About template

[edit]

There is a good example of the value of the about template at Pharmacy. Its purpose is to receive visitors who actually wanted to read about the shops rather than the people in them. In other words, {{about}} intercepts common alternative meanings that this article is not about "but I know an article that does". Or articles, using a disambiguation article.

The other main use is as in the case of the trade agreements article: we use it to say that this article does not give the full picture, the rest is over there.

Does that explain sufficiently? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 08:27, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that I am not as well versed on the templates available for use (I only know (4 - 5 templates well out of hundreds if not thousands), I will have to look up the templates wiki page and browse them to get myself up to scratch with the main templates. ChefBear01 (talk) 06

You haven't a hope! There are just too many. All you can ever really expect to do is notice their use in articles that interest you, then make a note for future use. My own user:John Maynard Friedman page is almost entirely such a collection. Feel free to raid it. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 07:41, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Union (comics)

[edit]

@Kaihsu: would it be reasonable to move a redirect page onto drafts in order to move a new draft space article into its place and then tag to merge the history of the redirect page into the new page, or do admins have a process to move pages in that situation. @Nightenbelle:
I usually put them through the request process as some of the articles I have created in the past around this topic have not met WP:CONSENSUS.
I would rather ensure articles on this topic have WP:CONSENSUS before they are moved to WP:MAINSPACEChefBear01 (talk) 16:22, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then don't put them through the process until they have consensus. I don't know what else to tell you- the page met the requirements to be moved to the mainspace. You can nominate it for deletion if you prefer.Nightenbelle (talk) 17:02, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is no problem if it has been accepted article reviewer I just won’t move them myself. ChefBear01 (talk) 17:07, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 09:18, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages and archiving

[edit]

Please stop deleting talk page sections that have not been archived. The sections you deleted are not present on any subpage of the relevant talk page. Failing to do that means you are breaching the behavioural guideline WP:TPO. As per WP:TALKCOND, talk pages only really require archiving at 75 kB and above. The current ~6 kB does not need archiving. If you need guidance on how to set up talk page archiving in general, see H:ARC. Cambial foliar❧ 22:13, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Cambial Yellowing:
Thank you for the links to the relevant help articles, I have been archiving them is by creating a section on the talk page, creating a table with a list of months and linking back to the particular version of the page from that month.
I will review the methods of archiving and use page space as a guide instead of my current monthly archive which I used mainly to provide a guide for consistency. ChefBear01 (talk) 23:17, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
