Welcome

[edit]

Hi I just noticed your edit on Nikolai Marr, and am glad to see that there's someone else here who has knowledge of the Caucasus. I'm also familiar with the region, Georgia (and Abkhazia) in particular, and would also say that if you are interested in talking with others with interests in the regions, there are WikiProjects (groups focused on specific topics) for all three South Caucasus countries (though I can't say how active they are): Wikipedia:WikiProject Armenia, Wikipedia:WikiProject Azerbaijan, Wikipedia:WikiProject Georgia (country). I also will note it's one of my long-term projects to expand the Marr article, and if you have anything to contribute to it please do, as linguistics is certainly not one of my stronger fields. And if you have any questions or anything feel free to reach out, I'll be happy to assist. Kaiser matias (talk) 20:39, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the welcome message! I am still learning my way around Wikipedia, locating articles on topics I know something about and adding references or footnotes. I do not yet feel ready to add new content or create new pages. As for Marr, it would appear from the Wiki page that you already know quite a bit about him and his Japhetic theory, but if you haven't already, you should look at the work of Patrick Sériot -- he used to direct a sort of research laboratory in Lausanne on Soviet linguistic theories, with a special focus on Marr. Thank you for the encouragement to look at the Projects page. If I see anything that needs minor improvement I will do that when I have available time. Should I decide that the time has come for me to create a new Caucasus-themed article, I will let you know beforehand & solicit your advice. Have a good weekend!--Mephagote (talk) 19:53, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, well I look forward to seeing how you can help improve things. The Caucasus as a whole is definitely under-served here (as in the real world), so any constructive help will be much appreciated. And thanks for the tip on the source on Marr, I'll be sure to take a look. Kaiser matias (talk) 01:19, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Evdokia Kozhevnikova

[edit]

On 17 September 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Evdokia Kozhevnikova, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that although she never finished her dissertation, the fieldwork of Soviet ethnologist Evdokia Kozhevnikova (pictured) provides a valuable record of the culture and the language of the Georgian province of Svaneti? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Evdokia Kozhevnikova. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Evdokia Kozhevnikova), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thanks for the notification about featuring the Kozhevnikova article on the front page. I just informed her grandson in Georgia, who will pass on the news to her family. Mephagote (talk) 12:18, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
