Howland's U-21 caps
The Irish FA bio page, such as it is, does say 3 caps, but that's also what it said when accessed in January 2008. He's played one game since then, but whoever changed the article to 4 didn't bother adding a source for the 4th, which I've now done and added a hidden note. Though this says "half a dozen" caps... If the Irish FA kept all their webpages up-to-date and accurate, it'd help, but then the English FA with all their money don't either :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Football infoboxes
Hi, have expanded a few of the stubs you created and noticed that you're putting names into the full name field which I'm assuming you don't know if it's their full name or not. If you know it for certain, then put it in with a reference if possible), but if not leave it out. Also you might want to have a look at some of the changes I made for future stubs. Always happy to expand stubs, particularly those where the players are now non-league as where they went after their league careers is interesting for me (even if not for soccerbase below the conference). Hi - I've edited the article as you appear to have confused him with his son, Raich Carter. Robert was never an international, although the Spartacus article was rather poorly written.

Port Vale graphs

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It isn't difficult to make these graphs; just a bit fiddly...
I use Open Office to make my graphs (much better graphing/drawing package than Excel) but you can certainly do it in Excel. The secret is to create a combination Line-Column graph. In Excel you click on the chart button then scroll down the list of Custom Types . The number of teams in the league each year are rendered in a grey column (with boarder = 0, spacing = 0) and the actual club performance is a line graph placed on top of these columns. BNP/NF election results
The pages British National Front election results and British National Party election results were deleted last summer. As someone who contributed to one or both of those pages, I thought you might be interested in supporting their recreation. The grounds for deletion were that they were unreferenced (correct, but easily put right); they were unencyclopaedic (??? - no reasons given) and that they violated BLP policy (ridiculous, but which, by implication, means that any page that names an election candidate should be deleted). The deletion debate is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/British National Party election results. No contributors to the pages were consulted.
I asked the admin who deleted the pages to reconsider, but he refused. I have belatedly requested a Deletion Review (see Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 February 1) to which you may wish to contribute. I eventually managed to obtain copies of the deleted articles and have now referenced the entire content. Thanks for your comments in the debate to overturn the BNP election results page. I recreated it and now find it has been nominated, on extremely spurious ground, for deletion again!! - I certainly won't give up until I have created an article for every Port Vale player who has played in the football league! Then I will go over any odd balls that played in the FA Cup/League Cup without making the league and create articles for them. Then I will google those who haven't done that either in case they did so for another club. Then I shall check through all the articles I didn't create to make sure they are up to scratch. I came across Alf Wood when I was looking up info to create an article on Charles Robson, who was one of Southampton's early managers. (See Charles Robson#Southampton St Mary's Football Club for the relevant content.) As it seems that Wood played 65 games for Burslem Port Vale, are you planning to create an article about him. - I guess John Forbes Nash, Jr. would be the guy most people would look for. I reckon John Nash should link to him and then have that page have a link back to the disambiguation page.

Hello again! I notice you created Ernest Perry (footballer) and added that he played for Bradford City. There is no player called Ernest Perry who ever played a first team game for Bradford City and suspected he may have played for Bradford Park Avenue instead. Can you clarify? The only Davies my reference has playing for Blackpool around that time is an S. Davies. He played three consecutive league matches and one FA Cup match in the club's 1912–13 season, all in the number 11 shirt. - Other than that he played for Vale under the shirt numbers 7 and 9, all the information I have is on the article.
- User:Fetler has written a good article about Chorley so I guess he might have info on past players.

James Baker (footballer born 1911)
Hi, I believe your source might be confusing the Port Vale player of this name with the Wolves player also named James Edward Baker (though known as Jack) and has concluded they are one and the same. The Wolves player however, was born in 1904 in Wales and never played for any of the other clubs mentioned in your article.
This is the only James Edward Baker that Wolves' records list as having played for the club; however, I suppose it's possible he may have been on the books there but never featured in the first team, however sharing the exact same name and playing era (pretty much; 1926-41) makes me suspicious. - Well, it says he was born in Wolverhampton. I guess he could have been signed up in his teens but failed to make the first team. Order of articles
Basically, no. Anything that'll stop me getting too bored with the process on any given day. The other day I got so bored it forced me into working on 1931 FA Cup Final, which was a good thing, because I shouldn't have neglected it. Started off working down by appearances, but kept coming to players who deserved a better article than the cut'n'paste basic, so there's a dozen or so hanging around half done waiting for inspiration. Then went on to all players on a random page number in Matthews' book. Or players beginning with M. Or player no # in my redlinks list. I think they are different people. My sum total of my information about the City Newton is that his full name is William Alfred Andrew Newton and he was born in Romiley. Joyce's book gives birth year 1911, but your birthdate is consistent with the register entry, as is Bestwood Village. Of the ones marked as Birmingham:
- David Brown: confirm he guested for Birmingham in 1918, and played League football for Dundee, Rangers, Stoke, Notts Cty, Darlo, Crewe, Barrow, known as Davie Brown
- Kenneth Faulkner: will be coming soon as Ken Faulkner
- Fred Gardner: was a Birmingham player whose only first-team football for the club was in the wartime leagues; he played league football for Newport as well as Cov, see [1]
- Henry Lane: will be coming soon as Harry Lane (footballer)

Happen to remember removing [[Category:Blackpool F.C. players]] from any articles in the last couple of days? There are currently 573 players in the category, but 574 linked players in List of Blackpool F.C. players. It's (relatively) easy to keep tabs on additions of the category to articles; not so when it's removed. I have looked up the first four on www.allfootballers.com:
- Eli Adams - not listed as he didn't play in Football League for Vale
- Lee Ashcroft - no mention of Stoke in list of clubs
- William Bradbury (footballer) was on the books of Stoke briefly between Fegg Hayes and Aberdare
- Bill Cope (footballer) - his namesake William Cope (footballer) played for both clubs.
I have edited the Bradbury article to reflect this.
As for the others:
- Frank Baker - was on the books of Port Vale in 1935-36, before joining Stoke
- Albert Boardman - was on the books of Vale in 1894-95, before joining Stoke
- David (Davy) Brodie - joined Vale after leaving Stoke in 1897
- Jackie Brown - no mention
- Ted (John Edward) Evans - joined Vale after leaving Bury in 1896. Played for Stoke 1891-1895
- Tommy Greaves - no mention
- Harry Mellor - on books of Vale 1896. Played for Stoke 1897-1900
- Bert Miller - no mention
- Ian Moores - listed as registered with Vale in the 1986-87 season
- Harry Sellars - on books of Vale as player in the 1937-38 season. Played for Stoke 1923-1935

Dennis Isherwood
I vaguely wondered whether they might be father and son. Although the dates are compatible, it seems unlikely that the son would have been born and brought up in Brierley Hill while the father was kicking round Cheshire/North Staffs. And my books don't mention the younger Isherwood having a footballing father, and they do tend to mention family members where such exist. Happened to notice in the article his full name was John Brian James, but in the infobox was John Brian Jones, and there's also a redirect from John Brian Jones. Hi - between us, we are gradually getting this article up to scratch. I'm rather busy at the moment and will be away over the weekend.
You might care to try to incorporate some of the content on his Leeds profile at [2] into the article. There is rather a large discrepancy in the transfer fee from Gillingham to Coventry - £75k per the article but only £18.5k per the website. Perhaps we should ask ChrisTheDude for his comments/input?

- Just to muddy the waters further, Roger Triggs' book "The Men Who Made Gillingham F.C." and the club's official centenary history book from 1993 both say £85,000!! I would suggest that leedsfans (which appears to be a fansite and therefore of dubious reliability) is simply completely wrong, as for the other sources £10k seems within the usual realms of discrepancy for such things - see Steve Bruce for cited examples of at least three different fees quoted for his move to Man U. Maybe it would be best to use a similar approach here - say "a fee of either £75k or £85k" or some such. Surprised your book omits DS79, he was there nearly two seasons, though I wouldn't expect Neil Brown to include all the brief stays with foreign and/or non-league clubs. My Matthews book has Newport/Altrincham/Morning Star HK/DS79/Stafford Rangers between Blues & Scunny, but no mention of Cape Town City, where's that supposed to come? Updated him, verifiability, not truth, and all that. 1984 is desperately unconvincing: a trial for Blackpool and playing for Stafford Rangers and Altrincham between getting a stuffing in the Eredivisie on 12 May and signing for Scunny in September... My book puts Stafford in the 82/83 season, but after DS'79; which is impossible unless he came home in the winter break and played for them then. Does Kent give date or season for Stafford? Moran
Moran played six games early on in the 1990/91 season, and then not at all for nearly six months, until mid-March 91, when he made sub appearances in three consecutive games, which were his last first-team games for the club. Mackay left in January 91, Macari joined in February. - The stats are all from Soccerbase. 1997-98 only listed games in which he scored. Not seeing 30 goals in 20 games as likely, I noticed the Lincoln City profile said "Geoff's goals helped the Shaymen regain their Football League status; his 30 from 40 games in 1997/98 seeing him end the season as the Conference's top scorer." I assumed they were league stats, perhaps a few of those games were in the FA Cup, or perhaps he did play 40 league games, just his FA Cup stats aren't mentioned anywhere.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi there, I saw this player listed as a former Wolves player. Wolves records detail a "George Bowen" having played for us before transferring to Burslem Port Vale in Summer 1904, which suggests this is the same player. It could be possible there was a Jack also on our books who didn't appear in the first team, and that there was a George who moved to Vale but didn't appear for their first team I guess.
What do you think? Do you have - know of anyone having - a copy of the pre-WW2 Football League Players' Records book that could establish whether both a Jack and George have played in the FL? Wolvesweb (talk) 12:49, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Another of my book reads: "a cautious approach was adopted for the 1904-05 season, with speedy left-winger Jack Bowen from Wolverhampton Wanderers, being the only non-local new player signed." Here's another. As to the fourth (or, I think, first), it's an interesting question. NIFG say 2 starts and 2 sub apps from 2007-2008, but I thought he came on in one of these two, which were in 2006. This club's name keeps coming up in articles about Port Vale and Stoke players from the 1890s, many of whom also played for Southampton. I am thinking of creating a (stub) article about the club. Do you know where their "ground" was? It's taken me ages to locate where Dresden is on the map - it appears to be at the junction of the A5035 (Belgrave Road) and the B5038 (Trentham Road). Is that right? I've only been to Stoke once (to visit Trentham Park) so my knowledge of the area is non-existent.

History of Stoke
Hi, some months ago you said it was a shame that no one had written an article on the history of Stoke (O-T not U-T). Well I've started one and I'd value your opinion on it. It's about two-thirds finished and what's left is probably the most difficult bit :) i.e. the final successful proposal for federation and the wrangle about You can find it here. One thing I'm not sure about is a title, you can see what I'm using at the moment but it doesn't seem a bit long winded but then I'm not convinced that the History of S-O-T is specific enough.
