About character accents in GaoGaiGar entries...

[edit]

I suppose what's written on the screen goes, but I don't think 楊 can be romanized to anything but Yáng. It's Cantonese spelling is "joeng4", so that doesn't help.[1]. I really don't know what they were intending. I don't have the books you do (there are so many books out there!), so you probably know best. I saw all the episodes in Japan, but that was years ago. If you ever want to add the voice actors, they are listed on the Japanese language wiki. Evan1975 09:38, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Yangs

[edit]

There is a mention of Long-Li here [2] on Japanese Wikipedia. (Last entry for GGG.) In chinese, Yan, Yang, and Yong are all very different things (not to mention the accent/tone marks) Evan1975 03:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Square Co.

[edit]

Heh. I am amazed that someone else took an interest. I've found some excellent sources for the history of Square (most notably here), and I'm still busy overhauling the article. It's been a while, so now that I more strictly adhere to Wikipedia's guidelines I plan on overhauling my overhaul. :) As for the Aliens game, I actually did create an article for it (Aliens (Square computer game)). If you could help me with the Square Co. page that would be great - I'd love to work on a collaborative project! EDIT: I posted part of what I've been working on in my sandbox. That section badly needs to be rewritten though in light of new information. --Tristam 06:30, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! Thanks a million! I'd love to have such a knowledgeable member as duckroll aboard. :) --Tristam 14:57, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool info.! Thanks! I knew a bit of that stuff, but what I didn't know was really interesting. Imagine being impressed with a commercial for that crappy shooter King's Knight! Personally, I think it's time Square's dark past comes to light before it gets sucked up by time. I always wonder where people think Square's history starts - probably the first Final Fantasy. I dunno about hiring a translator. If you checked out my sandbox link and saw the early history section I was working on, you'll see a pic of Sakaguchi and co. taken from a magazine. I actually paid a translator to translate the article of that magazine that featured Square, but I'm flat broke now. Perhaps I'll just wait for duckroll to translate the site contents. It'd be even better if he signed up with Wikipedia, because I'm sure his brain is loaded with Square history trivia. :-) --Tristam 00:24, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Romanization of Eiji Nakata's name

[edit]

Hi, I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to mention, that per WP:MOS-JA, Wikipedia uses revised Hepburn romanization, via which 中田栄治 is romanized as Nakata Eiji - this is the preferred method of romanization followed by numerous scholars and sources. "Nakada" is merely another method of romanization, which is used extremely rarely, however, this system is not supposed to be used in Wikipedia: as mentioned by WP:MOS-JA: "People who care about other romanization systems are knowledgeable enough to look after themselves." For example, see the similar articles: Japanese name, Nakata, etc. Ganryuu (talk) 12:50, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, whether or not one or two particular websites romanizes his last name as "Nakada" is not really of much concern or significance; it's just another system of romanizing the name. Certain websites might prefer another method of romanization, but as I mentioned earlier, Wikipedia uses a system of the revised Hepburn romanization (expanded further here: WP:MOS-JA), via which is actual name 中田栄治 is romanized as Nakata Eiji. Ganryuu (talk) 20:31, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid you are mixing up romanization rules of particular fictional characters and that of actual human beings - there is a major difference between the two; please read WP:MOS-JA: Wikipedia uses the version of Revised Hepburn romanisation described below because it is generally accepted by scholars and it gives a fair indication of Japanese pronunciation to the intended audience of English speakers. People who care about other romanization systems are knowledgeable enough to look after themselves - this is extremely clear. Whereas a fictional character has been created by a particular individual or company, which owns its copyright - an actual, living person is an entirely different matter. You have no evidence whatsoever to prove whether or not Nakata Eiji prefers a particular format, and what you are trying to bring up are unfortunately nothing more than conjecture not supported by actual facts, please read WP:MOS-JA carefully. Ganryuu (talk) 05:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I hope you're doing well. By the way, I just wanted to tell you, in the staff/credits booklet of the Code Geass Original Soundtrack, his name has been romanized as Eiji Nakata (in the original staff section), so indeed, his name has indeed been romanized as Nakata in official Sunrise products, and I'm sure there are numerous other examples like this too. The strange topic of Korean animation...

[edit]

Hi, E. Megas. Thanks for the comment and the pointers for more information on Korean animation. I'm busy with other projects at the moment, but I'll keep those in mind when I get back onto this topic. If you're interested in the subject, here is a good Japanese site for research. As far as the Korea/Japan rivalry goes... it can get to be quite childish on both sides, and is always irritating to those of us who love both countries, and have family ties to both, but who come from neither one... But it doesn't look like it'll cease any time soon, so we just have to make do. Happy editing. Rizzleboffin 22:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:VOTOMSLogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:VOTOMSLogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia 00:23, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:TaizoHori MrDriller.gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:TaizoHori MrDriller.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:01, 29 August 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:01, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:CodeGEASSLogo.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:CodeGEASSLogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:49, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
