The culture - within tubes again

Courcelles, I guess it's time for a semi-permanent protect of The Culture page, within 11 hours of dumbot taking the protection off when it expired, our non-favorite sock is at the "within tubes" idiocy again. I have reverted, please issue the protect again. Thanks for all your help. Timmccloud (talk) 05:14, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Um, please fix the link? Courcelles 14:29, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The Culture would be the correct link - found by looking through Timmccloud's contribs. Arctic Night 16:10, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Aaah, thanks. Two months semi. Looks like blocking 86.128.0.0/16 would help, though there is one IP on 86.136 that throws it off, and I despise blocking /16's because of the huge potential for hitting the wrong target, the range is simply huge- and given it is BT, the range is actually larger than the 65,000 IP's it contains. Getting the job done would probably require blocking 86.128.0.0/12 and that is absolutely not an option- we're not blocking a million folks for one vandal, period.
I understand about the IP blocking, and appreciate any effort you can give; I suspect their ISP uses rotating IP's. At this point it looks like semi is the only option until whoever it is gets tired of the sophomoric pranks. Thank you so much for your help, and thank's Arctic for catching that. Timmccloud (talk) 05:19, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey Courcelles!

I did submit this to AIV but the bot has removed it thinking I was reporting the IP for vandalism when it had been blocked :)

Anyway, since you've blocked the IP, they've now started vandalising their talk page. Well, some people might find that offensive and off-putting if they're re-assigned the IP. Was going to suggest to you that talk page access is also revoked?--5 albert square (talk) 00:10, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Handled; reblocked and semi-ed the talk page. I'm not going to drop the Arb hammer this time, but more nationalism will likely get it handed tot them soon enough. Courcelles 00:13, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I've just blocked an IP range. That should shut them up, but it's a big range, so I it's only 72 hours. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
89.164.0.0/16? Yeah, can't block that one for long, even 72 h may be a tad much. Hopefully this fellow will just get bored. Courcelles 02:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind, but I've restored this article (can I dispute a PROD a little late? :P). The reason for this is because I think the PROD rationale was very broad and an unsupported claim, given that there were some sources in the article already. If you want to bring it to AfD, be my guest; I just haven't been as active onwiki as usual and didn't think the original PROD was very specific/reasonable. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:31, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Meh, I don't see BIO being passed there, but I'm not the guy who prodded the thing. Might be a good idea to notify whoever prodded it- I just cleaned out the PRODS that were starting to stink... Courcelles 03:43, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Kids of 88 Sugarpills

Thankyou for posting that to me and letting me be aware of that fact. You see the reason it is not on an article is because Adabow had redirect Sugarpills to Kids of 88. So you can delete it for now but if it charts then i'm just going to re-upload and re-create the article. :D

(ReganS5203 (talk) 04:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC))

Or feelf ree to come ask me to restore the image, it's not a problem at all. G7'ed for now. Courcelles 12:02, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Courcelles,
I'm writing to you because it seems that you (probably) have deleted this article.

21:08, 9 January 2011 Courcelles (talk | contribs) deleted "Gary Barnacle" ‎ (Expired PROD, concern was: lack of notability - played sessions with notables, but didnt make the credit list as far as Ive searched - band Leisure Process also appears nn)

I wrote "probably" because I can not find it in your contributions list:

  • 21:26, 9 January 2011 (diff | hist) User talk:24.60.226.7 ‎ (You have been blocked from editing for persistent vandalism. (TW)) (top)

...NOR the edit of the editor who placed the {{PROD}} on that page:

  • 17:28, 2 January 2011 (diff | hist) Adrian Rigby ‎ (one ref) (top)

Also, the review process is not listed in Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2011 January 9 NOR in other archives.

About the notability of Gary Barnacle, the "deletion decision" seems to me very-very/ultra questionable, and as far as I can read, the fact that he is not "listed" is totally false. I have an original copy of the triple and also the re-mastered version on 2-CD, and in both cases Gary Barnacle is listed among the guest musicians together with his brother. A simple "gigolo" search produces about 48,000 results, there is a page dedicated to him at Discogs, and about 190 articles on the English Wikipedia link to that page, ...and that is what I found in about 30 seconds (the time to read the album cover and run the gigolo search tool.) Also.... Do you think that Victuallers notified authors and projects about the deletion process??? I don't think so!!! I will not watchlist this page (my watchlist id too big) so, please, place a {{talkback}} on my talk page if you want/need to say something about this, but it would be really great of you if you can speedily undelete the page. Cheers. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 13:19, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Read WP:PROD to understand how this deletion process works. Deletions would show up in my admin logs, but never in my edits. I'll be happy to restore this as a contested PROD once you provide me one reliable source discussing this person, as I will in no circumstances restore an unsourced BLP without clear promise of imminent sourcing. (You may also try WP:REFUND) Courcelles 19:47, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Template:UK-SLD protection

Hello! As the admin who semi-protected Template:UK-SLD, I wondered whether you'd mind now semi-protecting Template:UK-LEG, it's replacement? Until UK-SLD is removed fully it would make sense to keep it semi-protected I think. ninety:one (reply on my talk) 17:59, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Done, as I'm assuming the mere 20 transclusions is a temporary condition waiting for someone to make an AWB run or similar. Courcelles 18:02, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, I've been banging on about it for two months now but no-one else has done anything, so I'll have to sort it all out myself, ah well! ninety:one (reply on my talk) 22:14, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Mah image!

Hey, I'm going to restore this if that's OK with you. I made it myself with Photoshop - no idea why I wrote otherwise, but I've got the PSD from the original document in front of me right now. Just thought I'd let you know before I go undoing other peoples' actions. Cheers, m.o.p 03:05, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

No worries; as long as the "Using an image from a PD site." doesn't stay listed as the source. Courcelles 03:07, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

List

Hi! I saw you were involved with a previous nomination for deletion of List of suicides in fiction, and felt you should be informed of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of suicides in fiction (3rd nomination). Thanks!--Yaksar (let's chat) 17:35, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

RE: Orphaned non-free image File:Cover of 'Never Mind the Balkans, Here's Romania'.jp

Hi Courcelles, I uploaded this image in advance as User:Mike Ormsby is currently drafting the article about the book to which this cover image belongs. It could be that the image is deleted (February 10) before the article is sufficiently developed to go online. What is the best course of action? Can I postpone deletion or will I simply have to re-upload the image once the article hits mainspace? Thanks, Pim Rijkee (talk) 10:43, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

If it gets deleted, it can always be restored by a request at WP:REFUND. I don't know of any way to keep it from getting tagged as orphaned- if a human doesn't do it, a bot eventually will (at least in theory, the bot has been hit and miss lately.) Courcelles 00:45, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for your reply. Pim Rijkee (talk) 13:17, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Your assistance please

You closed the afd on

You closed this {{afd}} without saying why you discounted the arguments for keeping these articles. When I asked you for further explanation you wrote: 8 articles I haven't so much as thought about for a month? This... isn't going to happen tonight.

OK, so I didn't wait for you to respond on January 27th. Today is February 4th -- over a week later. Is it possible for you to give a prediction as to how long it will take you to provide a helpful response?

If you are finding it difficult to explain your closure decision perhaps you could start by responding to my suggestion that when an administrator deletes material (1) they might think the material was irredeemably out of scope; (2) or they might think the material could be restored to article space with more work -- like more references. Perhaps you could start your explanation by going on record as to whether you thought the articles on the topics of the articles you deleted could be restored to article space with more work? Geo Swan (talk) 11:58, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Let's go through these- sorry for the delay. Mohammed Nasim (Guantanamo captive 849); fails BIO, non-notable, likely should never have an article unless things change radically. Nasrullah (Guantanamo detainee 886), fails BIO, again no significant coverage, heavier use of primary sources here, unlikely to ever merit an article. Mohammed Hashim seems to have one full source written about him, the problem is that it is a blog; which doesn't cut it for a BLP. Possible, if the sourcing got a complete and total upgrade, but I don't know if that is realistic to hope for. Rahmatullah Sangaryar is hopeless, the coverage is either boilerplate or USGOV sources, nothing in-depth about him. Very, very little chance. Abdul Razzak Hekmati, as a non-BLP has a chance. Needs several more sources like [1] and would still be susceptible to a BIO1E challenge- is he notable only for dying? Abdul Ghani (Guantanamo detainee 934) entirely primary sources; even the NYT source is really just a reprint of USGOV documents hosted there. Fails BIO completely. Abdul Bagi (detainee) is so close to the last one that repeating myself would be all I can do. Bismullah (Guantanamo detainee 968) is at least possible, if the sourcing was totally overhauled. Norullah Noori has a shot at passing POLITICIAN, if the claim of being governor of Balkh Province could be substantiated, but the sourcing is among the worst of the lot. This is the only one I could see a clear roadmap to getting back into articlespace, and even it is by no means guaranteed. Courcelles 17:07, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
I am going to remind you that you declined to userify all but one of these articles, so I can't meaningfully discuss these with you.
WRT the one exception, Hekmati, can I ask how closely you looked at the NYTimes article? It is over 2300 words. Its long. It is detailed. I am very surprised to read that you think an article about him would be vulnerable to a meaningful "1 event" challenge. Would it be possible for you to take a second look at the NYTimes article, with an eye to counting how many of the events it describes you recognize as events that would be recognized as events that would be considered events during a wikipedia one event challenge? Geo Swan (talk) 21:55, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Try REFUND, you're likely to find an admin who doesn't have the same opposition to userified BLP's that I do, though I know I'm not the only one that operates that way. As to Hekmati, one article is never, in any circumstances, enough to prove notability. What else is he notable for than dying, though? I can't see it. Courcelles 22:18, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

What is wrong with you?

Choppa, CJ Mac, D-Shot (The Shot Calla and Six Figures), Celly Cel. You have deleted several notable articles and have given no indication as to why. Do what's best for Wikipedia and restore them before things get worse. Live and Die 4 Hip Hop (talk) 21:48, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Go to WP:REFUND; I do not respond to people who come to my talk page and insult me. Courcelles 21:53, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
I didn't insult you, I insulted your deletion of these notable articles. I bid you farewell, better luck with deleting articles in the future, I have some articles to save. Live and Die 4 Hip Hop (talk) 23:04, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Courcelles. I'd like to direct your attention here, a user wanted to request something of you but your talk page was protected. -- œ 13:01, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Yup the link was right, but it looks like PeterSymonds handled it already. -- œ 00:22, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Or rather, it WAS right.. it got moved, the thread is now at the bottom of the "Fulfilled/denied requests" section. -- œ 00:24, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
