Help me![edit]

Please help me with... I published this article, but when I search for it the article doesn't show up. Joan Brown (artist) Claire.ringer (talk) 21:19, 17 November 2020 (UTC) Claire.ringer (talk) 21:19, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It takes time for search engines to index pages, you will need to be patient. Since it has been formally marked as reviewed, it should not be too long. 331dot (talk) 21:50, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

November 2020[edit]

Information icon Hi Claire.ringer! I noticed that you have marked several edits as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 18:46, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ThatMontrealIP! Thank you for this! I'm a new editor and am still learning the ropes, so I appreciate this clarification. I will be sure to do it correctly in the future! Claire.ringer (talk) 21:58, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Claire.ringer. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Joan Brown (artist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Additionally is there any additional conflict of interest to Oklahoma State University? Jooojay (talk) 09:37, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Joojay! Thank you for this concern. I am a student at Oklahoma State University, which does hold the interview used as the primary source in this article. However, Joan Brown is in no way associated with OSU, I do not know her personally, and this article was in no way sponsored by her tribe. I chose to link to her interview to make it easy for readers to access that primary source. Finally, on my user page I do have a brief bio that declares I am a student at OSU but promises not to let that conflict with my work on Wikipedia. Is this sufficient to prevent any conflict of interest, or is there something else I should add as well? I'd like to avoid this concern in the future, so any tips are welcome. Thanks again!
