Swami Nigamananda has obtained Siddhi (perfection) in four different Sadhanas, like Tantra, Gyan, Yoga and Prema. After churning the sea of Sadhana and delving deep into various scriptures, He had extracted nectar from it, which He presented to the world in the form of five books, namely, BRAHAMCHARYA SADHANA, YOGI GURU, GYANI GURU, TANTRIKA GURU and PREMIKA GURU. These books have been presented to and accepted by the British Museum as rare gems of information on Hindu religion. The Secretary of this august institution had offered rich tributes to the author for His endeavours. The seeker of any faith will stand to benefit from them. The principles laid down in these books, if practiced carefully, will lead a man to definite success in spiritual pursuit.

Dcmpuri (talk) 08:41, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for update. Now onwards I will use only one account i.e. Dcmpuri
I assume that, since you set up this account most recently, this is the one you want to use.
I have removed the copy of the article from your user page. That is not what your user page is intended for - it is meant for you to say a little about yourself as a Wikipedia contributor, if you wish, to help communication with other contributors. Also, because you pasted a new copy of the article there, all the contribution history was lost, and the license terms require that, if the article is posted in the encyclopedia again, the whole history is preserved so as to give attribution to all the contributors.
So instead, I have moved the deleted article, complete with history, into a user sub-page at User:Dcmpuri/Swami Nigamananda where you can work on it.
You edited the closed deletion debate to say that you had a new source; certainly you can add that to the draft article, but don't edit the debate again - it is closed now. Don't worry about the title of the article for them moment; if it is accepted we can decide what the title should be.
You have asked me, as closing administrator of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Swami Nigamananda, to reconsider my decision. No, I will not do that, because the debate was quite clear. If you want the article restored, you will have to take it to WP:Deletion review, but I suggest you do not do that immediately; it is more likely to be accepted if it is improved, and you can provide a link to the improved version. I will try to find advice for you. The two most important points I see are:
- the tone of the article. It is apparent that it is written by a follower with a deep admiration for Swami Nigamananda, but that is not appropriate for an encyclopedia article: one of Wikipedia's fundamental policies is WP:Neutral point of view. As DGG advised you earlier, an article should describe but not praise or advocate.
- Nothing is gained, from the point of view of notability, by piling up references to his works and those of his followers: the important references are those that show he was considered an important and significant figure by people who were not his disciples.
Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:40, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- As an example of an article written in a more neutral tone, look at Swaminarayan. JohnCD (talk) 21:58, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Dcmpuri (talk) 08:51, 15 March 2011 (UTC) Thanks for your sincere advise, which I will obey. Now I will use User:Dcmpuri/Swami Nigamananda and work on this.
Thanks again for a valuable regards for me
Offering help on your Swami Nigamananda article
[edit]Greetings, I've helped convert several overly-partisan religious and cultural articles in the past, successfully, and if you're interested I'm willing to help you attempt to improve this article. I've take a look at your situation and believe that an article can be produced, but it will differ greatly from your current article, and be a near-complete re-write. If interested, just reply to me here on this page, and we'll see what we can do. MatthewVanitas (talk) 00:01, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

How to format pictures - aside from that, please pause in adding material for a moment
[edit]Greetings, two things: info on how to format pictures, and also please hold off adding new material until I can provide some feedback on the material you added today. Long/short, the material you added is the type that is pushing the article further from publication rather than closer. Please do not take this personally, I will explain in-depth tonight or tomorrow, and we'll be able to move forward from there.
For images, here's how an image is coded: [[File:Guru Dham Kutabpur.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Swami Nigamananda's birthplace of Kutabpur]]
The first part is the file name, then insert a "pipe", the symbol "|". Then type "right" or "left". Then the pixel size you want the image displayed at, "200px", etc. "Thumb" means "clickable thumbnail", that is, an image that can enlarge if you click it. The last portion is the caption, which will automatically appear under the image.
While we are pausing on this article, I strongly recommend that you read some other biography articles to get a feel for both their structure, footnoting, and the usage of neutral, dispassionate descriptions. It is fine to say "Abraham Lincoln was born in Illinois, and served as president of the United States". It is not Wikipedia to say "He was man of tremendous compassion and distinction." The goal is to present merely facts, and leave all opinions to the reader. The opinions of notable others may be presented as facts (the fact that it was said, not the "fact" that it is true). So "President Eisenhower cited Abraham Lincoln as his greatest hero and role model" is fine, but "Abraham Lincoln was a hero and example for all peoples of the world" is not.
Do you follow the difference above, and grasp what must be done to render Swami N.'s article in the most neutral manner possible, leaving it for the reader to form his own opinions based on undeniable facts? Again, strongly recommend that you read some other high-profile biography articles of religious or social leaders to understand how the format works. MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:04, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Forgive delay, Swami Nigamananda published
[edit]Forgive the delay; between work, life, and holding the fort at "Request for Feedback" I've just been swamped. The article has reached the point where Notability is indubitably established, and though some cleanup is needed I see no reason to refrain from publishing, under the expectation other editors will, over time, continue to improve the article. Do not take the "maintenance tags" at the top personally; it is to be expected that articles need to be polished over time. For your part, I would step back from the article at this point and let the community take its course. You might do a little copyediting, as there are places where spaces between words are missing, where footnotes are not placed after punctuation marks (which makes the page look neater), etc. And the "Further reading" section is a bit oddly formatted; perhaps you could look at some major articles to get a feel for how to smooth out the format of that one section? Minor copyediting aside, I would leave the article to be refined by other editors. If you want furhter feedback, I would suggest introducing yourself and your article at WP:WikiProject India and WP:WikiProject Hinduism to solicit further aid in polishing and smoothing.
For your part, do you plan to write any other Wikipedia articles? If so, I would strongly suggest that you take a temporary break from writing about issues of personal import (such as religious groups you are associated with), and consider branching out to try a few further topics that you could approach from a more neutral stance. This could be a great practice for you in improving your ability to write in a neutral voice, and in applying the very strong research and layout skills you've gained in this experience. If you like, I could go find a few topics which need covering and see if any of them appeal to you; perhaps you could give me some very general topics (food, architecture, famous botanists) etc. and I could suggest some topics you could try your hand at. I do think that branching outside of one own's experience can be a great educational experience in writing.
I do hope you will stay and continue to write, but do again caution that it is very hard to write neutrally on religious/political topics in which you are emotionally involved. But I congratulate you on the excellent skills you've acquired, and look forward to seeing how the process of "peer review" will continue to hone and refine the article into a neutral and informative introduction to the life of Nigamananda. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:43, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Some easy fixes: down where you list his works, you'll want to remove the bolding of editions/titles, etc. Just italicise the titles and leave the rest plain text. You also have a bunch of links to .pdf documents of his works, which just appear as a little link box, but should be spelled-out as full citations. So just a little cleanup you can do to make the article flow smoother. MatthewVanitas (talk) 13:59, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Vanitas
I will take care all points as suggested by you. Little cleanup is required. But I will seek your guidance from time to time as earlier.
As suggested I become a member for WP:WikiProject India and WP:WikiProject Hinduism. I will update you soon my furhter proceeings. Yes, I wish to write my next article on a Dharmic Writer,Durga Charan Mohanty of Orissa, who was a direct disciple of Swami Nigamananda. But I would like to go ahead after taking a short break and after cleaning Swami Nigamananda article properly. Kindly suggest further.
- Now this article Swami Nigamananda got a place in Wiki due to your sincere effort and kind advice. I pray for your future prosperity and developments.
Dcmpuri (talk) 15:55, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Rectification done as per your guidance
[edit]Dear MatthewVanitas. Kindly note the following your queries have been rectified.
- as there are places where spaces between words are missing, corrected
- where footnotes are not placed after punctuation marks, corrected
- Further reading" section is a bit oddly formatted, formatted
- Remove the bolding of editions/titles, etc, done
- I also removed "promotional" words from the article
Pls check and revert back for any missing.
Dcmpuri (talk) 13:14, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Looks better overall, nice work. I'm just trying to get someone other than myself to come and weigh in with feedback in order to bring a variety of perspectives to the article. You're published, the article is up, so everything else is just fine tuning. If you're curious as to readership, this website tracks the number of hits by day: http://stats.grok.se/en/201105/Swami%20Nigamananda . Note that you yourself going to the site counts as a hit if you reload, but otherwise these hits should indicate other people coming in.
- One thing you can do to improve the article's "discoverability" would be to add links to your article from other articles. The trick is not do do this awkawardly; you don't want to be uncomfortably forcing mentions of Nigamananda in places they don't belong. But look at various articles you wikilinked to and see if maybe a mention of him can be added to any articles about his region, sect, etc. Also check for any "List of" articles that may apply to him. I would also suggest you post a request for feedback at WP:WikiProject Hinduism as well.
- Nice work, you've come a long way! MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:55, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Acknowledgement
[edit]Dear MatthewVanitas
Thanks a lot for your nice suggestion. I will take care all points as suggested by you. Really I am impressed to see, Wikipedia article traffic statistics. Amazing …. This could be possible due to your sincere guidance and effort towards the article, Swami Nigamananda. The blessings of this guru will remain with you for all the times. I acknowledge that, you and your work for Wikipedia.org, is an "Outstanding". I have learned so many things from you and I cannot say Good Bye to you. Hence I request you please drop only a "word" for me, when I ask for a help. Also request you kindly help me in finding such a guy like you, who can help me to improve this article more. I already have posted my query at sites like WP:WikiProject India and WP:WikiProject Hinduism.
After re-refine the article, I will try to hide the 2nd banner (peacock) within a week. Thanks a lot. Dcmpuri (talk) 13:51, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- Not a problem, glad to help. Two suggestions:
- On removing the peacock banner, it would be best, if someone else does not already provide it, to get someone else to remove it so that it is clear you have a neutral editor's agreement. If you don't get as much feedback as you want, try posting (to whatever boards) a very specific feedback request just for a "peacock check". That way someone can just briefly peruse the article for tone and then agree or disagree with you.
- Both by naming conventions and also ease of finding his article, I recommend you retitle to simply Nigamananda. He is indeed a swami, but pages are generally titled by name, and I think it would make for a stronger title to focus on his guru name. I note to that many of the more serious academic works refer to him solely by that one name, so that's a good precedent. Again, it's great that you've come to appreciate the benefits of having neutral/objective info on a WP page, and then more emotional/subjective phrasing on non-WP pages belonging to devotees. That way people can approach the issue from several different directions to inform their conclusions.
- Nice work, do you have plans to write any further articles? Again, do recall sourcing is always the first thing. Rather than write an article and then try to source it, it is best to review all the sources you can, and then write as though the available sources are the only info you know. That way you will be perfectly footnoted and your positions unassailable.
- Drop me a line if you need anything later. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:12, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
- As mentioned before, if you want to build up your writing abilities, I would strongly suggest you try writing a few short articles on subjects you are uninvolved with, in order to get a feel for objective writing. I suggest you check out Wikipedia:Requested pages and find something of interest and new to you, perhaps a certain style of African music, or an architect from Chile, and write a quick article on that subject using GoogleBooks citations. I'd be happy to review said articles for you, and I think you would learn a lot about editing by reaching outside your "comfort zone", plus it'd be a chance to learn something totally new! MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:27, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi MatthewVanitas,
Sorry for delay reply !
1) Almost all I have removed the "promotional" part from the article. Will wait for few days, if someone could help from WP:WikiProject India and WP:WikiProject Hinduism source.
2) Very good Idea for re-title to "Nigamananda". Please guide, how could I go ahead for same ?
In due course, I wish to write more articles, I will start with short as suggested by you.
Thanks for guidance Dcmpuri (talk) 13:24, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Removed "Promotional" Words from the Article
[edit]Dear MatthewVanitas
Kindly guide me, how I will go ahead to re-name of the title "Swami Nigamananda" to simply "Nigamananda", which would be a stronger title.
I have checked thoroughly the article Swami Nigamananda and removed all "promotional" words pertaining to the article completely.
My request to Editors, kindly allow me to hide the "peacock" banner.

MakeRef reference generator
[edit]Namaste, have a look at http://toolserver.org/~magnus/makeref.php if you do not already know it. With this tool you can create nice inline citations, example.:
<ref> {{cite web | url = http://www.jantareview.com/Kalna/biz_220119/Nigamananda-High-School-Schools | title = Nigamananda High School / Schools in Kalna / India / reviews, map, events, deals & offers, discussion forum | accessdate = 2011-06-08 | publisher = JantaReview}}</ref>
instead of just <ref>[http://www.jantareview.com/Kalna/biz_220119/Nigamananda-High-School-Schools Nigamananda High School]</ref>
Notice that MakeRef gives you the opportunity to include a quote, and this obviously is very useful.
The above example is from your recent edit in Nigamananda, Education re Nigamananda High School. In the same edit you have included <ref>[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalna,_India#Education Nigamananda High School] ''(See Education Section)'' </ref> This you can not do, and I know MatthewVanitas has already told you so on the Nigamananda talk page, it creates circular sourcing. I will remove the citation. Will you please have a good read on WP:V.
MarB4 •ɯɒɹ• 11:33, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Namaskar! Thanks for providing such a wonderful tool. I will make use of it. Thanks for guidance, in future I will take care for "circular sourcing". Dcmpuri (talk) 11:48, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Edit summaries
[edit]Namaste again,
When you edit a page there is a small text entry field, labeled Edit summary, located under the main edit box and above the Save page button. Edit summaries are displayed in lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists), and at the top of diff pages.
It is good practice to fill in the Edit summary field, or add to it in the case of section editing, as this helps others to understand the intention of your edit. To avoid accidentally leaving edit summaries blank, you can select "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" on the Editing tab of your user preferences.
You can read more on WP:ES and you have a nice list of edit summary abbreviations on WP:ESL.

- Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Nigamananda. Did you select "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" on the Editing tab of your user preferences? If not, I suggest you do so, and I suggest you from now on always fill in the Edit summary field, it would be greatly appreciated by your fellow Wikipedians. Thank you. - P.S. If you reply to this message notice in the edit window how my two lines are each preceded by colon (:). This often makes it much easier to read a dialogue between two or more people, look at WP:INDENT. Guess what 2 colons (::) at the beginning of a line does. :-)

- Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Nigamananda. There is a Manual of Style, edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Please read my comment on Talk:Nigamananda regarding year numbering system and months. If you do not wish to correct according to MOS, please leave a message saying so on Talk:Nigamananda. Thank you. MarB4 •ɯɒɹ• 08:57, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Dear MarB4
- Sorry ! Really I did not selected "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" in user preference. Now it is ok. You could see now my recent history is fully with Edit Summaries.

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
[edit]Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Reverting my edits in Odisha Sahitya Academy
[edit]Hi, you have reverted my edit in the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award page. May I ask on what basis you have done that? The official languages of the Government of Odisha are Odia and English and NOT Hindi which clearly means anything related the Government of Odisha would not have a Hindi/Devanagari transliteration. So I removed the Devanagari transliteration. You should not be reverting one's edit without no reason and mentioning the reason for reverting. This is a very unfortunate. --Psubhashish (talk) 04:13, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
