Style notes
[edit]Hi. Just a few notes. First, it is good to use a edit summary when contributing, it helps us understand what you are doing. Second, one writes
==External links==
instead of
===External Links===
(so lowercase L and == instead of ===). Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 22:40, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
More style notes
[edit]Also, one should not insert newlines within paragraphs, they don't look good in the text, as you can see here. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 22:43, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I've reverted your addition to this article twice now; as far as I can tell, your text has nothing to do with the Monty Hall problem. Mightn't it be more in place in the Three Prisoners Problem article?
While I'm at it, please don't flag non-trivial edits like that one minor; that predicate is reserved for link fixes, typo and grammar corrections etc. Also, please fill in an edit summary next time. I see you've been asked this before—it really helps your fellow contributors to see at a glance what your intention is. Phaunt 22:55, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Please discuss this addition at Talk:Monty Hall problem#Reference to Bayesian solution of Three Prisoner's Problem. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Hi Kvihill. So, just a note, any disagreements over any Wikipedia article are better discussed on that article's discussion page (talk page). The discussion page is accessible via a tab on the top of any article (next to 'history' and 'edit'). I put the Daniel Pearl article on my watchlist, and will try to keep an eye on it. You can write on my talk page (User talk:Oleg Alexandrov) if there's anything you need help with. E-mail contact is also fine, via Special:Emailuser/Oleg_Alexandrov. All the best, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 02:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- I moved the text you added to Talk:Daniel Pearl to the bottom of that page, in a new section, which I titled "A note on captions". Feel free to rename the section to better reflect to what you want to say. I did the move because new discussion should start at the bottom in new sections. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 18:22, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
after discussion(s)
[edit]hi oleg- thank you for your helpful suggestions. can you tell us how long to wait to post an edit to an article after posting to discussion? do we wait for your approval (as watch) or how does it work? kind regards, Kvihill 21:22, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- There are no formal rules. You could wait a day or two and then perform the edit. You could state in the edit summary that the edit is explained on the talk page. That may lead towards a discussion, hopefully, rather than towards an argument or a revert war. Let's see how it goes. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 01:34, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, you can reply right here, on this page, to keep all conversation on a single page. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 01:34, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- oleg - how do i ask someone to contact at a personal email w/o posting the actual address for all to see? talk makes it public, right? thanks, Kvihill 20:21, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you want to contact a Wikipedian by email, which I think is what you are asking, you can visit that Wikipedian's user page and click on the "E-mail this user" link under the "search" box on the left.
- But, in order to do that, you have to change your preferences to "Enable e-mail from other users", and also specify there your own email. With that, the "E-mail this user" feature makes it possible for you to send email without anybody seeing either the email or your email address, except for the recipient you intend. Let me know if you need further clarifications. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 23:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Your recent edits on Mediation_(statistics) appear to be at least a partial copyright violation and are poorly formatted. EvergreenFir (talk) 22:37, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
These edits were given by Prof. Judea Pearl and he gives copyright for these postings. How does he officially authorize? Please specifically point out where formatting improvements are needed and we will correct. Thank you. Kvihill (talk) 22:54, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Pearl's causality blog link (http://www.mii.ucla.edu/causality/?page_id=2) now has the statement, "The material posted on this blog can be quoted or re-posted anywhere with no copyright restrictions." Please stet the last contribution. Kvihill (talk) 17:57, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
"I am re-posting the section and I hope you have no objections to it -- a copyright release is posted on the source website. I hope that we can bring this post-remove cycle to some convergence. I have not seen the formatting objections that you have. This new section is an innocent attempt to inform readers of one of the most important advances in mediation analysis in the past decade. It is hard to understand if/why you want Wikipedia to suppress it." Judea Pearl Kvihill (talk) 18:17, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi there! Sorry I did not see your message. I am not extremely familiar with Wikipedi'a procedure on copyright donations, but you can read about it here: WP:DCM. I will ask an admin, Moonriddengirl, who works on copyright issues to come assist in this matter. The edit in question is [1] where Kvihill has used material from Prof. Judea Pearl's academic blog post at http://www.mii.ucla.edu/causality/?cat=4. As Kvihill noted above, Prof. Pearl wishes to release copyright of the material and has expressed such on their blog. See also the edit history on Mediation (statistics). Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) 23:10, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, User:Kvihill. :) If you are in touch with Pearl, can you please ask him to use the following language?
- The text of this website [or page, if you are specifically releasing one section] is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts).
- I'm afraid what he has right now does not mention the right to modify the material, and modification is required under our license. This language will eliminate all copyright concerns. Pending a usable license, the material has been removed for now. Sorry for the complication, but as this is a legal matter it's important that the compatibility of the license be clear. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:37, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, User:Kvihill. :) If you are in touch with Pearl, can you please ask him to use the following language?
Hi, User:EvergreenFir. I will forward this message to Prof. Pearl and ask him about making the necessary change. I will let you know of any action. Thank you. 75.83.19.205 (talk) 23:05, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi User:EvergreenFir and User:Moonriddengirl - usable copyright posted at bottom of http://www.mii.ucla.edu/causality/?p=713 Kvihill (talk) 17:47, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've added the necessary templates to the talk page and the article. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:14, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you Moonriddengirl and Kvihill! EvergreenFir (talk) 21:47, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:Ruth-pearl-white-house-hanukkah-dec2007.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ruth-pearl-white-house-hanukkah-dec2007.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}}
(to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 17:45, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ruth-pearl-white-house-hanukkah-dec2007.jpeg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Ruth-pearl-white-house-hanukkah-dec2007.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://thejewishnews.com/2021/08/05/ruth-pearl-mother-of-murdered-journalist-daniel-pearl-dies-at-85/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 19:49, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
