Removal of dates

[edit]

@LionCountry25: Hello. I understand that you're a new editor on Wikipedia and seem to be eager to get on with the work, can I please, please ask you to stop removing dates from articles in a completely random manner. I say 'random', since you've now removed several dates from the infoboxes of politicians, giving no explanation of why you're doing so and no inclination to remove any other dates in the infobox. Almost all these dates are on the website of the Sri Lankan parliament, and the dates are usually not cited one by one. Please do not make such mass page edits without consulting the community at WikiProject Sri Lanka. - ක - (talk) 14:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Actually i'm not new. I was part of Wikipedia few years ago. The reason for the date removal was because those dates actually have no source to back up and actually was added by myself when I was on wikipedia in the past. There was this massive debate about this 3 years go on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sri Lanka/Archive 3 (Sri Lankan Politics Conventions) we argued about this with no conclusion and the fact we cannot assume facts. Also the reason I removed the suffix from some politicians was because they not MP's currently. I did check this against former overseas politicians like Winston Churchill - LionCountry25 (talk) 01:20, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The MP thing is fine. The dates, regardless of the decision reached, are verifiable now from an official source, and so shouldn't be removed. Turns out you were right when you added the dates, haha. - ක - (talk) 02:22, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, sure thing. Can you point that source to me so I can update from now? - LionCountry25 (talk) 02:52, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't see this until now- the link in question is this. - ක - (talk) 09:57, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Rohan Pallewatta is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rohan Pallewatta until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Saqib (talk) 17:10, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple accounts

[edit]

Welcome back! I am aware that you have a number of accounts on Wikipedia and also edit whilst logged out. In order to be transparent please comply with WP:MULTIPLE and disclose them. Otherwise I will be forced to deal with them as WP:SOCKING.--Obi2canibe (talk) 16:25, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The onus is on you, as the editor who created this article. to provide reliable sources to back up your additions. Instead you expect me to provide sources to prove a negative. It's a shame you didn't grow up during the time you were absent. Anyway, I've done the work for you. You're welcome.--Obi2canibe (talk) 20:29, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you need to calm down, and saying that I actually removed the word unregistered since it is not something that needs to be mentioned in the very first sentence. Plus I did give evidence of the party! Thanks for pointing out that it is not RECOGNISED! according to the election commission, that doesn't mean it's not registered! They might have have a reason like it is not been update. Plus stop looking for a reason to fight with people all the time please!! make more meaningful use of your time!! - LionCountry25 (talk) 12:47, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It needed to be mentioned because you gave a party symbol that wasn't officially recognised. Party symbols are legally controlled and only registered parties can have them. Yes, I use registered as opposed to recognised because that is the word WP:RS use (see this).--Obi2canibe (talk) 23:05, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I wasn’t sure about the symbol either until I saw an article that I have linked to the page. That is the only reason to mention it - LionCountry25 (talk) 06:24, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Honourifics Comment

[edit]

Firstly using just because without looking/applying at the relevant policies is not really a valid arguement. Secondly the policy on use of honourifics, which states “The honorific titles Sir, Dame, Lord and Lady are included in the initial reference and infobox heading for the subject of a biographical article, but are optional after that. The infobox heading includes pre-nominals, name and post-nominals as separate elements.”. As previously stated Sir is not part of an individual’s name but an honourific suffix. Dan arndt (talk) 10:55, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to use the conventions other wikipedians use in well formed articles such as Winston Churchill even though I am fully aware that it is part of their name. If those articles change I am happy to change them because I want to have some consistency! Plus stop changing the prefix to something that is completely unnecessary such as The Honourable >> Hon. this is not necessary at all as it is the formal way of saying it and yet again i'd prefer to have some consistency with well formed articles and would prefer to use the general way of doing it!! This is not a declaration of war between you and me like I mentioned I want consistency so it would not look odd! - LionCountry25 (talk) 16:01, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia Manual of Style guidelines are fairly specific on this issue, a tutor such as Sir is not part of an individual‘s name. If you continue to flaunt the policies by reverting legitimate changes I will have to report these incidents. Dan arndt (talk) 16:05, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I'm happy to oblige once it is sorted! - LionCountry25 (talk) 16:07, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good so I’ll take you’ll comply with the policy requirements then. Dan arndt (talk) 16:10, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure more than happy to, and yet again plus stop changing the prefix to something that is completely unnecessary such as The Honourable >> Hon. this is not necessary at all as it is the formal way of saying it and yet again i'd prefer to have some consistency with well formed articles
So are you intending to continue to breach adopted Wikipedia policies by including an individual’s title as part of his given name when clearly it’s not. Dan arndt (talk) 16:35, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How am I the person breaking the rule when there are than 100s of articles that has done so plus I did say i'd be more than happy to oblige by the rules ones you have sorted out the big articles!! and you haven't answered my question regarding the prefixes!! stop changing the prefix to something that is completely unnecessary such as The Honourable >> Hon. this is not necessary at all as it is the formal way of saying it and yet again i'd prefer to have some consistency with well formed articles - LionCountry25 (talk) 17:55, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
