Information icon Hello, Douggollan. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Jet card, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.  Velella  Velella Talk   19:58, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (I was specifically asked to create the page by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Velella so any conflicts I had in adding to the Jet Card page could be reviewed -- In fact Valella posted a "thank you" for creating it -) --Douggollan (talk) 05:26, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. As Velella has asked, you should use your user page to declare any conflicts of interest - this can be most easily done using the Template:UserboxCOI. However, including a whole bunch of links to other websites about the company or your own work comes across as self-promotion which is not allowed. See WP:UPYES and WP:UPNOT for what you may and may not have on your user page. Thanks, Melcous (talk) 05:33, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (I thought I made the changes asked including putting the COI for "jet card" at the top of the page and also taking out links from websites where I might have a conflict) --Douggollan (talk) 17:28, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Bombardier Aerospace, you may be blocked from editing. BilCat (talk) 00:50, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, the only other link is to a pay wall site -- I linked to a free news site that includes the full filing.

A site that you write for. In addition, it's really not noteworthy information, but you can argue for it's inclusion on the article's talk page, with reliable sources. - BilCat (talk) 00:59, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - let me know what I did wrong -- JetSuite is a major private aviation company that made a big change to its program.

You may mean well, but the fact that every edit you've done cites a website that you own is a conflict of interest. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:44, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gotcha -- i'll find other sources in the future. Thanks - right now this update hasn't been reported anywhere else but as soon as it is i will update it. I do want to be helpful, so thanks.

Request reason:

I hope I am placing this in the correct area. I am a journalist recognized expert on private jet travel, particularly jet cards and charter, including the companies that provide this service. I have been referenced by NBC News, CNBC< The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, The Miami Herald, Dallas Morning News, and others as an expert. I find Wikipedia invaluable. Any links I have placed are significant news related to the topic. I am also a contributor to Forbes.com specifically for private aviation. It's hardly promotion - but direct links to news articles on the subject. At the same time, I notice links to SherpaReport which is a spam, lead-generation site that collects visitor data and sells it as sales lead to jet companies. I never touch anyone else's links but am surprised you are saying I am advertising? Frankly, there doesn't seem to be anyone else who regularly pays attention to these Wiki pages. Would you prefer the info not be updated? I really am at a loss? Thanks for your consideration. Douggollan (talk) 1:10 pm, 28 August 2020, Friday (12 days ago) (UTC−4)

Accept reason:

Someone else will take a look but you were warned three years ago "avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM)" and warned by two other users since, but carried on regardless. I appreciate that you were acting in good faith but your edits here have almost exclusively been to add links to a site you run which is considering spamming. Additionally, it appears that you've paid DavidWilliamH to create Doug Gollan and Private Jet Card Comparisons. SmartSE (talk) 17:57, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I don't know a David Williams, at least in regards to what you are mentioning. I can tell you some of the information on the Doug Gollan wiki is wrong, but I didn't touch it as I would think would be a conflict of interest. I am quite well known in the private aviation segment, at least on the charter, fractional and jet card market. I've been referenced quite a bit for my coverage of the lawsuits and problems at Jet Smarter which was using a bunch of celebs to promote themselves. I've also been referenced for my coverage of private aviation companies receiving government subsidies. On my site - I DON'T accept any advertising from private aviation companies as it would be a conflict of interest. All of my content is free. My only revenue comes from people who buy subscriptions to a buyer's guide that compares programs, and I don't sell subscriber data - 100% privacy protection - and I don't accept any payments or referral fees from jet companies - It's purely unbiased data. I also don't charge the jet companies to be included - they just have to provide the data. According to Wordpress, this year I've posted 263 articles and 175,000 words, an average of over 600 words per post - so nothing spammy but in-depth reports - and all available for free. I've also written 47 articles so far in 2020 for Forbes.com. I suppose I can wait for somebody else to pick up on what I've reported and then update the Wikis with those links? Anyway, I use Wikipedia often for my own research on non-related topics, so I truly appreciate and I hope I can be helpful in keeping the information where I am informed up to date.

{{unblock|reason=Your reason here [[User:Douggollan|Douggollan]] ([[User talk:Douggollan#top|talk]]) 14:23, 1 September 2020 (UTC)}} I'm not sure if this is in the right place - but I would ask/challenge finding alternate links to the material I've posted that were on or before the date posted. I am a journalist who regularly breaks news about private aviation. Some of the material - as it is quite specialized - is not regularly reported on by other media. However, I have been able to keep these specific private aviation Wikis updated. Thanks again.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Douggollan (talkcontribs) 15:24, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Apologies for the delay. The problem is that you were warned not to link to your own site, but carried on. As you admit, you make money from the site, so there is a benefit to there being links from Wikipedia which could drive readers to your site. That's not to say that your site is spammy, but your actions here have been like a spammer, although I concede this may not have been your intention. If information only exists on your site, then it probably isn't worthy of including here anyway - we don't aim to include every last possible piece of information about companies. You have already requested someone else review the block I made, but nobody has commented either way yet. If you agree to not link to your own site and only use other websites (preferably clearly reliable sources, such as mainstream news websites) then I'd be happy to unblock you. SmartSE (talk) 18:35, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smartse - That's fine - agreed. I understand what you are saying about not including every last piece of information, so that makes sense. The 'world' of jet cards in a niche within the niche of business aviation and private jets so it's just really not the primary focus of broader trade publications, hence why I would cover news about major companies that already have pages but it might not get picked up - at least right away - in other media. I look forward to being able to contribute based on your stated guidelines. Again, I find Wikipedia a great resource and use it regularly, hence my goal of wanting to improve the pages where I am aware of changes. By the way, as I mentioned - and you pointed out - I do get revenue from paid subscriptions, so that is a benefit. It really never occurred to me about that. And in fact, I just went back to my Google analytics which tracks the source of sales and I guess the good news is that I haven't generated a single sale from any one who has visited via Wikipedia. Anyway, appreciate your openness. Thanks for your work on the site as well. I imagine it must not be easy. Douggollan (talk) 4 September 2020

Sorry I missed your reply until now. Thank you for your understanding and if you have any questions about what sources should or shouldn't be included, just let me know. I will unblock you in a moment. SmartSE (talk) 16:22, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smartse, so the JetSuite page needs to be updated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JetSuite). As part of its bankruptcy, all of the Phenom 300s have been returned and just the 3 Phenom 100s remain. I've reported on it based on court documents which I received by email but aren't online. I looked to see if other coverage mentions the fleet change so I can site them in updating the Fleet grid on their wiki, but couldn't find any. In other words, the info on the wiki about their fleet is out of date. Can I update it without citing a reference, or just not bother? Thanks SmartSE (talk)

I would say that it should probably just be removed. Personally, I don't see the need for us to try and keep details of their fleet up to date - that's much better dealt with by themselves on their own website. (I saw your note partly by chance, it is better to use {{ping|Smartse}} and you sign posts using ~~~~). SmartSE (talk) 16:12, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
