Being followed around aka Help?[edit]

Hello, DaGizza, I have a small problem. Usually, I'm known as User:Plumcouch, but I created this account in order to be able to inform an admin. I wrote this on User:Yamla's discussion page:

Hello, Yamla,
User:King Dracula keeps vandalising actor Surya's page:
tried to talk to him (see here:[1]) but to no avail. He wouldn't answer.
The article got worse when he started to edit it with several double mentions and a clumsy introduction. Also, he keeps adding ::co-stars and directors to the filmography. None of the featured article actor pages have those and there are generally not added.
See for his edits here:
  1. [2]
  2. [3]
  3. [4] the same edit was made by User:Kadavul before you banned him.
  4. [5]
Could you talk to him?
Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 12:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, User:King Dracula did revert the message as he did with some of my edits he felt unconfortable with. I'm not sure if User:Yamla will get the message if User:King Dracula will delete it again, as Dracula is obviously monitoring my contributions as Plumcouch, so I'm writing you under another nick. Didn't know what else I could do.

Could you have a word with User:King Dracula, please?

Best regards, --Yellowchair 12:38, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

regarding Hindi Wiki[edit]

I'd be delighted to do so,as soon as I can figure out how to type in Hindi properly (my fonts and locales are set up, but my Hindi typing skills are atrocious). Plus, I've been toying with the idea of doing something in the Bangla Wikipedia as well (which is in far worse shape). Thanks for putting it in my mind though. Up for deletion review. There is a cat for Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, anglican etc. politicians so I don't see why there isn't a Hindu cat. Since you are an admin, your words will weigh more than mine. Rama's arrow supports the Hindu cat as well.Bakaman Bakatalk 16:22, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roman Hindi[edit]

Is there something wherein i can edit on Roman hindi. My devanagari typing is pathetic.nids(♂) 17:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will do for hindi as per your suggestions. By the way, i just have to ask you that how you manage sanskrit wiki. I know a bit of sanskrit. I studied it till tenth. But you cant edit articles with that knowledge. How do you edit on Sanskrit wiki. And can users like me of any use on sanskrit wiki.nids(♂) 08:58, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

anti-Brahmanist edits on Anti-Brahmanism[edit]

Hi,

I could surely use help in the Anti-Brahmanism article and the Talk:Anti-Brahmanism page where I believe that User:Holywarrior is touting rabidly anti-Brahmanist statements (and edits) and demanding that self-professed anti-Brahmin Kancha Ilaiah be sourced as an authority on anti-Brahminism (an argument as absurd as quoting Hitler on anti-Semitism I should say). Thanks.Shiva's Trident 17:14, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since you are the only helpful Indian admin (until Akash, Rama's arrow, deepujoseph etc. become admin) you may want to check out the garbge being posted on that page. Subhash bose got blocked for one week for combatting garbage like this [6] (vio of BLP + unencyclopedic crap). Infact the page history is here. Why are we so persecuted so much? Bakaman Bakatalk 21:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gizza. Just noticed your comments on my ER. Thanks for the support. I am really in no hurry for admin tools. They can be usful at times but I am absolutely fine without them too. There are a lot of people who can help immediately if I do need anything. The place where I really want to help in DYK updating. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 12:09, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by Sarvagnya[edit]

Hi Girik Sehgal, I wanted to bring to your attention the edits by a particular user, Sarvagnya. This particular user is roaming over the entire wikipedia and removing all references to Hindi wherever possible. In the discussion pages he spits venom all the times. At least see the articles, histories and discussion pages of the following articles: Jana Gana Mana
Vande Mataram
Belgaum. His recent editing are now on the Hindi page itself.
On the Jana Gana Mana page, I have given him all the authoritative and official references, still he keeps on blabbering on the discussion page and kept removing the Hindi version of the anthem. Since his acts are not limited to a single article, so I can not request for conflict resolution or arbitration. I need help. What is the process by which the stupid acts of such users can be checked. Thanks. - Apandey

Thanks for helping out on Vande Mataram. I had no problem with Bengali and Devanagri side by side either.Bakaman Bakatalk 23:57, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hindi Wikipedia[edit]

Namashkar bhai saab. Thanks for your suggestion. I will take time to consider this possibility. Jdas07 20:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am sure that your are fine. I refer to this. Now, the problem has been resolved, I would be able to do edits in Devnagri script too in Hindi wikipedia. Only problem is the slow speed of editing, and the limited time at my disposal. Thanks and plz remain in touch. --Bhadani 02:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some help at this template?[edit]

Hi could you help out with this template Template:Hinduism in India? Specifically, if I add template:India-stub below it, it seems to "eat it up". Also, could you tell me if you think that this is a good idea for wikipedia? Thanks, BabubTalk 05:54, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I join that project what I will have to do? I can provide the number of Hindus residing in most of the countries in the world. I don't think I have a deep knowledge in anything else.

Hi[edit]

Hi Girik,

i hope you remember. i'd left wikipedia for good a few months ago. there seems to have been a heck of battle over my Fundy Watch project. i'm distressed at all the libelous/slanderous comments flung at me in my absense. could you give me a lil' background on the events that led to the deletion of that project. I've become throuhgly dissillusioned with Wikipedia and the ingrained systematic bias against Indian/Hindu perspective. I dont hope to come back anytime soon! Will be busy with imp. exams this year.

Regards

Hi thanks for the link.. very illuminating... especially the vitriol coming from certain people whom i've not even known. The problem with so called "neutral" non-Indian admins who are interested in Indian topics is that they are afflicted by what you can term "Saffron blur", seeing Hindutvadis everywhere. Rather than objectively respond to ciritcism Witzel-worshipping admins like Zora go on whining Hindutva. They view Hindutva as some sort of a monolithic and influential group. Their high handedness and apparent agenda in dealing with editorial disputes has certainly alienated me.

Neeways, i'm off... wont have time for wikipedia tis year since i'll be taking A Levels, blogging takes most of my spare time. Maybe i'll return next year when i'm at uni...

seeking advice[edit]

Babub's behaviour is increasingly getting incivil. This is evident here and here. It is hard for me to continue any form of debate with him. For one, he cant defend it logically and two, he is using incivil remarks. He is also using incivil revert summaries like this. I dont want to list this incident in the Administrators noticeboard for he has done a good job in Hinduism and related articles. All i want him to concede is that Hinduism is more than Advaita vedanta. I just want to know if there is a easier way than to list the incident on WP:AN. I feel that should be the last option. Thanks and waiting for your advice.nids(♂) 19:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

blnguyen[edit]

Wow, I wish he'd come back. I'm actually fearing retribution from a certain admin now for confronting him over racist comments and for supporting Blnguyen against him on WP:ANI.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:27, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sanskrit Wikipedia[edit]

Sure, I'd definitely like that. Do you have something specific in mind? Metlin 04:42, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article was in a terrible state. Some anon had put in a lot of useless and irrelevant information (he confused Ayurveda with Homeopathy, Oy Vey!) and attacked Auyrveda "scientifically" in a most unscientific way. I think I cleared up most of the edits and kept legitimate scientific criticisms. I want the article to have the same standards and precedents as other traditional medicine articles like Acupuncture or Reiki. Could you please take a look, read the sources cited (I read some) and check if they're okay?If you have any knowledge of sources I'd be very grateful if you could contribute. Please do consider looking at it. Thanks.Hkelkar 07:02, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I thank you for your wishes. I feel sad at those "comments". However, in real life I have seen things even worse than such comments. Such comments are not going to kill true wikipedians! --Bhadani 13:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

I believe that you have acted unfairly and un-wikipedia in continuously reverting the additions of Guru Nanak's influence on the rights of women in this area - these are valid and well known facts that have been recorded in the history of the region. You are trying to maintain your narrow view-point and this action is in breach of WP:NPOV. How do you justify your stand regarding this unfair action?

Guru Nanak's contributions are well known and very relevant not only to this region but to the whole issue of women's rights worldwide. I ask you to reconsider this with an open mind and check the history and the quotations. Can you tell me why you have been reverting these changes? What WP rules are you following? You say that this is preaching Sikhism – this has no relevance to the issue in hand. Just because Guru Nanak Dev was Sikh, does not mean that his contribution cannot be entered here. His talked about women rights and the other un-justices against women in the area – So that makes this very relevant.

The contributions are very important as they talk against Sati, purdah, etc and gives equal rights to women, when their rights were being abused worldwide – Are these things significant to you and the article? I do not want to engage in an edit-war and I ask you to re-evaluate your stand on this issue. I await your reply. Many thanks. --17:11, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Sat Sri Akal, Gizza,

I am happy that you accept that the section I add is worthy of consideration. I will try and deal with all the point that you make under separate headings:

Ancient Indian History: I did not touch on ancient Indian history in this connection as I did not have this knowledge – the main section of my addition started with this: "Guru Nanak was born in northern India in 1469. Having witnessed the appalling situation created by the Islamic invaders from the 1200 AD and especially the Mughal invaders from about 1526 AD [1], he began his mission to re-focus the minds of the people to perform righteous deeds, remember God and tread on a spiritual path" So basically the history started from about 1200 AD and I did not cover previous period. I think that this period does need to be covered but I will leave that to someone else to do or I may do it myself at a later date. If you have knowledge of this history then you should also add this to the article.

"More needs to be added – not removed" Just because I have inserted 3 large sections on the Sikh Guru's contribution to the rights of women, it does not mean that you should remove them just because other have not added these other sections. You should add the other history or ask for others to add it to the article. You cannot wait to add all these things together – it will never happen – we need to make a start now. When I have added this section, someone will come along and "balance" the article by adding the previous and recent history – that's how most article grow!

You say: "Having three big paragraphs on just Guru Nanak in the Reforms and Equal right section is too much in my opinion" Don't you think that this reform was important to the present history of India. I believe that due to Guru Nanak's contribution, the attitude of Indian men changed – Study and observe the history of the treatment of women in India since about 1500. The Guru spoke vigorously against discrimination against women – When women came to see the Gurus with purdah, the Gurus refused to see them – many passages in the SGGS refer to the wrongs of purdah, sati; of discrimination; dowry; etc.

If you think that the claim that "Guru Nanak was probably the first religious leader in the world whose message is recorded in writing to have granted women equal status with man in all aspects of life" is wrong all you need to do is find someone who said something this before 1500 and then change this statement. I have given the proof from the SGGS, you need to do the same and find this proof and the line can then be amended. Have a look at Women's_rights#Notable_women.E2.80.99s_rights_activists and you will see that the entry for Guru Nanak is at the top. If you find others then just change this line or add your line before this one.

"Complete respect for other but message has to be clear" I do respect all faiths but I do not support all the actions of the followers. A Muslim women is free to practice purdah and it is a Sikhs duty to protect this right just like Guru Tegh Bahadar gave his life to protect the Kashmiri Pandits. But that does not mean that a Sikh can preach or even support this practise within Sikhism. Further, as a Sikh, I am required to say that I do not accept the practise of Purdah and that it is a ritual which is not acceptable to a Sikhism. However, as Sikhs we will not force or even preach this view to the other faiths but we can inform them, if asked that, as Sikhs we are against this practise. If this practice is written within the text of their religion, then we are barred from criticising it as the SGGS say "Do not say that the Vedas & Katabas (Bible, Torah, Koran, etc) are false, those who do not contemplate them are false." (SGGS page 1350)

"Pro-women Hinduism"

I do not understand why you have not added these sections to this article or at least to the Women in Hinduism article – This does not explain the pro-women stand in any detail. This article is incoherent and there is no explanation why Hinduism appears to support things like sati, purdah, dowry, etc and as you say at some stage of history, Hinduism was a pro-women religion. When did it change and why? You need to research this. Are Hindu women treated equally now? All this needs to be dealt with.

"Arrangement of Article"

As the article grows and exceeds 32k, the separate sections will then have to be allocated independent pages with just a summary on this page and a link to the new independent page. In this manner we can build a comprehensive resource of all the important issues and view that are connected with this subject matter.

"Conclusion"

I think you need to get the guys on the Hinduism portal to get on their bikes and get these articles sorted out. I would recommend that you support the Sikhism articles as they show how the Asian continent has produced these marvellous thinkers. Guru Nanak is an Indian first and then a Sikh, and all that I have said can be verified and is historical fact which is available from multiple sources on the net.

I have reverted the article to my original change and I propose to write more on the other points that you have raised as soon as I have learnt a bit more about the ancient history. I have paper copies of Srimad Bhagavatam (13 Volumes), Bhagavad Gita as it is (2 Volumes) and Krsna (1 Volume) – I wonder if you could point me to the sections that I should be looking at as this is a huge amount of holy scripture or refer me to online version, I will be much obliged. --Hari Singh 05:02, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
