Adding references in articles and dates

[edit]

Hello Evmoon, thanks for your recent edits. In English Wikipedia, whenever people add refs at the end of sentences or somewhere in the middle, the punctuation marks always goes before the ref tags. E.g., this addition had the full stop after the reference tag but I have moved it to the correct place in line with other references found in millions of other articles.

Also, dates on Wikipedia generally don't have the ordinals (st, nd, rd or th) after these numbers, major exceptions are dates in ref titles.

Please keep this information in mind when you make future edits about adding references and dates to articles. Thanks -- Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:33, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks I have corrected the mistakes in the articles I edited. Evmoon (talk) 23:09, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Poor additions

[edit]

Further to Iggy's comment above, may I give you advice. When adding the same information to multiple articles, I always try to find a way to incorporate it into what text is already present, changing up phrasing and putting it in different sections when needed. And if the scope of the article means that the information may be excessive coverage in some, I don't add it. Please keep this in mind instead of copy-pasting the same excessive sentence to the end of several dozen articles in future. Kingsif (talk) 20:27, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please also see my edit reason here; for one sentence, there's a multitude of errors. Kingsif (talk) 20:34, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone back through my edits and fixed the issues of the refs and date format. In terms of the word allot, I would argue that it has the same meaning as give and does not imply random. I chose it to be consistent with other users similar edits to similar pages. Many of the articles I added this information to are very sparse in information owing to history of coverage of the athletes. Evmoon (talk) 23:09, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since you're not even using the verb "to allot" correctly, I don't believe you actually understand its layered meaning (related to lottery). In the edit I link, you wrote She was allotted 5 when the FA announced their legacy numbers scheme - this would literally mean that Parker was given five legacy numbers, with the suggestion that she was given five selections to pick her own, or that the five numbers were given at random.
I appreciate that in many of the articles that have little information, giving a long explanation of this is decent padding. In articles with more information, it is probably too much detail for something fairly inconsequential; it doesn't approach SIGCOV for any individual in the primary source (just a list of names and numbers), with secondary sources reporting on the fact that current players will have legacy numbers somewhere on their shirts and not including a list (also no mention of the past players). Kingsif (talk) 08:47, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really have the time to go through 227+ articles to fix references, can I recommend that while you're clearing up your additions, you change the references to these: [1][2] Kingsif (talk) 21:06, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WSL stats

[edit]

Do not add WP:OR and WP:SYNTH material to the article, there is no source for that player's ranking anywhere, it was manually composed by users so there is no guarantee that this list is correct. See for example Premier League stats, if something like that cannot be found for WSL then it cannot be added. Snowflake91 (talk) 16:39, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
