Howland's U-21 caps

The Irish FA bio page, such as it is, does say 3 caps, but that's also what it said when accessed in January 2008. He's played one game since then, but whoever changed the article to 4 didn't bother adding a source for the 4th, which I've now done and added a hidden note. Though this says "half a dozen" caps... If the Irish FA kept all their webpages up-to-date and accurate, it'd help, but then the English FA with all their money don't either :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Alright then!--EchetusXe (talk) 12:56, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Football infoboxes

Hi, have expanded a few of the stubs you created and noticed that you're putting names into the full name field which I'm assuming you don't know if it's their full name or not. If you know it for certain, then put it in with a reference if possible), but if not leave it out. Also you might want to have a look at some of the changes I made for future stubs. Always happy to expand stubs, particularly those where the players are now non-league as where they went after their league careers is interesting for me (even if not for soccerbase below the conference). WikiGull (talk) 18:22, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Nice to see interest and work going into non-league players. I was interested to read what happened to Chris Cornes, yes.--EchetusXe (talk) 18:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi - I've edited the article as you appear to have confused him with his son, Raich Carter. Robert was never an international, although the Spartacus article was rather poorly written.

Incidentally, all my reference books refer to him as "Bob" rather than "Robert". When I have more time, I will expand the article and probably move it to Bob Carter (footballer born 1881). Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:34, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, great to hear. I thought it was a bit odd how an England international with 13 caps had no article.--EchetusXe (talk) 10:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Port Vale graphs

EchetusXe,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It isn't difficult to make these graphs; just a bit fiddly...

I use Open Office to make my graphs (much better graphing/drawing package than Excel) but you can certainly do it in Excel. The secret is to create a combination Line-Column graph. In Excel you click on the chart button then scroll down the list of Custom Types . The number of teams in the league each year are rendered in a grey column (with boarder = 0, spacing = 0) and the actual club performance is a line graph placed on top of these columns. I have an example in excel that I can send you by email - ping me on payo2000@gmail.com and I'll send it to you.--Payo (talk) 08:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

BNP/NF election results

The pages British National Front election results and British National Party election results were deleted last summer. As someone who contributed to one or both of those pages, I thought you might be interested in supporting their recreation. The grounds for deletion were that they were unreferenced (correct, but easily put right); they were unencyclopaedic (??? - no reasons given) and that they violated BLP policy (ridiculous, but which, by implication, means that any page that names an election candidate should be deleted). The deletion debate is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/British National Party election results. No contributors to the pages were consulted.

I asked the admin who deleted the pages to reconsider, but he refused. I have belatedly requested a Deletion Review (see Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 February 1) to which you may wish to contribute. I eventually managed to obtain copies of the deleted articles and have now referenced the entire content. You can see them at User:Emeraude/British National Front election results and User:Emeraude/British National Front election results. Emeraude (talk) 11:15, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't remember editing it but ok.--EchetusXe (talk) 14:18, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

BNP results - again

Thanks for your comments in the debate to overturn the BNP election results page. I recreated it and now find it has been nominated, on extremely spurious ground, for deletion again!! You might want to contribute at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/British National Party election results (2nd nomination). Emeraude (talk) 22:41, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

lol, how ridiculous, you can count on me.--EchetusXe (talk) 23:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I have removed the speedy deletion notice- you're welcome to create an article at that title, but there's no reason to delete the redirect- just edit the redirect page and add your article. Your may want to make use of the template {{for}} so that users looking for the article the page originally redirected to can still find their way to it. J Milburn (talk) 21:48, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, its more effort but I'll take your advice.--EchetusXe (talk) 23:16, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Port Vale players and barnstar

The Running Man Barnstar
Wow, I'm amazed at the number of new biographies, and not just stubs, but good quality biographies which you've produced on Port Vale players this weekend. Top work. Peanut4 (talk) 20:42, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow! Thank you so much! This feels like the Oscars, heh.
tbh, I looked at the new articles page and thought 'wow I have done a lot of articles today!' lol.
I certainly won't give up until I have created an article for every Port Vale player who has played in the football league! Then I will go over any odd balls that played in the FA Cup/League Cup without making the league and create articles for them. Then I will google those who haven't done that either in case they did so for another club. Then I shall check through all the articles I didn't create to make sure they are up to scratch. Then I shall rest!--EchetusXe (talk) 20:48, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Best of luck with creating all the rest. I've got myself a monster list on one of my subpages to get through. Thankfully, I've got another editor who does them too.
As for the play-offs, I'm hoping we won't need them. It's going to be a tough last few weeks to come as high as possible. Good luck yourself with the rest of the season. Peanut4 (talk) 21:04, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Thnx, but were going nowhere for awhile lol.--EchetusXe (talk) 21:08, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
I hope you're right but if I was a fan of any League Two team, I wouldn't take anything for granted any more. Peanut4 (talk) 21:22, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Jack Sykes

Thanks for spotting the typo, comes of leaving a three-day gap between copy-pasting the article structure and finishing off the details. Peter Shearer, by the way, not Alan :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 23:24, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

heh, Peter Shearer was it? I'll let you off then :)--EchetusXe (talk) 23:28, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, sorry to bother you. I see that you have been creating articles on Port Vale players. I came across Alf Wood when I was looking up info to create an article on Charles Robson, who was one of Southampton's early managers. (See Charles Robson#Southampton St Mary's Football Club for the relevant content.) As it seems that Wood played 65 games for Burslem Port Vale, are you planning to create an article about him. If so, I'll add the Robson info when you've done it. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:06, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Alf Wood. It annoyed me checking the book for this guy because I realized that I missed him off the list. So I should have already created an article for him.
I wonder how many other players I have missed out? I will have to check once I finish the <50 league appearances list. Thanks for alerting me to this.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:26, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

How spooky is that! I'll add some details about his later career over the weekend. As there are at least 4 other Alf Woods who played football, I may move the article to include his year of birth in the title. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:37, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

OK cool.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:39, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

John Nash

Hi, the usual way to order disambiguation pages is to list them by expected use from the page, not alphabetically. What was your intent with John Nash? It would be useful if you put in edit summaries. (John User:Jwy talk) 19:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I guess John Forbes Nash, Jr. would be the guy most people would look for. I reckon John Nash should link to him and then have that page have a link back to the disambiguation page.
All the rest aren't particularly more notable than the others and so alphabetical is as good a way as any to list them. Isn't really enough names to split them into groups.--EchetusXe (talk) 19:17, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
I agree generally, but suspect the others might _as a whole_ be searched for as much as the mathematician, so I'm thinking of moving him to the top and leaving it at that? (I can spot your response here) (John User:Jwy talk) 19:22, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeh, go for it.--EchetusXe (talk) 19:32, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
done - thanks. (John User:Jwy talk) 19:34, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

George Hannah

I just wanted to check that George Hannah (footballer born 1914) was George Lamb Hannah? The other footballer, George Hannah (footballer born 1928) has a middle name starting with L and a redirect for George Lamb Hannah redirected to him. Peanut4 (talk) 23:31, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I check that. His middle name was Lamb, I don't know anything about the other guy.--EchetusXe (talk) 23:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Ernest Perry

Hello again! I notice you created Ernest Perry (footballer) and added that he played for Bradford City. There is no player called Ernest Perry who ever played a first team game for Bradford City and suspected he may have played for Bradford Park Avenue instead. Can you clarify? Peanut4 (talk) 19:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

No it definitely says Bradford City. He probably just never made the first team. The book says Park Avenue for numerous others so I doubt it is wrong.--EchetusXe (talk) 19:47, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay. I've left a note on WT:FOOTY for someone with an allfootballers.com subscription to have a check. Peanut4 (talk) 20:06, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
It seems allfootballers makes no mention of Bradford City or Bradford PA. It says he played for Port Vale until 1921 and then for Crewe from 1921. What is the wording of your book? Peanut4 (talk) 20:22, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
User:Struway2 has added a note at WT:FOOTY too from another book. As a result, I've removed the details on the main page but added a cautionary note on the talk page. I guess it's better to err on the side of caution about debatable information rather than include it. Peanut4 (talk) 20:43, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
The exact words are:
"He was released at the end of that campaign [1920/21] and then moved on to Bradford City and Crewe Alexandra."

I've found that he always lists the teams in chronological order but he may have mixed them up this time.--EchetusXe (talk) 21:07, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

It may well be that he joined Bradford City at the start of the 1921-22 season but never made the first team so moved back towards his home area and went to Crewe Alexandra instead. Peanut4 (talk) 21:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
I've just had a Eureka moment! He can be spotted on the team photos here so clearly never made the first team. Peanut4 (talk) 21:22, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Excellent!--EchetusXe (talk) 22:01, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Ron Flowers

Hmm. Does seem coincidental, but I can't find anything to back it up. this suggests there is another Pro in Ron's family, but not a John it seems.  slυмgυм [ ←→ ] 21:41, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Arthur Moreland

Just to let you know that Geoffrey Moreland is your Arthur Moreland, if you have anything to add or want to create any redirects. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:11, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Ahh right. tbh I would have noticed anyway as I read all the listed new articles out of interest. Yeah I'll see what I can do.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:21, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
My book says he was born in June 1912. But seen as you have the whole date I guess yours is probably correct.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:29, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

The only Davies my reference has playing for Blackpool around that time is an S. Davies. He played three consecutive league matches and one FA Cup match in the club's 1912–13 season, all in the number 11 shirt. Either it isn't the same player, or he had a nickname beginning with the letter "S". Do you have access to any other sources? - Dudesleeper / Talk 13:47, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Other than that he played for Vale under the shirt numbers 7 and 9, all the information I have is on the article.
User:Fetler has written a good article about Chorley so I guess he might have info on past players.
Davies didn't seem to be that hot so I imagine he just never made the Blackpool first team.--EchetusXe (talk) 14:22, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
That would be my guess too, since Roy Calley's book only lists players who made at least one appearance in the league or the two major domestic cups. - Dudesleeper / Talk 15:49, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

James Baker (footballer born 1911)

Hi, I believe your source might be confusing the Port Vale player of this name with the Wolves player also named James Edward Baker (though known as Jack) and has concluded they are one and the same. The Wolves player however, was born in 1904 in Wales and never played for any of the other clubs mentioned in your article.

This is the only James Edward Baker that Wolves' records list as having played for the club; however, I suppose it's possible he may have been on the books there but never featured in the first team, however sharing the exact same name and playing era (pretty much; 1926-41) makes me suspicious. Wolvesweb (talk) 12:07, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, it says he was born in Wolverhampton. I guess he could have been signed up in his teens but failed to make the first team. I would think your probably right, but if he was born in Wolverhampton then I think it makes the possibility of two James Edward Bakers more likely.--EchetusXe (talk) 12:17, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Seeing as he's in the category Category:People from Longton, Staffordshire, I wouldn't have thought he'd need to be in the parent category Category:People from Stoke-on-Trent as well?

Re the above note about James Edward Bakers. Joyce's book (Joyce, Michael (2004). Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939. Nottingham: SoccerData (Tony Brown). ISBN 978-1-899468-67-6.) has "your" one, known as Jim Baker, at Wolves in the 1930/31 season, but never playing for the first team, by which time the Wolves one, Jimmy Baker, had left for Cov. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:21, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Meh, its kinda happened that anyone who was born in what is now Stoke-on-Trent before the city was incorporated but lived in the city after it got incorporated gets put in both the town and city category.
Thnx, for clearing up the Baker thing.--EchetusXe (talk) 12:35, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Order of articles

Basically, no. Anything that'll stop me getting too bored with the process on any given day. The other day I got so bored it forced me into working on 1931 FA Cup Final, which was a good thing, because I shouldn't have neglected it. Started off working down by appearances, but kept coming to players who deserved a better article than the cut'n'paste basic, so there's a dozen or so hanging around half done waiting for inspiration. Then went on to all players on a random page number in Matthews' book. Or players beginning with M. Or player no # in my redlinks list. Or whatever. hope that helps :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:53, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

OK thnx, no real pattern then :)--EchetusXe (talk) 23:05, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

William Newton

I think they are different people. My sum total of my information about the City Newton is that his full name is William Alfred Andrew Newton and he was born in Romiley. After a handful of wartime appearances he made two League appearances at the start of 1919–20. Oldelpaso (talk) 13:25, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Ah ok, they'll be different people then.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:26, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I've filled in the infobox, but as he never played for my lot's first team, I've nothing else to add. Joyce's book gives birth year 1911, but your birthdate is consistent with the register entry, as is Bestwood Village. According to the instructions at category:Living people, people over 90 with no death information can go in Category:Possibly living people, but I don't know if {{Lifetime}} caters for that. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thnx.--EchetusXe (talk) 17:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

You may well have something to add to or correct in the above. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:53, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Of the ones marked as Birmingham:

David Brown: confirm he guested for Birmingham in 1918, and played League football for Dundee, Rangers, Stoke, Notts Cty, Darlo, Crewe, Barrow, known as Davie Brown
Kenneth Faulkner: will be coming soon as Ken Faulkner
Fred Gardner: was a Birmingham player whose only first-team football for the club was in the wartime leagues; he played league football for Newport as well as Cov, see [1]
Henry Lane: will be coming soon as Harry Lane (footballer)

Also, Hong Soo is better known as Frank Soo. hope this helps, Struway2 (talk) 22:45, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Happen to remember removing [[Category:Blackpool F.C. players]] from any articles in the last couple of days? There are currently 573 players in the category, but 574 linked players in List of Blackpool F.C. players. It's (relatively) easy to keep tabs on additions of the category to articles; not so when it's removed. There's a chance the category is behind in updating, but I don't think that's the case this time. - Dudesleeper / Talk 16:58, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Nope, I don't think so. Unless I changed it to [[Category:Blackpool F.C. wartime guest players]]. Can't see me doing on accident. I guess if the article was deleted then it should be red-linked on the page.--EchetusXe (talk) 17:58, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi - sorry to lay this on you, but you're the main man here for Port Vale. Do you fancy creating a list of players who played for both Vale and their arch-rivals? There is a list at the Stoke website. You could follow the format I used for my local rivalry. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:31, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh sweet, nice find! Was gonna do it anyway but thought I would have to trawl through the Port Vale player articles to find out who played for Stoke.--EchetusXe (talk) 09:31, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Came up with some problems in my book.

No record of them playing for Stoke: Eli Adams, Lee Ashcroft, William Bradbury (footballer), Bill Cope (footballer)

No record of them playing for Vale: Frank Baker, Albert Boardman, David Brodie, Jackie Brown, Ted Evans, Tommy Greaves, Harry Mellor, Bert Miller, Ian Moores (does a trial with no appearances really count?), Harry Sellars (player-coach at Vale), Sam Spencer, Cyril Watkin, Ronnie Wilcox, Davide Xausa (trial with Vale before one appearance for Stoke)

Would appreciate any help!--EchetusXe (talk) 20:59, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I have looked up the first four on www.allfootballers.com:

I have edited the Bradbury article to reflect this.

As for the others:

  • Frank Baker - was on the books of Port Vale in 1935-36, before joining Stoke
  • Albert Boardman - was on the books of Vale in 1894-95, before joining Stoke
  • David (Davy) Brodie - joined Vale after leaving Stoke in 1897
  • Jackie Brown - no mention
  • Ted (John Edward) Evans - joined Vale after leaving Bury in 1896. Played for Stoke 1891-1895
  • Tommy Greaves - no mention
  • Harry Mellor - on books of Vale 1896. Played for Stoke 1897-1900
  • Bert Miller - no mention
  • Ian Moores - listed as registered with Vale in the 1986-87 season
  • Harry Sellars - on books of Vale as player in the 1937-38 season. Played for Stoke 1923-1935
  • Sam Spencer - on books of Vale in the 1929-30 season. Played for Stoke 1921-1922 (also with New Brighton and Bristol Rovers)
  • Cyril Watkin - on books of Port Vale before joining Stoke in 1944
  • Ronnie Wilcox - no mention
  • Davide Xausa - listed as having been on the books of Vale in January 1998, and is included in the Category:Port Vale F.C. players

I hope this is of some help. That's one way to spend an hour on a Sunday morning! Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:56, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Dennis Isherwood

I vaguely wondered whether they might be father and son. Although the dates are compatible, it seems unlikely that the son would have been born and brought up in Brierley Hill while the father was kicking round Cheshire/North Staffs. And my books don't mention the younger Isherwood having a footballing father, and they do tend to mention family members where such exist. There's also a Harold Isherwood, of an age to be the father of the older Dennis, though again he probably isn't. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:11, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I've moved Dennis Isherwood the elder to Dennis Isherwood (footballer born 1924). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:47, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
At my old high school we had a Spanish teacher called Miss Isherwood, she was Spanish and I always assumed it was a Spanish name. Though apparently it is actually a Welsh name. Thnx!--EchetusXe (talk) 12:18, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

'93 play-off final

Thanks for creating that article, it was in the back of my mind to start it but I never got round to it. There'll be no gloating from me about getting out of the third tier (nor about beating Vale, whom I don't mind too much, unlike your local rivals), though it was good that we took over 40,000 fans that day. I've made a few edits and will add the Albion team line-up soon and whatever else I can find out. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 10:42, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, gotta hate Sjoke.--EchetusXe (talk) 12:18, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Stoke up/on Trent

Fair enough, thanks... so why is category:People from Stoke-on-Trent divided according to towns within the greater conurbation Hanley, Fenton, etc except for Stoke? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Dunno, guess the two names are close enough not to bother to separate them.--EchetusXe (talk) 21:41, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Jack Maddock

Came across this parish magazine, if you scroll down to page 20 there's a piece about Jack Maddock, written by his son so not desperately neutral, but thought you might be interested. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:02, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Great, thnx!--EchetusXe (talk) 13:23, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

which I moved to John James (English footballer born 1948). Happened to notice in the article his full name was John Brian James, but in the infobox was John Brian Jones, and there's also a redirect from John Brian Jones. Dunno which one's the typo, but one of them must be... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:08, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Dunno who the Jones guy is.--EchetusXe (talk) 21:43, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi - between us, we are gradually getting this article up to scratch. I'm rather busy at the moment and will be away over the weekend.

You might care to try to incorporate some of the content on his Leeds profile at [2] into the article. There is rather a large discrepancy in the transfer fee from Gillingham to Coventry - £75k per the article but only £18.5k per the website. Perhaps we should ask ChrisTheDude for his comments/input?

All the best - the way things are going Saints & Port Vale may be playing each other in 2010-11 - Ouch! Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 11:41, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Would be the first time in 50 years (other than one round of the FA Cup a while back).

Anyway, ESPN and The Sentinel say £75,000. I'll ask anyway.

Thanks for your work.--EchetusXe (talk) 17:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Just to muddy the waters further, Roger Triggs' book "The Men Who Made Gillingham F.C." and the club's official centenary history book from 1993 both say £85,000!! I would suggest that leedsfans (which appears to be a fansite and therefore of dubious reliability) is simply completely wrong, as for the other sources £10k seems within the usual realms of discrepancy for such things - see Steve Bruce for cited examples of at least three different fees quoted for his move to Man U. Maybe it would be best to use a similar approach here - say "a fee of either £75k or £85k" or some such. I can provide full refs for one or other or both of the two GFC books which quote £85k if required...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 20:17, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Sure ok, hand them over lol.--EchetusXe (talk) 20:22, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Lees

Surprised your book omits DS79, he was there nearly two seasons, though I wouldn't expect Neil Brown to include all the brief stays with foreign and/or non-league clubs. My Matthews book has Newport/Altrincham/Morning Star HK/DS79/Stafford Rangers between Blues & Scunny, but no mention of Cape Town City, where's that supposed to come? I'll have a proper look at it later. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:06, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Can't find confirmation of Altrincham where Matthews has it, but Scunny say they signed him from Altrincham, not directly from Stafford Rangers. Can't find mention of Morning Star at all apart from Matthews, where does Kent put them? Struway2 (talk) 11:00, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Pretty much instead of DS79, before a trial with Blackpool and then onto Rangers.--EchetusXe (talk) 11:03, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Updated him, verifiability, not truth, and all that. 1984 is desperately unconvincing: a trial for Blackpool and playing for Stafford Rangers and Altrincham between getting a stuffing in the Eredivisie on 12 May and signing for Scunny in September... My book puts Stafford in the 82/83 season, but after DS'79; which is impossible unless he came home in the winter break and played for them then. Does Kent give date or season for Stafford? Struway2 (talk) 14:37, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Nope, no dates (other than Vale).--EchetusXe (talk) 14:56, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

You might want to note that BLP applies just as much to talk pages as it does to articles. Comments like this are a bad idea. Considering that I've had to speak to the police today about an individual who took offence to material I added to Wikipedia, I think it's a good idea that other people be careful about posting off-the-cuff opinions as well. Just a heads-up. Cheers. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 15:51, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I stand by my comment, but I'll not let it get into the debate on the Husbands page. That is my opinion but everything in the article is fact.--EchetusXe (talk) 14:43, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Luke Prosser

I believe "Crosser" is Luke Prosser; it seems The Press have misspelled his name. I seem to remember reading a report of the match on a fan website that stated his correct name, but I can't seem to find it. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:09, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Ah ok, I was just shocked that what seemed like false information was on the article for over year. Might as well re-insert the info.--EchetusXe (talk) 18:46, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Moran

Moran played six games early on in the 1990/91 season, and then not at all for nearly six months, until mid-March 91, when he made sub appearances in three consecutive games, which were his last first-team games for the club. Mackay left in January 91, Macari joined in February. It depends whether what Moran says about never playing in the first team again is literally true, or whether he meant the manager concerned never played him in the first team again. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:59, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

You could have just said "I don't know". lol--EchetusXe (talk) 14:02, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Wish I'd thought of it sooner. You might consider doing the same for Vale, if you don't already. Beats wasting time looking through an existing list. - Dudesleeper / Talk 09:37, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

wow, didn't even know about that. Nice.--EchetusXe (talk) 09:39, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi - I don't normally bother to try to promote articles that I have created as they should speak for themselves, but I see that North Road (stadium) is a candidate for promotion to Featured Article. Can you have a look at the Antelope Ground (a far more comprehensive article) and let me know what you think; my modesty won't let me rate it higher than "C" class. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:41, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

"Full time" could probably be replaced with something less football-sounding. Could also do with a photograph of the site now. But yeah, its at least a B as it stands now I would imagine.--EchetusXe (talk) 16:40, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your thoughts - I've changed the heading for the last section to "Closure" - rather boring, but less cliched. I drive past the location of the ground regularly - I must take a camera one day and take a photo of the MFI showroom and Gas HQ that stand there now; neither are architectural gems. I'm off on my hols in a few days - I'll put it up for peer review when I get back. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:42, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, should prove to be a real inspiring picture lol. Enjoy your holidays!--EchetusXe (talk) 18:36, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Horsfield

Thanks for expanding the personal life sentence section, it certainly needed it. I've cut some excess detail – not sure how important "man has flu for a few days" would seem in 10 years time – and tidied up per Manual of Style. Where did you source the stats table from? because he definitely played in the FA Cup for Halifax in 1997/98. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

It will seem important if swine flu decimates half the population lol.
The stats are all from Soccerbase. 1997-98 only listed games in which he scored. Not seeing 30 goals in 20 games as likely, I noticed the Lincoln City profile said "Geoff's goals helped the Shaymen regain their Football League status; his 30 from 40 games in 1997/98 seeing him end the season as the Conference's top scorer." I assumed they were league stats, perhaps a few of those games were in the FA Cup, or perhaps he did play 40 league games, just his FA Cup stats aren't mentioned anywhere.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks. Such a pleasant surprise! So colourful as well.--EchetusXe 19:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, mind checking your Port Vale book and confirming that he did play for Blackpool? As I wrote on the subject's talk page, he's omitted in Michael Joyce's book... - Dudesleeper / Talk 16:56, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

No mention of him playing for any club other than South Shore or Vale. Which usually indicates he didn't play for any other club. Cheers.--EchetusXe 17:10, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, Joyce's book also lists Accrington as one of his clubs, so it seems nobody can agree. - Dudesleeper / Talk 21:44, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

S'okay, worked it out now. It's probably yet another error in Calley's book. - Dudesleeper / Talk 21:52, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
OK, good.--EchetusXe 21:55, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
...or maybe not. I saw the initials W.S. in Calley's book and obviously wasn't happy that they didn't match Harry, so I made it work in my own, excellent way... - Dudesleeper / Talk 22:01, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea.--EchetusXe 22:02, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi there, I saw this player listed as a former Wolves player. Wolves records detail a "George Bowen" having played for us before transferring to Burslem Port Vale in Summer 1904, which suggests this is the same player. It could be possible there was a Jack also on our books who didn't appear in the first team, and that there was a George who moved to Vale but didn't appear for their first team I guess.

What do you think? Do you have - know of anyone having - a copy of the pre-WW2 Football League Players' Records book that could establish whether both a Jack and George have played in the FL? Wolvesweb (talk) 12:49, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Another of my book reads: "a cautious approach was adopted for the 1904-05 season, with speedy left-winger Jack Bowen from Wolverhampton Wanderers, being the only non-local new player signed." So the chances of a George Bowen also coming from Wolves at the same time but not appearing in the first team seem very slim.--EchetusXe 23:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Joyce's book Joyce, Michael (2004). Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939. Nottingham: SoccerData (Tony Brown). p. 31. ISBN 978-1-899468-67-6. has the following details for George Bowen, b. Walsall 1875:
Bridgetown Amateurs
1899–1900 Wolves 48 13
1901 Liverpool 2 0
1902 Wolves 3 1
1904 Port Vale 6 1
Years denote seasons in which the player played in the league. Joyce doesn't list a Jack Bowen. Also, LFChistory has much the same without the appearances, also for George Bowen. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:36, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Sru.--EchetusXe 09:15, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification, the info provided by Joyce fits the biography info I have. I'll alter the article accordingly. Wolvesweb (talk) 11:17, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Howland's U21 caps

Here's another. As to the fourth (or, I think, first), it's an interesting question. NIFG say 2 starts and 2 sub apps from 2007-2008, but I thought he came on in one of these two, which were in 2006. Unfortunately the Irish FA are typically unforthcoming on the details. I'll keep looking. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:34, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

The official site maintains he has three. So I think for now its best to revert to 3 and list them.--EchetusXe 09:15, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Current edition Sky Sports Annual confirms 4 (p.964). And here is the missing one: Romania v NI, 24 March 2007, came on in the 75th minute. Fits with NIFG and with the Irish FA site not having been updated to reflect his 4th app, and proves me wrong about the Israel ones :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:02, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Nice one Stru. Knew you'd find it :D--EchetusXe 22:32, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

This club's name keeps coming up in articles about Port Vale and Stoke players from the 1890s, many of whom also played for Southampton. I am thinking of creating a (stub) article about the club. Do you know where their "ground" was? It's taken me ages to locate where Dresden is on the map - it appears to be at the junction of the A5035 (Belgrave Road) and the B5038 (Trentham Road). Is that right? I've only been to Stoke once (to visit Trentham Park) so my knowledge of the area is non-existent.

If you think that you might be able to add anything to the article, please let me know. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:01, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Nope. There is a pitch today on Highland Drive, but I dunno if its 100 years old. I had a mate who lived in Dresden and most of my friends live in Longton. It is a 15 minute drive from my house.
Anyway, they had a reserve outfit.--EchetusXe 13:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I've now created the article - I'm sure you'll add/edit what you can. I've also created the Dresden, Staffordshire article, another stub. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 20:19, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Nice one.--EchetusXe 20:28, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

History of Stoke

Hi, some months ago you said it was a shame that no one had written an article on the history of Stoke (O-T not U-T). Well I've started one and I'd value your opinion on it. It's about two-thirds finished and what's left is probably the most difficult bit :) i.e. the final successful proposal for federation and the wrangle about You can find it here. Please leave any comments on the talk page there. One thing I'm not sure about is a title, you can see what I'm using at the moment but it doesn't seem a bit long winded but then I'm not convinced that the History of S-O-T is specific enough. NtheP (talk) 22:26, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, nice job! It is far too specific for History of Stoke-on-Trent, perhaps Federation of Stoke-on-Trent or something.--EchetusXe 18:00, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the spellcheck. Hopefully I'll get it finished later this month but it's going to need another trip to the Parliamentary archives first. I don't know where the VCH got it's references from but they don't tie up with the actual records - so a lot of references need re-assessing. I need to avoid making it too boring about debates about rateable values and rates! NtheP (talk) 10:46, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
It will be fantastic when its complete :)--EchetusXe 12:53, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Only having IE I never think about columns is reflist. A second trip the the parliamentary archives this week to garner more references and hopefully the article will be ready in a week or so. I just wish I could find some relevant pictures e.g. the mayors of the 6 towns at the time of federation or GC Kent, town clerk of Longton and really the person who pushed it all through eventually NtheP (talk) 14:56, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, pictures are not my speciality. Though I have uploaded logos for companies listed in Category:Companies based in Stoke-on-Trent. I will create a Stoke-on-Trent template when you have finished the article.--EchetusXe 15:30, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
OK it's done and published - Federation of Stoke-on-Trent I was thinking of a DYK nomination but couldn't think of a suitable hook regarding it being the only federated borough in England. NtheP (talk) 11:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Excellent. Can't think of a good hook either tbh.--EchetusXe 14:34, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
