Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on ISBN 978-0307388360 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. A tag has been placed on File:Domnica Radulescu portrait 2016.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Semaphorecomputing. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Domnica Radulescu, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Your account name also suggests that you are editing as the company "Semaphore Computing". This is not permitted. Account names must identify as an personal individual. Escape Orbit (Talk) 10:17, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your message. As you correctly deduced I am the administrator for Domnica Radulescu's website and she asked me to update her Wikipedia page with her latest publicity photograph (in the public domain to publicise her work) and her latest publications, information taken from Amazon, which itself is taken from the covers of the works concerned. How do we resolve this, it seems, from your exhaustive list, that only third persons unknown to the subject can update her page and that similarly her publisher and publicist are included in this and would be unable to update the page?
By disclosing my 'conflict' of interest, her being my client, does this resolve the issue, since I am only acting as the vehicle for amending the page with information already in the public domain?
With regard to my account name, 'Semaphore Computing' is my one-man company, so the name relates just to me. Likewise, I guess your real name is not Mr Escape Orbit.
Appreciate your thoughts on how to move this forward, thanks. 86.215.38.254 (talk) 08:10, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. In answer to your questions;
  • You must disclose you are being paid and may not directly edit the page. Follow the instructions here. No matter how good your intents, being paid to edit an article makes it difficult for you to edit the article in a neutral manner.
  • You may suggest edits to the article on the article talk page
  • Regardless of being a one-person company, company names are not appropriate account names. You should request a name change.
  • The best thing you could do for the article is use the list of reviews that I removed to suggest where currently unsourced content could be cited. For instance, a review of a book in a reliable source could be used to cite details about the book in the article. If you could do that on the talk age, I'd be happy to add these to the article. The fact that the book has been reviewed is not very significant in itself, unless by a notable authority/expert, but the review can certainly act as a source for a cite that verifies the book was published and what it is about. It would also be possible to include small quotes from the review, if properly attributed.
Thanks.--Escape Orbit (Talk) 09:19, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, she has a book launch event tomorrow (Sunday) and wanted to be able to refer people to her Wikipedia page but at the moment it looks a mess. What can be done short term to tidy this up before moving forward and addressing the issues you raised. Can you just remove my most recent additions, if neccessary? Much appreciated, thanks 86.215.38.254 (talk) 10:45, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure you are logged in when you post(you will need to tell us a new username to rename this account to as instructed below). It is not a "Wikipedia page" but a Wikipedia article about her. This is an important distinction. Wikipedia has no interest in aiding public relations efforts. Our only interest is in summarizing independent reliable sources. You are welcome to propose edits as edit requests(click for instructions) but there are no deadlines here; your requests will be handled by volunteers when they have time and a willingness to handle them. 331dot (talk) 10:13, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, are you now in a position to remove the 'conflict of interest' tag on the Domnica Radulescu page? Others seem unwilling to do so, and it was you that placed it there. Hopefully the issues concerned have now been addressed, if not, please let me know what more needs to be done to have it removed. Ian at Semaphore (talk) 10:21, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a matter of others necessarily being unwilling, this is a volunteer effort and someone needs to be able to have the time to look at it. Wikipedia has no deadlines and we are not concerned with publicity efforts for Ms. Radulescu.
I would ask you if you personally took the image of her; it appears to be a professionally taken image. 331dot (talk) 10:27, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate your assistance on this. No, I didn't personally take the picture, I'm not a professional photographer. Ian at Semaphore (talk) 10:56, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Typically, the photographer holds the copyright to the image and must be the one to upload it, unless you have a contract assigning yourself the copyright(which would be unusual). You either need to show that the photographer released the image under a copyright compatible with Wikipedia, or you need to request deletion of the image from Commons and have the photographer upload it themselves. 331dot (talk) 11:02, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll get the relevant information and add that. Ian at Semaphore (talk) 11:05, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How do I add the following information to address this (the photographer does not have a Wikipedia account to do this himself).
"To whom it may concern,
Domnica Radulescu shares the copyright to all of the photos that I have taken of her. She can use them however she sees fit.
Kevin Remington, University Photographer, Washington and Lee University" Ian at Semaphore (talk) 08:44, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you may just follow the instructions at Donating copyrighted materials, specifically under the section "Donating your photographs". If the photo is online elsewhere, you would need to follow the process under WP:DONATEIMAGE. 331dot (talk) 08:58, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. 331dot (talk) 10:11, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While you declared a COI, you need to make the stricter paid editing disclosure, a Terms of Use requirement. 331dot (talk) 10:15, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

{{paid|employer=Semaphore Computing Ltd represented by Ian at Semaphore|client=Domnica Radulescu}} An employee of Semaphore Computing Ltd, who are paid by the subject of this page, the author Domnica Radulescu, to design, edit, maintain and host her personal website, have also been requested by the subject to perform modifications and additions to her Wiki Page. These modifications and additions are solely concerned with listing works which are in the public domain and excepts from the work and/or reviews of the works, also in the public domain. There is no specific conflict to interest to the benefit of either party in this, merely to ensure the page is complete and up to date in a timely manner. 86.215.38.254 (talk) 11:03, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note that you are logged out again; you may now log in with your new username(the password will be the same). The template that you are attempting to use is meant for article talk pages; you may use it there and replace the COI one you had, but you will need to remove the "nowiki" tags you have around it, this prevents proper display. There is a different template to use for your user page, see WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 11:09, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
