[edit]

Thanks for notifying me. I continue to maintain that the block is fully justified, as Lysdexia has been little more than a trollish pest for many months. She already posted a complaint to the mailing list in such a manner as to prompt almost unanimous agreement with the block (see the November archive; the thread is entitled "disputing block: 69.108.172.162, lysdexia"). [edit]

Well I've been bopping around on your User page some more, and I finally figured out how to get the Templates to display remotely close to what I was looking for (and that got me some more practice with wikimarkup and HTML markup, good times). I hope you like the changes, if you want anything changed I certainly won't be offended. Hope you have a good night, and perhaps I'll talk to you soon. RfA thanks from Deathphoenix

[edit]

Hi Hermione1980,

I just wanted to thank you for supporting me in my RfA. To tell you the truth, I was surprised by all the support I've gotten. I never saw myself as more than an occasional Wiki-hobbyist (probably a little more on the Harry Potter pages, of course).

My wife sends her curses, as Wikipedia will likely suck up more of my time. She jokingly (I think) said she was tempted to log on to Wikipedia just to vote Oppose and let everyone know that she didn't want her husband to be an admin.

I'll make sure your trust in me is founded. I'll definitely see you around on the HP Wikiproject pages! --Deathphoenix 14:23, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A newbies efforts un-undone

[edit]

Wow,

It is close to midnight where I am, and I checked my computer one last time before heading to bed, and (yay) you've made my day! I'm a busy person (as we all are) but I have a feeling I'm going to be slowly sucked into the wikipedia-universe now that I've seen a glimpse. At least when I'm allowed...

You have done it. The original article was not from an existing website except for one exerpt, which shouldn't have been left in by me. So I am fine with the histories being merged, or the old one being replaced, whatever makes sense. Thanks again. --Delzen 06:00, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How to get a page deleted

[edit]

Hi Hermione, I was wondering if you could advise me as to the best way to deal with an article that contains an article that is offensive and obviously made up as a joke. I'd rather have all the content removed rather than be moved to the history, and a Saskatchewan geology stub should probably be put in its place. The article is Elrose, Saskatchewan. --Delzen 03:17, 31 December 2005 (UTC)----[reply]

Harry Potter WikiProject Userboxes

Hi Hermione1980!

I noticed recently the Hogwarts emblem disappeared from the Template:user-hp userbox, however the Slytherin and other house emblems are still present. I, too, noticed your name listed at Esperanza. I know we haven't crossed paths much, but I've always admired you and your work from afar. ArbCom elections

[edit]

Thanks for your vote in the ArbCom elections. My "reluctance to run" seems to have weighed heavier in your mind than in mine, so I just want to give you a slightly fuller explanation (I wanted to keep to 250 words in the opening statement). The reluctance was, as I said, because ArbCom is likely to be an arduous duty and will take away from the time I'm able to spend writing articles. It isn't because I am in any way equivocal about wanting to serve on ArbCom. I enjoy the practice of weighing the evidence and trying to reach consensus, and feel that serving on ArbCom I would be making a very positive contribution to Wikipedia. It occurs that this may be a polite way in which to hide an oppose vote based on other reasons, and if this is so then I accept that you are perfectly entitled to oppose for any reason which causes you problems, but I just thought I should explain in case there has been a misunderstanding. HBP

[edit]

Hello, Hermione1980. You just did a MAJOR delete from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince article. You said "Missing text - this is one of the most unencyclopedic sections I've seen since before the book came out. Wikipedia is not a fan forum." Ok, what's the problem? I read the section you deleted and I find nothing "fan form' about it. The information -- about some parts being censored out, clearly would be pertinent to the article; and is not a fan forum. I consider this a fact that clearly should be covered in the article -- I am still fuming over the deletions. What is your objection? -- Jason Palpatine 00:04, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the text because it has to do with speculation. If you don't like the reason "Wikipedia is not a fan forum", there's also "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball". There are things in the British versions that are not in the American versions, and we don't feel the need to include those. I don't think the fact that there is some text missing in the British edition is of particular interest to non-hardcore fans, which is why I gave the reason I gave, and the last paragraph was both poorly written and unencyclopedic, being speculative in nature.
I'm sorry you are 'fuming', but if you feel my answer is not satisfactory, feel free to post a message at Talk:Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. HTH HAND - Hermione1980 00:24, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am fuming over the deletions from the novel, not your actions here. Curious and interesting. Thanks for the info. -- Jason Palpatine 01:42, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Speculation Template?

[edit]

I was thinking perhaps it would be useful if some Wiki-admins of great Wiki-skill (I'm thinking perhaps you, Beowulf314159, and Deathphoenix) could work together and create a "speculation" warning template - ie

or

or something like that - which would theoretically be used on such wiki-pages as those that tend to attract a lot of rampant fan speculation. It could work much like the "spoiler" template - but alert readers and editors that "the following information is speculative", but is at least reasonable, supported by existing authentic text, or widely believed by concensus - something on those lines.

Some speculation items that seem reasonably probable (eg: In "Book Seven", Harry and his Hogwarts friends are expected to hunt down and attempt to destroy the remaining Horcrux(es), before Harry's final confrontation with Voldemort), or the list of known and "probable" horcruxes that were specifically mentioned by Dumbledore or otherwise in the text, would be allowed. Other posts that are clearly fanatical, agenda-driven speculation (eg: Harry is a horcrux, Harry's scar is a horcrux, Harry's wand is a horcrux, Neville's Toad is a horcrux, etc etc etc.) would be dismissed as having no foundation or supporting evidence in the existing texts, validated interviews, etc. Anything permitted as "authenticate" speculation (yes, I know it is oxymoronic) should have some kind of "chapter and verse" authority, or other reasonably conclusive evidence that anyone could recognize as reasonable.

At least it might help keep some of the random speculation, that keeps randomly and anonymously popping up, "corralled" in a smaller area for consideration. Or perhaps this is a terrible and counterproductive idea... --T-dot 01:08, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,
