Conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Jonathan Costa. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. – Fayenatic London 20:14, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I note your statement made in an edit summary, "This is an author puzzled with comments stated as being autobiography as this article was not written by Jonathan Costa. The account was created in his name as it was going to be used to create a biography on him."
Thank you for explaining that you set up this account as a single-purpose account intending to write a biography on Jonathan Costa. I trust that you can forgive the assumption that you actually were Jonathan Costa, especially as you wrote this version which has so much about Costa's personal experience and motivation, and you didn't provide any sources apart from the official website and Costa's Facebook profile.
Please see Wikipedia:Changing username if you would rather change to a more independent user name.
Another new editor, Access2013 (talk · contribs), has now also edited the page. As this so far appears to be another SPA, it gives the appearance of being a sock-puppet, which is taken very seriously on Wikipedia; if evidence shows that both accounts are actually operated by the same user, this usually results in one or both accounts being blocked. I'm not jumping to conclusions, just trying to help you avoid pitfalls. – Fayenatic London 16:49, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Jonathan Costa for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jonathan Costa is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jonathan Costa until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. The Banner talk 20:44, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copying[edit]

Hello Gibwork, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Jonathan Costa has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. (For reference: whole sentences had been copied from http://www.zoominfo.com/p/Jonathan-Costa/1839949006 .) Thank you. – Fayenatic London 17:19, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Further note: the same text was also present on other sites e.g. freelancer.co.uk and http://www.gibwork.com/the_team/jonathan-costa/ . The latter may have been the original source. Even if the latter is your own site, it is protected by copyright, and you would have to waive this; frankly it is easier to re-write the information in your own words! – Fayenatic London 17:43, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
