Hello--would you care to comment for a quote?
[edit]Hi! So as you may know your periodic table img. has been discussed lately and I am working on something for the next Signpost, (scroll down a little) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/Next_issue/In_the_media . We would love to hear what you think or any comments we could use there-thank-youTeeVeeed (talk) 00:05, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi TeeVeeed, Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'd clicked "Add a comment" and wrote the following but it doesn't appear (perhaps it's still in draft mode). Cheers, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 01:55, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hello! [1] I'm the illustrator responsible for the infamous periodic table. I was surprised by its selection as NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day and the subsequent criticism of its veracity.[2] I'm no expert in physics and just go by the sources I find – in this case, perhaps a rather questionable one. But isn't "Be Bold" a Wikipedia principle? Instead of being a finished product, I see it as a work to be improved and refined by the community. I'm more than willing to correct the errors, but seeing that different commentators have different thoughts on what the correct version should be, as I'd written on its talk page, 'The question is, "do we have an authoritative source that everyone can agree with?"' I'd like to hear your views! cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 01:55, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thank-you for the reply, and your thoughtful consideration of the matter. JFTR-I agree with you about being bold there. And even if there are errors, having errors is better than having nothing in my opinion, as at least the errors give someone else something to build on or correct. Yes that is the draft page by the way.TeeVeeed (talk) 11:25, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your work
[edit]File:Comparison_gender_life_expectancy_CIA_factbook.svg is an excellent graph and even nicer with the interactivity. The data is very well presented. Your work is much appreciated. —DIYeditor (talk) 03:47, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi DIYeditor, Many thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you found it useful, and encouraged to make more illustrations! Cheers, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 21:57, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
Age puzzle
[edit]Old tells young guy, "When I was your age, you were x years old. When you become my age, I'll be y years old." How old is each?
- Old age = (2y + x) / 3
- Young age = (y + 2x) / 3
- x = 2 (young age) - (old age)
- y = 2 (old age) - (young age) [2 (young age) > (old age)]

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Menger sponge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cross-section. Constellation image
[edit]Hi -- One of the the benefits of this discussion has been the opportunity to peruse your vast catalog of images! But I've got two suggestions for the constellation image(s): (1) The proper date for the Bayer group is 1597, not 1603, as they were introduced by Plancius's globe in the former year. Bayer simply stole them for Uranometria. (2) The official IAU name is Corona Australis, not Corona Austrina. (In fact, except for historical footnotes, I've never seen the latter form in use.) -- Elphion (talk) 01:27, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Elphion, Thanks for your compliment and corrections about my constellation maps – duly noted! Please let me know if there are any other corrections to be made, so I can have them all in one place when the Menzel issue is resolved. Cheers, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 12:06, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Women in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom
[edit]Hi Cmglee, I remember your visualisation of the Boat Race and Women's Boat Race results and while working on Mother of the House and Women in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, I thought it would be fascinating to do a visualisation of the List of female Members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom to show the cumulative unique number of women elected to the House of Commons over time and the actual number of women MPs elected to each parliament. Do you think this might be feasible? Whizz40 (talk) 19:06, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Whizz40, Thanks for your suggestion. It's certainly possible to make such an illustration, but the situation is completely different: the Boat Race is a sporting event where the intention, within each category, is to beat the other place. I don't think politics should be seen as a competition where each gender tries to score as many MPs as possible – the best person for the role should get it.
- Also curiously, the Boat Race is pretty evenly matched such that the lead has often changed. This makes a historical graph interesting. If we were, say, comparing the number of Prime Ministers from Oxford or Cambridge, the graph would be boring. I don't think the total number of female MPs will come close to male ones (in history!) any time soon.
- Cheers, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 22:35, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Cmglee, thanks for replying. Sorry, I wasn't clear - I wasn't thinking of comparing male and female MPs, I agree there would be little benefit in that. I think it is the progress of female MPs that is intersting, and there are two different ways to illustrate this (cumulative and annual). I'm sure there were some years it acclerated (1945, 1997) and some years it declined. I think the graph would be useful to illustrate Women in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom and List of female Members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Many people may not even be aware of the year female MPs first joined the commons, or how there was a dip, I think, in the 1970s and then little progres until the 1990s. Whizz40 (talk) 06:43, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
- Do you have the stats from a reputable site? (I'd rather not have to parse the table on List_of_female_Members_of_the_House_of_Commons_of_the_United_Kingdom!) I'll run it through Excel to see how it looks. Cheers, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 21:52, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

DYK for North West Cambridge Development
[edit]On 3 November 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article North West Cambridge Development, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Cambridge University's new North West Cambridge Development has a school building shaped like a Polo mint? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/North West Cambridge Development. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, North West Cambridge Development), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
