VPL and NSWPL clubs[edit]

G'day EK,

I notice you've created a lot of empty placeholder articles lately (e.g. Kingston City FC, Manly United FC). It's generally considered a bad idea to create nearly-blank articles (the existence of a template pointing to other articles doesn't count as content), as this makes it difficult for other editors to work out which articles exist and which don't. Please add some information to each of these clubs over the next few days, because I'm supposed to speedy them, but would rather not. I've added content to Essendon Royals as an example of the minimum amount of context an article needs to be worthwhile. Thanks, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 15:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a bad idea; however, isn't one of the other state Premier Leagues also sponsored by Vodaphone? (WA?) Could make things confusing. Definitely needs to be noted on the actual pages, though. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 12:44, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Football (soccer)[edit]

Following the consensus reached at Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, are you intending to undo all of your reversions of my moving of articles from Category:Australian football players to Category:Australian football (soccer) players' ? Grant65 | Talk 14:56, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? nope. --Executive.koala 15:34, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll do it when I get a chance. Next time think about what you are doing. I don't have a problem with NSW Premier League, Victorian Premier League, etc, because (as far as I am aware) there is no conflict with bodies in other sports. Grant65 | Talk 23:05, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sliat_1981 here: I read that they want to introduce a team from Canberra and other places in Nsw. I don't mind Canberra, but I would hate to see this turn into the NRL where it's Virtually all NSW and a little from 2 other states. If it's all NSW and Melbourne don't make the finals much, people here will turn into Soccer Victoria. I think they should support it too, but I think this soccer league has the potential to survive, where the other one failed. But the viewing audiences here for the final weren't as big (maybe it's because it was between the same state or maybe it's taking longer to catch on. I don't know). But it seems to me if it goes on like this it'll seem more like Soccer NSW than Football Australia and maybe we'll see the dreaded troubles with too many teams from one state and being less well off. And don't believe Tancred, there are other cities in Victoria. He obviously has never heard of Ballarat of Geelong.

Sliat_1981 I'll wait to hear from you, koala...

Sliat_1981, how dare you delete my valid comments from this user's page. What you do on your own page, I dont care about but you should not go around deleting comments from others users pages - my original comment is below.
Sliat 1981, please try and read what I write, all of it, not just the parts you want to. Please show me a football stadium in Geelong. As for Ballarat, this city does not have a football ground, and is home to only 87,000 people. Tancred 05:06, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sliat_1981: Koala, I'd like you to answer when I can, I have a few pros and cons for it, but I'm not prepared to discuss them with some people here.

Blacks: I've just read some of your discussion comments and just had to contact you. You appear to be obstinate in the extreme. If you propose that Australian Rules Football no longer maintain proprietary over the term "Football" what might they then use? AFL is a misnomer (afterall Rugby League is not called NRL, Rugby Union is not called ARU, or Super 14). In Australia it is expedient to refer to Soccer as Soccer, as any departure from this will normaly require an element of elaboration (i.e. What do you mean, Soccer?). You seem to be of the mindset that Soccer will overtake every sport in Australia in popularity, and defend this position with the most extreme arrogance. What people like you fail to comprehend however, is that support for soccer is derived largely from the support bases of other sports (this stands to logic), and support for Soccer and say Rugby League are not mutually exclusive. If people love the game of soccer so much, answer me this: Why the constantly poor attendence at NSL/A-League games? The answer I am looking for is not poor management, as this excuse has more than outlived its relevence. The popularity of the two games that have rated a mention in the last 12 months (Australia v. Uruguay and Australia v. Greece)has largely been derived through factors outside of the conduct of the game itself. In the case of the former it was the failure of the Socceroos to qualify for the World Cup (for future reference pronouns are not always accorded Capitals) for a quarter of a century and the 'gamesmanship' of the Uruguayans themselves. In the case of the latter, it was the rivalry of the Greek population of Australia. It is clear that the excitement of the World Cup qualifier is the exception not the rule, and the Greece match lends creedence to this point. While Soccer may be enjoyable as a sport to participate in, it is not a spectator sport in the same class of say Australian Rules Football. I think most would concur that the hype of Soccer will die down, that it has reached its high-water mark and will go no further. But this is irrelevent to your contention. Despite your fanciful statements and wishful thinking, Soccer will not become the dominant form of football in this country. It is boring, effeminate and relies on factors outside of the game itself for its popularity (i.e. ethnic tensions, national rivalry or territoriality). It lacks the physical skill, courage, determination or pace of other forms of football, and will remain the bastion of the weak and the ethnic for many years to come. But this is my personal view, and again irrelevent, because reality speaks for itself. Perhaps the most appropriate statement regarding the debate, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." If in Australia Football means Aussie Rules or Rugby Leage then so be it. If Soccer overtakes these sports in terms of popularity then you are at liberty to do so. But any amount of whinging or obstinance will not change the current state of affairs. Ergo, pull your head in and bide your time. You idiot, go play a game of proper Football and become a man, you fucking weak piece of shit. -Blacks

Article Titles[edit]

Hey, you might want to check out the Manual of Style. Usually nothing else apart from the name of the article is bolded in the first sentence of that article, and bolding is used sparingly otherwise. Cheers. Cursive 18:53, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem - the bolded ones there are generally alternative names for that page (i.e. lots of people will call Liverpool F.C. just good old Liverpool and the FA Premier League is also called the Barclays Premiership). I think it's generally accepted (and probably on that Manual of Style page somewhere as well) that each of the alternative names would also be bolded. Cursive 19:04, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. :) --Executive.koala 19:06, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Football[edit]

We just revert it as being irrelevant to the topic (your edit summary was great). If it continues we might have to bring other people into it though. Cursive 13:51, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - he's clearly pushing the AFL being the best and owning the word football, and putting wikilinks in when they're not relevant. You are right that it is detrimental to the Football project here, but he's really wasting a lot of his own time on it. Cursive 14:07, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure about Shelia's Wogs and Poofters (I am ashamed to say I haven't got my hands on a copy of this yet). Hard to know whether the book itself is notable in the grand scheme of things though it definately belongs in his article Cursive 00:56, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sliat_1981 here. No one owns the word football in this country. Wheither it be Aussie Rules, Soccer or Rugby. But that doesn't mean one can not be referred to as Football because one has had a name change wheither it be Aussie Rules Association or Rugby. It's a matter of choice. They're all football in their own right.

The fact that you are arguing the toss over it means it is controversial. Jealousy is POV one person might be jealous and another might not give a toss. Jooler 12:09, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it mentioned? This line... In Australia, the governing body's renaming and increased usage of "football" rather than "soccer" has caused controversy as the word has traditionally been used to refer to Australian rules football or rugby league ...doesn't need to be there.

traditionally been used to refer to by who? the press? Aussie Rules players? Who? Football people called it football already and now the majority of the mainstream press calls it football. Why is it even mentioned? --Executive.koala 12:18, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not true. An overwhelming majority of the mainstream media refers to the game as soccer. They have to because no one would know what kind of "football" they were talking about. Even SBS news presenters (if not SBS sports presenters) often say "soccer". Grant65 | Talk 22:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop changing Football (Soccer) to football, it is misleading. I am resisting the temptation to change it to Soccer, and you should resist the temptation to change it to Football. Xtra 06:30, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sliat 1981[edit]

Why are you reverting all Sliat 1981's contributions and calling them vandalism. Please read wikipedia:Assume good faith. Xtra 11:20, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sliat 1981[edit]

I do not run sockpuppets. I can see things on my watchlist. However, you have not answered my question. Please read Wikipedia:Assume good faith. Xtra 11:24, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not wasting your time. I am pointing out to you that such edit summaries will not be tollerated without justifications. Your dispute with Sliat 1981 seems more like a content dispute than trolling by Sliat 1981. Sliat 1981 appears to have made quite a few useful contributions and as such it is bad form to discribe him as a troll. On that point, please also see wikipedia:Civil. If you have a dispute, try and settle it in a more constructive manner. Xtra 11:39, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Xtra here. Sliat's changes are bad form, and could be considered a violation of WP:POINT (it's why I've not been tolerating them either). But they're not vandalism — vandalism has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia, and diluting that meaning by squinting a bit and engaging in rules-lawyering ("y'know, technically this could be considered vandalism ...") is very silly indeed. Further, there is no evidence that Xtra is running a sockpuppet, and I'll thank you not to throw around accusations like that in the future. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 12:14, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
actually Sliat 1981 is a vandal. Twice that I know of he has removed comments I have left on other peoples talk pages as he did not like what I was saying. To be honest, his constant edits changing "Australia" to "Socceroos" is getting very tiresome.Tancred 08:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's wiki-lawyering, and I'll thank you not to keep it up. Vandalism is vandalism, mere childishness is mere childishness, and a 1983 Holden Commodore is a 1983 Holden Commodore ... even if you squint a bit and attempt to "read between the lines" as much as possible ... fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 02:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, fair enough, EK. Sockpuppet accusations are very easy to throw, very hard to prove, and even harder to live down ... so a lot of Wikipedians are over-sensitive to that sort of thing. You'll note that neither I nor Xtra got the joke. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 02:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

image deletion[edit]

G'day EK,

I've deleted the FootballWest image, but I can't delete Image:Brisbane Strikers Logo.gif, because it's not actually a file on Wikipedia (the image description page is automatically generated) — it's part of Wikimedia Commons, which is a great place to put free images, but a really silly place to put logos (presumably that's why you want the image deleted), and coincidentally a place where I don't have admin powers.

I don't know the procedure for deleting stuff from Commons, but I will ask a friend who is an admin there to take a look at it for you. As for deletion from Wikipedia, there is a tag — {{db-author}} — that tells admins "yes, I'm the only author, and I want this thing gooooone!". It puts it into the general speedy-deletion category, which is regularly cleaned out by several admins. Cheers, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 09:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Telstra Football Anytime[edit]

Please do not post copyrighted text to Wikipedia. If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GFDL, you can comment to that effect on Talk:Telstra Football Anytime. However, you may want to consider rewriting the content in your own words given the article was contrary to WP:NPOV anyway. Thank you, --cj | talk 08:07, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's still copyright Ek unless you obtain permission to license it under the GFDL. But even then, doesn't it occur to you that the text of press release will almost always be inconsistent with Wikipedia policies? The text you posted was not only copyright, but also POV. You're welcome to write an article for Telstra Football Anytime in your own words from what you deduce from external sources, but please don't copy those sources themselves.--cj | talk 03:12, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:BulleenZebras.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BulleenZebras.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:55, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Executive.koala. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Banner VSF 01.gif) was found at the following location: User:Executive.koala/footy-test. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 05:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:PalmBeachSC.gif[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:PalmBeachSC.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:02, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:EasternSuburbsSC.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:EasternSuburbsSC.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:52, 13 September 2007 (UTC). Fair use rationale for Image:HeidelbergUnited.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HeidelbergUnited.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shell babelfish 00:02, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:HeidelbergUnited.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HeidelbergUnited.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Acfc emblem.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Acfc emblem.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:BD1 Clubs[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:BD1 Clubs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

A tag has been placed on File:MarconiFC.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Got now File:Marconi Stallions.png which is better. Oalexander-En (talk) 06:20, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.

Got a better version now. Thanks for your work anyway. Cheers Oalexander-En (talk) 06:22, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:SheilasWogsPoofters.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:SheilasWogsPoofters.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 11:25, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
