MLS players

[edit]

Hi. Yes, we know they have contracts. The point we make is that football players aren't notable until they play their first game. --Dweller (talk) 15:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because you are not formatting it correctly. An infobox can't say 1996-1998, 2000. You have to list the club again in 2000. Fix that, put the proper stats and put the reference in external links. michfan2123 (talk) 03:06, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Linking

[edit]

How can i link the lider marmol spanish article to the lider marmol english entry? elomen76

Add this at the end of the article: [[es:Líder Mármol]] and on the Spanish Wikipedia, to link to the English article add [[en:Eder Líder Mármol Cuenca]] -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:14, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Líder Mármol

[edit]

Hello, I am fan of the Hércules CF of Spain. Here Líder Mármol registered for a contract of 6 months, with option to 3 more years if he was giving good results. Finally they decided not to renew him, though he played very well. Simply he wanted to know if... is Mármol going to register for the Red Bull?? Any information that you need on him, ask for it me that I have great. Regards. --Herculano (talk) 01:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red Bull and Chicago are interested in him. do you have his statistics as a player?--Elomen76

Article deletions

[edit]

Hi Elomen. The reason the article was deleted is that the player has not actually played in a fully professional league. Just signing for the club or playing in a friendly is not considered enough. See WP:ATHLETE for more details. пﮟოьεԻ 57 11:01, 22 March 2008 (UTC) ____________________________________________________[reply]

That makes no sense, because in a few weeks he will play a game, and the fact he has signed eith a proffesional team makes him a professional athlete. Why do college football players and college basketball players not have to have played a pro game to get a page? So in two weeks when Borman plays who will undelete his page???? User:Elomen76

Borman has played with the Rhode Island Stingrays in the PDL and will start for the Red Bulls on saturday, no need to delete. ELomen76

Please undelete Kevin Mesa article he is a proffessional soccer player as well, and the deletion standard being applied are not applying to other team players.

Saying that he "will" play for the club is in violation of WP:CRYSTAL. For all we know he may suffer an injury in training this week and never play. However, if he does play, then I will withdraw the AfD, or if he plays after the AfD has closed, you can notify me and it can be quickly restored. With regards to Kevin Mesa, the discussion resulted in his article being deleted, but it will be restored as soon as he plays. Regards, пﮟოьεԻ 57 15:01, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ok, thanks, but why dont borman's pdl games play, as other players with PDL experience are considered pros.

ELomen76

Er, they shouldn't be is the quick answer to that - the PDL is an amateur league. Where I've seen only PDL game in a player's bio, I've always nominated for delete (I should tell you that I've just prodded John Gilkerson and Michael Palacio for the same reason). You're welcome to do the same.
Anyway, thanks for reacting calmly to the explanation - some editors get very upset when told that their contributions don't meet certain criteria. Your contributions on US football (such as Iván Trujillo or Caleb Patterson-Sewell who qualifies as he has played in USL-2) are more than welcome. Regards, пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

being on the teams roster when the season starts makes them professionals, so if they dont get a game until 3 months from now or dont play at all, and are on bench but still dont play, they wont be able to have a page, that doesnt make sense, they are getting paid to play pro soccer, debuting in a game doesnt change the fact they are pro players, so they cant have a page until they get in a game? User:ELomen76

It makes them professionals, but being a professional isn't enough by the criteria of WP:BIO#Athletes - they must have actually played a game. Imagine an 18-year old player who signs a 1-year contract with a fourth division team in England, but then gets injured in training, and is released at the end of the year without ever playing - he's not notable. The only way we can guarantee that a player becomes notable is that he actually plays a game. If you want to discuss changing this viewpoint, you are more than welcome to bring the issue up on WT:FOOTY. Regards, пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Borman has represented South Africa at the under 19 level, that should count for something.

Why can a college basketball player like OJ Mayo etc, have a wikipedia page when he has never played any semblanc of proffesional basketball, yet a soccer player drafted out of college and signed to a pro team cannot have a page until he plays an actual pro game, should we start deleting all college players that play basketball, football, baseball, etc. Please clarify???

ELomen76

On the Borman issue, it is the general consensus amongst WP:FOOTY that youth caps do not confer notability. Regarding college basketball players, that's not my specialist area so I'm not really in place to comment. Oh, and some people replied to your question at WT:FOOTY. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:28, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Zurdorojas.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Your image uploads

[edit]

Hi Elomen76. As you probably know, we have a very strict Wikipedia policy on pictures; notably, uploading pictures under false claims of being made by yourself is a huge violation of our policy, and is considered vandalism. I noted you uploaded a lot of pictures claiming you were the copyright holder; this was easily proven to be untrue by a Web search, that returned "your" pictures to be all copyrighted and simply taken around the Internet and then uploaded here under a false claim of free licensing. So, I have deleted all these pictures in compliance with Wikipedia rules. Since this is not the first time you upload pictures that violate Wikipedia policy, any other future upload of similar images will be considered as vandalism, and will cause a block against your account. Thank you. --Angelo (talk) 13:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Jeremy Hall (soccer)

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Jeremy Hall (soccer), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Article was created despite clear instructions from WP:FOOTY not to create articles on newly-drafted MLS players until their professional debut, as per WP:N and WP:ATHLETE

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

When Hall makes his debut how can i get the page back up, as its been deleted. Elomen76 (talk) 15:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Elomen76[reply]

Re: Alfredo Pacheco

[edit]

Okay to begin with, i'm a Salvadoran football supporter and have been following the league, it's national team and it's players for many years. I work/do research for one of the biggest sports related newspapers in El Salvador (El Grafico). And from my time there, i have picked up a few things through reading old articles and interviewing players/coaches. Now, from what i know, your posts contain various errors. Firstly, Pacheco is not a Left sided midfielder. He has always played as a LB or a LWB. Secondly, you deleted his youth years, which i know for a fact (through actually talking to the player) to be the right dates. Thirdly, Pacheco is no longer the national team captian. He was given the captincy in early 2008, but has not been the national team caption for a couple of months now. And finaly, i'm not sure were you have gotten your stats for his national team caps and goals but they are not correct. The reason i know this is because i know for a fact that he has scored more than six goals with the national team. I assume maybe you took the stats on the national-football-team website to be correct, but again, that site lacks a lot of information, and that's another reason why i also removed it.

I'm actually in the process of getting another interview with him to verify his cap count among other things, so for the time being i suggest you just leave it as it is.

Also, nothing that you have added is refrenced, and that alone gives me the right to edit your posts.

Thanks for clearing that up, if you can confirm the cap figures that would be fine, im going to put the titles as I had them, because its easier to read. Can you allow me that, since I researched that. _____________________- Im a regular contributer with regards to footballers and have researched the player, can we agree to include what you put and what i put, let me know what you think of how the page is now. Your info is accurate and so is mine, so can we please leave the page as it is now. Usually, national-football-teams.com is accurate but if u can get better info thats fine. You had put he won the 2001 apertura , FAS won the 2002 apertura not 2001. I corrected that. The youth years i didnt mean to delete. Elomen76

The only reason i've changed the titles in his Honours section is because i've looked through the profiles of big name European players, and they use the format that i have added. I think it looks a lot cleaner, and like i said, it's what is commonly used for European player profiles (Beckham, Ronaldo, Zidane etc).

As to the rest of what you had added, well i agree that some of the inforamtion was correct. The only problem is i felt it needed to be re-written, so that's why i've changed it.

And thanks for udating the title wins. That was my mistake.

are you creating an El Salvador U-21 PAGE OR 2003 cONCACAF u-20 TORNAMENT page, since you include links in your write up to them, if not you should unlink them.

Also, do you have a picture of Pacheco that you can include in his page, how do you get the league statistics?

Yes, i will be creaing both an El Salvador U21 page and a CONCACAF U20 Tournament page.

As for the stats, well through my job, i have telephone numbers/emails to all the first division and second division clubs in El Salvador. When i need stats verifyed, i contact the respective club and they confirm if the details are correct.

Oh and as for a picture of the player, no i don't have one. Sorry.

The LPG stats are incorrect. I've asked FAS directly to confirm my stats and they are correct. Also, i've been keeping track of each game/goles played/scored since he made his 200th appearence, and my numbers match what the club have told me. As for his club status, well he has provisionally signed with the Red Bulls, but he is yet to sign any form of contract. That will most likely be done once he arrives in NY. If you notice, the Red Bulls have yet to officially announce him as one of there own. Even yesterday that they released information to the press as to who they had signed and who they had let go, Pacheco's name was nowhere to be seen. Once you see him listed on there site, you'll know that he has signed a contract and then the edits about his transfer can be completed.

Re: Christian Castillo

[edit]

Can you update the Christian Castillo page with statistics, club career, etc.

Thanks. Elomen76

Yes, i'm currently in the process of varyfing the stats on all the national team members, so it might take some time. But i'll get to it eventually.

Changes

[edit]

Hi. Perhaps you should acquaint yourself with the discussion at WP:FOOTY which recommended the implementation of the new enhanced football player infobox which was designed to make accessibility for web users using sight readers easier. Perhaps you should also acquaint yourself with the WP:MOS guidelines which specify how dates, years, places, heights and weights, and other basic information should be presented. Once you've done that, and understood what I'm doing, then perhaps you'd like to apologize to me for accusing me of vandalism. Thanks. --JonBroxton (talk) 04:44, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Elomen,

Photos are tricky. The first thing you should do is read WP:FIT, which outlines the copyright rules regarding photos you found on the internet. I know that when I first started using Wikipedia I was all enthusiastic, and started uploading photos and logos, and didn't realize that I had to provide copyright details and terms of use templates on everything I upload; of course, it all got deleted.

The bottom line is this: if you actually took the photo yourself, it's fine. You can state that you release the copyright into public domain by adding the correct tag from WP:ICTIC, and you don't have to worry. If the image falls under fair use laws (like, if it is a logo of a company or a sports team), you can add the correct tag from WP:TAGS/FU, and everything should be OK there too,

However, if you don't own the copyright to the photo (i.e. if you find it on the internet, or you can't get permission from the copyright owner), the best option is simply not to upload anything, because you guarantee it'll get deleted almost immediately. Wiki bosses take copyright infringement VERY seriously, because it can affect the entire project financially, so they jump on that kind of stuff straight away.

Hope this helps! --JonBroxton (talk) 16:16, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nick Zimmerman

[edit]

Hi, I went to restore the Nick Zimmerman article[1] but it seemed the page had been already been recreated a day or so ago. Drop me a line if I can help in any other way. Cheers. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 04:18, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Johnsonrb.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Johnsonrb.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 18:44, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Johnsonrb.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Johnsonrb.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Slaviša Ubiparipović. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Slaviša Ubiparipović. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Brandon Poltronieri has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability, fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
