User talk:Caulde/Archive/13
Most of this archive is regarding an event that occured on January 19. It's pretty self-explanatory if you read below.
A query
This is by no means a formal complaint, it is a query to understand something that I find distasteful and have never seen done. I ask you because your name is on her user page. User:Yamanbaiia reverted an edit I made. I chose to not make a big deal and went to her page to explain why I did what I did. Somewhere along the line, a couple of exchanges, she decided to bring the discussion to the talk page of the article Talk:CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. When doing so, she did not indicate that the conversation did not originate on the page (she actually took it from my talk page, not from hers), nor did she indicate what was there was a copy of a discussion not something I put on the talk page. When discussing something on a talk page of an article, I would be more formal in style. I find this behaviour offensive at the very least. What I'm wondering is what is the precedent for this type of thing? I would never move a conversation from my talk page to an article without some type of acknowledgment. As such, I have removed my comments as that is not where I placed them. Does my removal of comments placed with my signature in a place where I did not put them violate any rule that I may be unaware of? Thank you for your time. IrishLass (talk) 20:34, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- I am having a hard time trying to determine what is the case in point here. Although I sympathise with your position, I can't recall any single precedent which may be used. Are you saying that you contacted her over something about CSI on her talk page and then she removed that without your knowledge and placed it onto the talk page of the relevant article? If so, I can explain further. Regards, Rudget. 21:00, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- We were discussing a policy, i moved the conversation to the article's talk page so as to have other people views on the matter. I'm sorry, i now know some people don't like this and i will ask for their permission next time.--Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 21:09, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. I don't see any other form of a solution. I also apologise to IrishLass if Wikipedia seems a scary place, it's a friendly community and I'm sure you'll be able to fit right in. If you want to ask any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Best, Rudget. 21:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's normally OK to quote people. It's all under GFDL, anyway. I think you just need to make it clear by saying "I've moved these comments from such-and-such page", or maybe even put them in quotation marks or something. I've seen people moving comments before. It can be OK. It can be better to get permission first but not always necessary. One problem to avoid would be having discussion about the same thing in two different places. Moving comments could either create that problem, or solve it, depending on the situation. A lot of it is about just trying to imagine how you would feel if you were the other person, but also realizing that different people will react differently. --Coppertwig (talk) 22:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry, I left work before you replied yesterday. What I was asking was is it acceptable and encouraged to remove something from someone else's talk page, not their own, to another page and creating a section and having everything look like I created the section. Basically, it looked like I had gone to the CSI page and started a discussion when I had not. Yamanbaiia started the section using my comments with my signature with no indication that she copied it from different pages. I was attempting to find out if that is normal for people to do. I have seen it only one time but it was a move from a users page by a user to a project page. That was a different scenario and the person indicated that all information was copied, not originally put on the project page, from her user page. And while I understand a talk page is not private, I believe there should be some respect in regards to moving information from someone else's page. IrishLass (talk) 14:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

...for your support in my recently closed Request for Adminship. I am more than a bit stunned by the outcome, which appears to have finished at 146 supports, no opposes, and one abstention. I am particularly grateful to Keilana and Kingboyk for their recent encouragement, and most specifically to Pastordavid, for having seen fit to nominate me. I also want to make it very clear to everyone that I have no intentions of changing my name again, so the servers should be safe for a while.
In the event you ever believe that I would ever able to assist in the future, I would be honored if you were to contact me regarding the matter. I can't guarantee results, unfortunately, but I will do what I can. Thank you again.
By the way, I know the image isn't necessarily appropriate, but I am rather fond of it, and it at least reflects the degree of honor I feel at the result. And it's hard to go wrong with a Picture of the Year candidate.
Now, off to a few last tasks before starting work in earnest on the various templates I promised I'd work on.
John Carter (talk) 21:47, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- While I acknowledge the possibility of becoming involved in deletions, I'm not really sure that I'm the best person to do such things. The ones I've seen just looking them over seem to be to at least potentially qualify for being kept, and I'm not that sure of my own abilities in such unilateral action, certainly not yet. I am sorry to disappoint you in this way, as I know the amount of work involved, having seen the page, but should probably at least initially work in the fields I ran to work in, working on the protected templates. I have seen the amount of work involved, however, and promise to become involved in the future to the degree possible. John Carter (talk) 22:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
RfA Thanks
Hi Rudget - thanks for your participation in my request for adminship. It passed 52/0/0, and I'm now in possession of a shiny new mop. If I can ever help you with anything, please don't hesitate to contact me. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 08:17, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Yikes. All shall love me and despair. I thought my RfA was closing tomorrow. Then I read your message on my talk page. Then I saw all those shiny new buttons! I'm giddy with anticipation. Please watchlist my contribs, I might just delete someone's userpage accidentally in my jubilation...just kidding. Good luck to you as well! I'm stealing the admin userbox off your page right now...Keeper | 76 17:46, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I didn't extend it, I edit conflicted with you. I just looked at the past week, and then previous protections and thought it was a fairly high profile target that warranted longer protection. If you disagree, I won't protest about shortening the protection level. I have added it to my watchlist anyway. Woody (talk) 17:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Explain
Rudget you need to explain all this pronto. If the post on the user page is true, someone hijacked your account and is playing a prank as you'd still be in the hospital as your account just edited. If it's not true, then the same is still true. — Rlevse • Talk • 16:56, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Your cousin, that knows the ins and outs of Wikipedia, knows about indentation and the oversight request page, decided that once he had control of your account that he's just post on your userpage, and not abuse the administrator tools? I'm having trouble believing this, and my concerns would be greatly alleviated if you could provide us with that account name so we can attempt to verify what you say. --Deskana (talk) 17:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

How 'bout a big ole cup of tea and a sit down here
Rudget is a good user and a fair admin. Rudget's cousin came on his account and said Rudget was dying in a hospital. Now Rudget is (thankfully) not dying in a hospital. That's good news. Rudget has called his cousin a bast**d and the bast**d did nothing else but put a hoax message on Rudget's userpage. He did not vandalize the mainpage, block any users, or anything else. Let Rudget off the hook here. He had prayers calling out to Saint Anthony de Padua (among others)a minute ago, now he's got pitchforks and torches? Have some tea and a good laugh and be glad nothing was compromised other than Rudget's pride. Give your cousin a good slap for me, Rudget. Cheers, Keeper | 76 17:15, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

- Admin is no big deal though. And how do you "catch a prankster" before they commit a prank? And the only prank was a dastardly userpage replacement that we fell for (yourself included). Not a main page compromise. No blocked users. No massive rollbacks and vandalism. Rudget isn't hurt beyond pride. He will likely log off the Wik to take a piss from now on, and no damages are done. I move for archiving. Any seconds? Keeper | 76 17:54, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
