Hi Garion95,

I saw that you'd removed the tags for Fair Use Rationale and Licensing on this image. I believe that there are still some issues.

  • Nothing on the page identifies the copyright holder of the image. (sportslogo.net is not the holder)
  • The use of the Logo tag is part of the answer regarding Fair Use, but there is no detailed Fair Use Rationale on the page.

I've been suggesting that the several folks who have been uploading and using images with this sort of information use something like the following:

User:Soxrock asserts that the limited use of this copyrighted image in Wikipedia articles directly pertaining to it is a fair use of the image, for the following reasons:

  • It is of the logo, helmet or uniform of an NFL team which retains the copyright.
  • It was obtained from the Sportslogos.net website which serves only to collect and archive these images.
  • No free-license alternatives are available that convey the same information.
  • The image is no larger, and of no higher quality, than required for its use in articles.
  • It is used in Wikipedia only for educational purposes and is not used for profit.
  • Its use on Wikipedia does not compete with the copyright holder.
  • Its use on Wikipedia is not expected to decrease the value of the copyright to its holder.

So, I need to calibrate myself, please and would appreciate your advice.

Thanks, Larry --Lmcelhiney 19:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Next Nature

Hello, i've seen you deleted the nextnature entry. It was deleted earlier because of promotional items. The page I put up is not a copy of the earlier deleted page, but a cleaned up definition with all biased and promotional stuff taken out. So I propose to keep this page now. --nextnature (talk) 22:02, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello Garion96,

Ok I took the article to the deletion review. This article was poluted with some self promotional links and then wrongly deleted as non-notable. Multiple publications, conferences have had this subject as a topic and multiple institutions are working on the topic. I've cleaned up the article. Please do not delete but add constructive feedback to make this a good entry. --nextnature (talk) 06:02, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Tom Wishton

Hi there - in asking for more categories for the Tom Wishton article, could you stop removing the categories that ARE there? While I am searching for futher accurate categories, it makes it harder to work on if you keep removing them. If you have a suggestion of how you want this article to be categorized, I'd like to hear. Thanks. Magichands 21:07, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeesh, it makes me look like a real geek when I get the article title wrong. Tom Wishon is what I meant to say. I still don't know the appropriate categories to add, and I'm trying to clear a tasklist..... Magichands 21:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply - perhaps I'm feeling sensitve about this because I have been cranking along for weeks now, determined to categorize every bleeding article. It's possible I will die trying. Magichands 21:22, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

re: Db-authored: Template:Commonscat2R

Hi, do you want to delete What links to Template:Commonscat2R? Since the way you did it, it made articles/categories like Category:Maps by century shown on which the template was used to have a speedy delete tag. Garion96 (talk) 18:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
  • AH-- Oops! Maybe I didn't back to that edit yet, had thought I'd converted all. Thanks much, fixed now. See the revised link above. I was in the middle of modifying Commonscat1A to be the sole template. '!' will do the same thing soon. // FrankB 18:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

American films

Please see User talk:PS2pcGAMER. THanks. And no the template is not to go on every page but the most important films and memebrs of the industry e.g won or nominated for awards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:26, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I have given the criteria. Look what can the harm be in plpacing it at the very foot of the pages if it doesn't have too many tmeplates. Just what is wrong with that? You really disappoint me the both of you at not discussing this with me further, Very disapoointed in you ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 22:59, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I am trying to help not vandalise remember ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 23:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Garion, I guess WP Films stole my heart and I haven't been around the Monty Python area for a while. Thanks for clarifying that your vote goes only for American Cinema. Blofeld tends to take things personally when it comes to AfD's, but actually this is a concern of the project in general. Unfortunately discussion on these templates has been going on in user pages and it's hard to coordinate who does what when and how. If these templates are used wisely they can add to Wikipedia something very useful and motivate/organize growth in less developed areas. I warned against using it in individual film articles, but a start was done in some foreign films and a very positive feedback started coming in. I was just discussing with Blofeld about being extra careful on American cinema, but things went hasty, not entirely by his fault. Of course when we deal with American cinema the scope is huge both in films and in biographies. However if we use the template for all other countries, it could conceivably find some limited useful application here too. We can find some key articles which are in line with other counties' cinemas and limit it there. Anyway glad to cross your path again. Hoverfish Talk 18:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

HI again. Apologies if I sounded a little annoyed its just when I get a general feeling the templates are regarded by many and then I see them all up for deletion you can see why I lost my temper. As I said the US template is too generic and should and was ony intended on award wining/nominated core articles. Of course the US industry is so huge that to put that template on every page would be silly -very much like an NBA template on every basketball player. I would like to see it on the CInema of United States page, Academy Awards and Golden Globes and Oscar winning films/cinema people only. THis also marks the pages as "elite" pages for American film. However on world cinema pages the majority are not well connected or understood and are a very useful tool -it also standardizes the articles by the industry involved making articles flow and seem less alienated. I hoped they would improve an understanding of other cinema in a world in which American cinema dominates. OK amigo? Hey I managed to get WIkiProject Tibet up and running anyway -I have done a lot of work there -a good way to improve that section I think ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 11:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Note I wasnt going to bother with the US template at all and it was the last template created!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 11:35, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Amazing Race pictures...

Can you please tell me why you have removed the imagevio tags from Image:Eric-and-Danielle.jpg and the other images? What is your rationale for believing the images are not copyvio? I was fairly stunned with this... particularly because the images are orphaned because they could not be used within the fair use guidelines. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 03:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

You know I never think I knew that distinction...?! although now you say that it makes sense. I couldn't figure out from the note you left me whether you thought they qualified as fair use or not... but it appears not seeing that you've tagged the images as RFU. Article You Deleted -- Dr. Jonathan Fielding

I recently wrote an article named Jonathan Fielding, however you removed it and now there is no history of it in my Contributions page. The materials I used were provided by Dr. Fielding and were from his standard bio and resume. Ture, some of this is published elsewhere on the web as he is a member of many prestigious organizations which uses some of the bio information to describe him on various web sites. I tried to explain that in the Discussion section, nevertheless you decided to remove the Article as a copyright violation. Dr. Fielding, who is the Director of Public Health for Los Angeles County, has made many contributions to Public Health and has been nationally recognized. I think he deserves an entry in Wikipedia. Can you restore the article, and I will re-write sections so that it is no longer word for word found on other sites (but contain the same information). Best Dr. Strassburg —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mstrassburg (talkcontribs). 11:42, 18 March 2007

I see that you have an entry on my Discussion page regarding this, here is my response to you:

Yes, Dr. Fielding has provided me with the materials including the latest photo. Obviously, he uses this in many places. I am happy to work on a new article, however, I did write a number of sections specifically for Wikipedia and would like to be able to obtain a copy of that. I guess I did not keep a copy, as I never thought something so basic as information from a standard bio written by the owner (Dr. Fielding) would have so many copyright issues. Where can I get a copy of my original article? Thanks Dr. Strassburg Mstrassburg 11:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mstrassburg"

Both Dr. Fielding and I have emailed the Wikimedia Communications Committee indicating that Dr. Fielding is granting permission to use his materials and image. Is it possible to get the article resotred now?

Thanks Marc Mstrassburg

"Wikimedia Communications Committee; Attached is the permission from Dr. Fielding to use his materials (text and image) on the wikipedia article entilted Jonathan_Fielding which was removed due to Copyright violation. Hopefully the article can now be restored as both the article has been removed and all my edits are no longer listed under my User Contributions. Thank you. Dr. Strassburg"

and From Dr. Fielding; "I am writing to confirm that permission is granted to use materials which I created related to my background, resume, biography under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) and which are used in the article Jonathan_Fielding in Wikipedia, as well as my personal image which was uploaded as jfielding001.jpg."

Hello, you deleted this image, which was located on Maracas Beach, and Cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago. Just wondering why it was deleted. It had received the administrative approval previously. Thatopshotta

Just a heads-up that I made a small change in the {{DRV top}} (or {{drt}}) template: the level 4 header, with a (closed) marker, is now part of the template. So any discussion can now be closed by simply replacing the four equal signs on each side of the title into the the template text:

 ====[[Title]]====

is changed to

 {{subst:drt|[[Title]]|Decision}}

which turns into

Title (closed)

Hope that makes closures a bit easier. Comments and questions please here. Take care, trialsanderrors 08:43, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Village pump Talk archive?

Talk archive? – What talk archive?
The removed comments were in my opinion irrelevant to the topic of the talk page, or had been copied/moved to some other place – ok, thinking about it, maybe the question about where to post an announcement and the apology for reverting the pump page were not irrelevant, and Trödel's question too, and maybe some more – ok you are right. But I have restored the minor clean-up I did before you reverted. --83.253.36.136 10:45, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm new here

I'm new to Wikipedia and have added an article that you, apparently, have deleted. I'm just learning this site and before I can create links to other articles, etc the one I'm working on gets deleted... what is the policy on deletions / how long you allow someone to learn the "system" here and get something developed? It's very frustrating... I'm fairly sure that I haven't violated any copyrights, but you seem to think I have... Why is this image questionable? No notation on discussion page. --Merhawie 20:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC) Regarding this image, see the link in the template to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images, specifically tohere. There is no mention on the source site that the images are released under the GFDL or CC license. Garion96 (talk) 22:01, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually I personally contacted the owner of the website and he has agreed to release them under the CC in the way that I presented on the the image. How will I make sure that every admin is aware of this? --Merhawie 22:26, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Send a copy of that e-mail to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org. That way a tag will be placed on the image talk page confirming the release. See Talk:American Association for Laboratory Animal Science for an example of that. Garion96 (talk) 22:33, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
So you are saying I would have to do that on every page where one of his pictures appear?--Merhawie 22:46, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
No, the permission received tag will only be placed on the image page or image talk page, by the person answering the permissions-en e-mail. See for an image example Image:Buffy The Vampire Slayer cast2.jpg, an image I uploaded and where I e-mailed the e-mail exchange to the permissions-en e-mail. There is a place where the ticket number of the OTRS (the permissions-en email) is mentioned. Garion96 (talk) 22:50, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
do you have any recommendations for my situation where I have uploaded MANY pictures from this persons website (he gave me blanket permission). --Merhawie 23:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

It might be courteous to replace the bunny statue with a freely licensed easter bunny drawing instead of orphaning it. Jkelly 19:24, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
