[edit]

Hi, I'm Cornellier. Mary Urashima, thanks for creating Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach, California!

Just a hint: External links (those going to internet sites) should not be in the body of the article. They would best be used as references or in the "External links" section at the bottom. Per WP:EL, "Wikipedia articles may include links to web pages outside Wikipedia (external links), but they should not normally be placed in the body of an article. All external links must conform to certain formatting restrictions." Best, Bahooka (talk) 17:46, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A page you started (Newland House) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Newland House, Mary Urashima!

Wikipedia editor Aguyintobooks just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Including some references for 'William T. Newland' would improve the article, half the article is currently a unsourced biography.

To reply, leave a comment on Aguyintobooks's talk page.

Control copyright icon Hello Mary Urashima, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Newland House have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:01, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

COI

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mary Urashima. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID). Thank you. 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 22:38, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am the historian and author of the history; the subject matter expert for this nationally recognized historic site. I do this as a volunteer. I am providing citations from outside media, official city documents, or recognized institutions (e.g. museums). I'll check and remove citations to the website (non profit historical website on the history and preservation). ~MFU

[edit]

Rather than acknowledge COI, you're editing full-steam ahead. I'm issuing another warning below. Thank you.

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. 2601:188:180:11F0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 23:36, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I am trying to fix the concerns.

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you blank out or remove content from Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach, California. -NottNott|talk 23:59, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

June 2020

[edit]

Copyright problem icon Your addition to Orange County Historical Society (Orange County, California) has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. — Diannaa (talk) 15:14, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Orange County Historical Society article is created on behalf of the non-profit organization by non-compensated volunteers. There is text consistent with the text used on their website because it has been vetted and approved by their board of directors. The removal of the public mission statement for the non-profit historical society does not make sense.

The content that appears to have been removed provided information about their historical archives, publications and programs. As there was a request to add more outside sources, those were added with citations dating back almost a century. I appreciate that Wikipedia needs to protect the integrity of content and avoid copyright issues. However, removing sub headings does not make sense.

We will attempt to add content and citations that meets Wikipedia criteria. It is also hoped that you recognize this is for a legitimate non-profit historical society with no malintent. The proof of license and permission for the use of their own material, which the historical society wishes to be used, will be addressed per donating copyrighted materials guidelines. Hello, Mary Urashima

Thank you for creating Lydia D. Killefer School.

User:Usernamekiran, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi. Thanks for creating the article. Kindly take a look at similar articles from same fields for comparison. I have already made some changes to the article. If possible, kindly create talkpage with relevant wikiproject banners. In this case, you should be looking for articles for schools from California. eg: John F. Kennedy High School (La Palma, California). Thanks again. See you around :)

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Usernamekiran}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

Hello usernamekiran, Thank you for your comments on the Lydia D. Killefer School article. I'll read up on creating a talk page and and review similar pages, and then work on that. I added another relevant category for the National Register of Historic Places (thank you for adding the categories!). Again, thank you for your time reviewing this article. I'll be working on adding more content and sources. Mary Urashima (talk) 18:52, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Mary Urashima[reply]
