Question about uploading images[edit]

If I wanted to upload an image to wikimedia commons, and it was previously uploaded to flickr with Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike, is that allowed? Are there any consequences to uploading something from flickr compared to somewhere else on the internet?

Sure, something that's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike would be acceptable on Commons so long as you give credit to the uploader on Flickr (usually with a link). The only other consideration is that there are some tools that might make it easier to do the transfer, for example Flickr2Commons. Hope this helps! Help![edit]

I am currently researching how to create my first article. I have found countless guides and helpful sites, but I'm wondering what to read. On CAT:HOWTO, there is a table called "Wikipedia Help Pages". Inside the table, there are 19 articles in the third row down called "Contributing to Wikipedia". Are these 19 articles a good place to start? Jwstanly (talk) 19:43, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd forgotten how many guide pages we have. Yes, they're a good place, some are better than others but you'll soon figure out which are relevant to you. WP:YFA is normally useful. THE most important thing - it's imperative to make a credible assertion of notability right at the start and to supply a number of reliable independent references. Also, emulate, to some extent, what happens in other articles. I'll leave this help request open for the next person to offer any other blindingly helpful links. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:22, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Your first article is included as one of the many articles, but it is towards the end of the list. Do you think I could just skip to it and disregard the others? And yes, the subject I want to write an article for is definitely notable (I was shocked to find there isn't one on this already). One more question- is this a/the proper way to ask for help? Thanks for the help, it means a lot! Jwstanly (talk) 20:33, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say disregard, maybe browse. You're not expected to read it all - there's really too many instructions and probably a lot of repetition. YFA offers some good advice, but also offers the 'article wizard' and 'article for creation' processes which are frankly a bit optional. And yes, using the {{helpme}} template, here, is what it's for. This places you in a category (see bottom of page) which some random helpful editors browse. There's also the Help Desk and The Teahouse for asking questions. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:51, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
