Hurricane Ignacio (1979)

Hi, Jeffrey Gu (mind if I call you JG for short). Nice job on the Hurricane Ignacio (1979). However, the article is short and could be merged into the season article. With that said, they are many other storms are the world that can get articles, for suggestions, see WP:WPTC/R. If you want something in 1979 (in case you like the year), Hurricane Andres (1979) might have just enough info for a full-fledged article. A much better idea for an article would be Hurricane Hernan (1996) or Hurricane Doreen (1977). Outside of the East Pacific, I'd suggest looking here. Cheers and happy editing. Heads Up

You can become an administrator by following these instructions, but you'll probably not become an admin. As for protection, you can get rid of it by requesting it here. Admins are extremely trusted users with typically thousands of edits, and months - sometimes even years - of editing. That's why they are trusted with the tools. The rule is in place because gallery's clutter pages with images and could make the prose difficult to read, so I guess part of it is due to safety reasons. And yes, Hurricane Eugene (2011) got deleted since it was poorly written. YE ^{Pacific Hurricane}

Is Hurricane Noel (2001) deleted, too? Because I remember in 2009 there's an article on Noel, but not now. And on the history page of Noel does not have any history for it.

Well, pages that should be merged are low-quality articles on storms that didn't do much of anything. However, since we already have that criteria, there aren't any more articles left to merge. Everything that's left is here for a reason. Some might be debatable, in which case you'd bring up a discussion on the talk page, but even that has already been done for most of the borderline ones. For the best way to improve Wikipedia, you should focus on improving existing articles, instead of creating new ones or merging. Check out a storm like Tropical Storm Allison (1989). Or, you can make sub-articles for existing retired storms on a particular area. There are still a lot of those articles that can be made, such as Effects of Hurricane Floyd in North Carolina, Effects of Hurricane Ivan in Florida, or Effects of Hurricane Ike in Louisiana. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:21, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Merging has been debated here for years, but as Hurricanehink said, a better way to improve Wikipedia's coverage on tropical cyclone's is by improving existing articles. Hurricane Bonnie (1986), Hurricane Danny (1985), Hurricane Bill (2009), Hurricane Erin (1995) or Hurricane Jerry (1989) might be good options here. YE ^{Pacific Hurricane}

Not a bad job on Ruby! I'm glad to see you working on a notable storm. The main problem with the article (and which no you need to address to make sure it doesn't get deleted) is that it needs sources. If you're having trouble with sources, here is the 1988 report from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center with a compete section on Ruby. This page from the Hong Kong Observatory indicates there were four injuries in Hong Kong, and here is the same agency's yearly report. Try doing a simple Google search for info on the typhoon. It was reasonably notable, and it wasn't that long ago. Be sure everything in the article is cited, however. When you have a paragraph of information from a certain source, simply put <ref> and </ref> around that link, like this: . Hope that helps! --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:37, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Articles

Hey, can you try and improve the existing articles you've made before continuing to make new ones? I'm glad you're giving attention to articles in the western Pacific, but most of the articles you've made are borderline stubs. Take Typhoon Bart (1999) for example. It's a good start, but there's much more information out there. The meteorological history should be expanded to two paragraphs using the JTWC information as well as an independent summary of the storm by Gary Padgett. Also, I'm not sure if you heard, but we have a Project resources page that has tons of links that should help expand any article. Try using Google news for some news articles on the storm. Given how recent it was, and how populated of a region it hit, you should be able to find some good info. Lastly, be sure that when you're sourcing, the reference covers all of the preceding information. In Bart's article, you mention a damage total, but the source provided doesn't mention anything about a damage total.

I'll give you a hand if you want, but I highly suggest you focus on the articles you've made so far before you make any more new ones. I'm glad to see you writing on important storms though! :) --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:06, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

One more thing. The WPTC agreed that we shouldn't use knots in articles, as the public doesn't use that at all. Instead, convert it to km/h and mph (if it's outside of the NOAA basins). Again, please go back and fix up some of your previous articles before making new ones. The 1979 Canada Subtropical Storm article, in particular, probably shouldn't exist. It didn't do anything! 3 inches of rain is nothing (and, btw, that's unsourced). Also, please make sure that when you upload images, you include where you got the image from. The word "notable" is a highly debatable subject on Wikipedia, and saying that a storm was "notable" just because it made landfall in the Cape Verde Islands or caused flooding isn't always the case. If the storm featured a high amount of damage or deaths, then of course it gets an article. However,Felix is a not a "notable" storm, and does not merit an article. Hurricane Hernan

Hello Jeffrey Gu, I saw that you attempted to re-create Hurricane Hernan (1996) and that is was under threat of being merged, like your other articles. Since I had a desire to create that storm, I took the liberty to "save" that article from being merged. As you can see, I greatly expanded all sections of the article, using information I found here: [2]. You can NOT make templates like that Jeffrey Gu, that in itself could you get you blocked. Just because you don't like for a storm to get merged, that doesn't mean it isn't going to. No, you can't decide what articles can stay or not. Jeffrey, you really have to read up on Wiki policy. You can't just make a template and say people will be blocked if an article is merged. Please see WP:NOT, WP:NOTABILITY, WP:5P, and so on. Your edits have become borderline disruptive. If you make an article, you should read the bottom of the edit window, where it says:

By clicking the "Save Page" button, you agree to the Terms of Use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL.

If you create an article and there's no chance for expansion (not to mention it's poorly written), then it will be merged or deleted. Furthermore, please don't create any new templates that suggest that people could be blocked or anything of the matter. Again, that is disruptive. I removed that source. Nothing indicates that image was public domain or that it was from the US government. Other countries have satellite images. Regarding Pamela's article, please finish it. First, the source you provided about the retirement says nothing about Pamela being retired and replaced with Peggy. Second, there is no need for a sub-section when there is only one sentence. Third, you need to actually include impact content in the article. Again, compare how you did Typhoon Ida (1958) with how it is now. You have to do some actual research. Go on Google, use Google news, and ask for help. There is plenty of information available on Pamela. None of them are all that notable. Olivia is debatable, since it wasn't the storm itself that caused the damage, but rather the combination of a few storms (like October 1983 Southwest United States floods). Regarding your block.

I had blocked your IP for 10 days because of vandalism originating from it, for which you are responsible.
