-part - first, roommates, then killing den in his house, then sorority, then drive the streets and kill as many others of the people he hated that he could. The sorority was obviously a key goal, but only one key goal out of 3, so making a big deal out of the sorority that didn't happen is undue - esp since that sorority story seems to support the purpose of the hashtag this page describes. This is the sort of subtle POV I was sensitive to and which led me to fight - too hard - for a different solution. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 07:44, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

We're not writing a section on the killings or their motivations themselves; we're writing a section about the origin of #yesallwomen. The RS discussing the origin of #yesallwomen do say that it started and took off because of the misogynistic nature of the killings and they do describe (briefly) why more men were killed than women. --Ca2james (talk) 15:18, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello-and thought you should know

Just so you know, Jahi Mcmath has never been declared to be permanently clinically dead,so-far, as far as what is publicly known. Technically she was clinically alive when she left the Children's hospital--this actually is part of the problem with the case of course. I replied more on the talk page Jahi Mcmath case. I cannot believe we are going into this rabbit-hole again, but with fresh-eyes i looked at the article again the other day, and it looked pretty good to me except for the implied dead "body". After re-checking a few facts there I am finding that there still are/were some mistakes in the article.24.0.133.234 (talk) 22:14, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Just a suggestion

I appreciate your effort in checking through the article I created for possible copyvio. But I don't think that bringing issues about the article you tag for deletion to the AIN is right. You can ping Demiurge on the talk page. I had also tag several aticle for deletion, I can't remember briging it to the notice board. I suggest that any discussion related to the article can be discuss on the talk page. The report on AIN is on NAC. I hope you never find my note here offensive? Its just a suggestion.Wikicology (talk) 16:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

I brought the copyvio issues to ANI because your behaviour was being discussed there and thought that the fact that you've created articles that are copyright violations was pertinent to the discussion. Had your editing behaviour not already been under discussion at ANI, I wouldn't have brought the copyvios up there. --Ca2james (talk) 16:47, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
I've commented on this at ANI, and have given the ed. a warning that I will block him if he repeats this. DGG ( talk ) 17:35, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ryan Guldemond, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Campbell River. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Section for Seriouslyonlyusernameleft

Hello Seriouslyonlyusernameleft! I'm going to ping you a few times using different syntax in this section. Ca2james (talk) 05:27, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Pinging Seriouslyonlyusernameleft using {{u|username}}. I think this still pings but it doesn't have the extra @ or : that ping uses so it's nice for using inline amongst other text.
  • Pinging Seriouslyonlyusernameleft using wikilink form [[User:username|username]]. I used to use this format but the above templates are much easier to type.

I notice that your user page (which is what is being linked to) has red text, which implies that you haven't created a user page. If you follow one of the links, you can just edit that page with some text and it'll be a noce blue link. Not that it matters. I have a bunch of userboxen describing some aspects of me there.

To enable some syntax highlighting when editing, I enabled wikEd. You could also give VisualEditor a try; it's a WYSIWYG editor that may be easier to use. Early versions were very buggy (which is why it isn't standard for everyone) but I think it works better now. Ca2james (talk) 05:44, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

thanks for all this, it is very helpful!!!Seriouslyonlyusernameleft (talk) 16:42, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
annnnnd i forgot to add my signature, sighSeriouslyonlyusernameleft (talk) 16:42, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
You're quite welcome! I was reading about Visual Editor and apparently it doesn't work on Talk pages, so it might not be useful to you. I also saw that it's possible to redirect your user page to your Talk page if you wanted to get rid of the red link. There are editors that keep that red link for a long time, however. Thanks

for the thanks but, really, it is no good doing it privately. That won't get the message across, if that is a message that you can generally agree with. - Sitush (talk) 05:44, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I have previously commented on this behaviour and I do see your point Sitush - at the same time, I didn't want to clutter up that Talk page any more than it already is. However, I've only posted a couple of comments there so I'll see what I can do. Ca2james (talk) 14:50, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I didn't realise that, sorry - contrary to rumour, I don't follow people around that much! If you don't want to clutter, perhaps it could be said on the user talk page? I'm not welcome there, obviously. This is all such a mess, it really is, but I've no desire to see anyone go whom I think could adapt. - Sitush (talk) 14:55, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm not hunting around to see if you acted on the stuff above. I have no idea if you have any sway but this, while an understandable reaction, is at once premature and inflammatory. The case isn't over and, even if it were, doing what she suggests and making those baseless accusations as she does would pretty much guarantee that any appeal is refused. Is she aware of the difference between "indefinite" and "permanent"? She has the chance to appeal and, frankly, the entire case has been shamefully managed. - Sitush (talk) 14:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Actually, ignore me. She has since posted on the ArbCom case page and I'm afraid that she has almost certainly sealed her fate. - Sitush (talk) 16:44, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
I did post on her Talk page and she removed it without comment. I'm very sad to see that she has posted on the arbcom talk page because she has, as you say, sealed her fate. There's still a chance that one of the arbs might change their mind but it's looking less likely now.
I agree that the whole case has been a mess from the beginning. Maybe it shouldn't have been brought up at all - or at least not called the GGTF since it's only tangentially related to the group. Ca2james (talk) 17:16, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Ah, well it seems unlikely she will be receptive to anything you say, then. Sorry about that. The GGTF hook was the start of the problem, together with the proposition coming from someone who thereafter was only tangentially involved and who, frankly, has been doing a lot of poor pseudo-admin stuff all over the place of late. The RfC/U proposal is just the latest in the line. - Sitush (talk) 17:41, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
I replied on the GGTF Talk page anyways because I really don't want to see her permanently banned. I hope that she reconsiders her statements. Ca2james (talk) 17:40, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

I'd list them separately, maybe a few together if they are based on the same topic. The ones without names seem fair and the cats one may be more questionable, the veterans ones may be considered a fork that needs to be merged. Hmm...

...the statement is specifically "what *it* claims..."

Meaning, you are talking about what it claims. As this is not what the site claims, the statement as written is not true.

This is corroborated by the source you cite:

"Elam claimed it's not anger but satire and social commentary." (10th paragraph).

Oh, and there is nothing in the source that supports the article as previously written, that the site "claims to be about a space for venting anger" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.157.38.18 (talk) 16:39, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

So the source you cite for that claim explicitly and literally contradicts that claim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.157.38.18 (talk) 16:29, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes I see that; thank you for pointing it out. I have modified your edit slightly for readability. Going forward, please bring this up over at Talk:A Voice for Men so that others can see it, too. Thanks! Ca2james (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Not formed in error?

It was formed "in error". It is on a talk page, and is not even listened at WP:SPI because it was not formed correctly. Please delete the page and ask to file a request properly per the instructions at WP:SPI. RGloucester 15:59, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

RGloucester, SPI is semi-protected and IPs cannot edit it, which is why the IP did not create the page at WP:SPI. In fact, at WP:SPI, it says If you are an anonymous (IP address) editor, please click "show" to the right and use the box below to create a report. When an editor types a name and submits it there, the report is created on the Talk page. Therefore, there was no error in creating the page. Ca2james (talk) 16:09, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
If it isn't listed at SPI, how can it be an SPI? RGloucester 16:11, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
I don't understand your question. Of course it's not an SPI report yet because it's not listed at SPI, but what does that have to do with your attempt to delete the page? The page was created within the SPI reporting process for IPs, who cannot create a report on WP:SPI themselves. The IP editor followed instructions, the report was created as a subpage of the Talk page and includes a request that the page be moved to SPI by an autoconfirmed user. That's the process for IPs to create SPI reports: the report is created in Talk space with a request to move it to SPI. The fact that it hasn't yet been moved to SPI and so it isn't listed at SPI is no reason to delete it. Ca2james (talk) 16:26, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
