Reversion of ancestry section

I understand that the tree was incomplete but unnecessary? Surely not. The family tree is of high importance and relevance in a person’s wikipedia article, especially one of royalty. I will try to complete the tree but please give a reason why it was ‘unnecessary’. Willbb234 (talk) 17:17, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

Mes Meilleurs (quoi ?)

Hey, Why is your name « MyBestOnes »? Thanks!

Hello, 37.164.87.48. My Wikipedia username, Mesmeilleurs, comes from the French phrase “Mes meilleurs vœux”, which means “My best wishes”. It’s a way of signing off. Thank you for your interest in me. Yours, MesmeilleursSay Hey! 02:19, 12 May 2019 (UTC). (P.S., you forgot to sign off your message :))
Yes, sorry! Thanks 37.164.87.48 (talk)

Titles

Greetings! My apologies for the rude comment of yesterday night, it seems that my assessment was mislead... - you're in fact cultivated and moreso broad-minded, with a sense of humour, which is great. Sleep well! Circourt (talk) 06:53, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your apology. No hard feelings! I hope you are well also. Thanks, MesmeilleursSay Hey! 15:32, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
so, you're a son to a Laird? Good night Circourt (talk)
Nope, where did you get that idea? MesmeilleursSay Hey! 19:20, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
from Your interest in European monarchies + being a Scot while belonging to the scions of your ancestress Frances Mackenzie, Countess of Seaforth Circourt (talk) 19:28, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Frances Herbert is an ancestress of mine, I am descended from her via her younger and untitled son, The Hon. Alexander Mackenzie. The titles have not been in my branch of the family for centuries! I was much interested in monarchy long before I began research into my genealogy. I suppose my two areas of study have come to complement each other, and now I know I share some degree of kinship with the people I research. Thanks, MesmeilleursSay Hey! 19:34, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
and you're intending to graduate in history? Circourt (talk)
Actually, my degree is in 'Spanish & Latin American Studies'. I enjoy studying history but languages are my forte. My history studies are only a hobby, I've not pursued them academically or professionally, yet. Thanks, MesmeilleursSay Hey! 19:39, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Due to being the son or grandson of a foreigner? Circourt (talk) 19:52, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
No, my family is Scottish as far back as modern records go. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:07, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
so you were fond of the Auld Alliance Circourt (talk) 20:15, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Of course! I love France. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:21, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
because of Mary? Circourt (talk) 20:24, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Not really. I enjoy French culture. And it's a nice country. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:25, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
because of the food Circourt (talk) 20:29, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
And you aim at becoming a diplomat? Circourt (talk) 20:03, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I am unsure as to what I intend to do with my degree as of yet. Thankfully, I've got another five years to decide :) MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:07, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
you're going to earn a master's degree and by then be an exchange student overseas Circourt (talk)
Yes, a year abroad is part of my degree programme. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:16, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
and there you'll meet your future wife Circourt (talk) 20:23, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Haha, I don't think so. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:25, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
for you prefer males? Circourt (talk) 20:28, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:31, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Which isn't a surprise Circourt (talk) 20:34, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
What is meant by that? MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:35, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
it hasn't been a surprise, I felt it and expected that, for some reasons ... Circourt (talk) 20:39, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
If you would be so kind to tell me your reasoning? Don't leave a guy hanging here! MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:49, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
among the some reasons, the deep interest in monarchies as a hobby from an early age is something I know very well, also editing very late at night - as if single - and the way you write reminded me of myself Circourt (talk)
Okay. It just seems the way you were coming across was hostile, and I was just covering my bases. I mean, I'm sure that there are many heterosexuals who have a deep interest in the monarchy and who may tend to stay up late. It's not that big of a deal though. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 21:32, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
and doing so you came across King James IV Circourt (talk)
Indirectly, yes. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 19:47, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
you're not descended from him? Circourt (talk) 19:52, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I am, through his illegitimate daughter Margaret, with his mistress Margaret Drummond. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 19:55, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
so you didn't know you were of titled ascent? Circourt (talk)
Nope! As far as I was aware, my family was just full of crofters, fishermen and farmers. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:05, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
But I suppose most people have royal ancestors and just do not yet know it. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:07, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
yes, indeed, though perhaps not as close as in the 16th/17th century as far as what can be proved through the records is concerned. Probably more remote, before the 13th/14th century for part of them - or unknown due to lack of records Circourt (talk)

Haha - and you just amended your contributor page accordingly. I hope you had come out already to your family and friends circles. Circourt (talk)

Don't be a Wikibigot, Circourt. You're breaking various Wikipedia rules by making these comments and I urge you to stop before I involve higher powers. This is a final warning. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:41, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
what I just meant is that it's brave of you to disclose it, I wouldn't do it Circourt (talk)
I just think it's inappropriate to discuss that. It doesn't have any bearing on my edits on Wikipedia. Thanks. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:47, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
yes, that's true, it's inappropriate - perhaps it would be better to delete all that Circourt (talk)
You're right. I'm going to archive this page now. Thanks for the discussion, though! MesmeilleursSay Hey! 21:32, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
You will also find I had a similar userbox on my user page previously before I blanked it and rewrote it. I don't have any issues with anyone IRL secretly finding out about my sexuality on Wikipedia. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 20:49, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I didn't notice! In fact, The "detective work" didn't go to such an extend ;) Circourt (talk)
LOL MesmeilleursSay Hey! 21:32, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Thanks

(Last message, as a final reply, which you might find appropriate to remove as well once read) Oui, le propos était présenté maladroitement ; c'est normal d'avoir pu l'interpréter négativement, tu ne pouvais pas savoir que je voulais juste partager un parcours similaire. Bisous. Circourt (talk) 21:41, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Circourt, merci. Bisous, MesmeilleursSay Hey! 21:58, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Oui, naturellement. Et en plus, à ta place, c'est le côté intrusif qui m'aurait surtout dérangé. Circourt (talk) P.S. the common situation we share remains undisclosed IRL on my side hence why I wrote that comment
(and I didn't know it wasn't a secret / was easy for you to openly deal with that) Circourt (talk) 22:33, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that you'll be able to find acceptance IRL. Know that you have acceptance here on Wikipedia, with people who won't judge you for who you are. Sois fier de toi! MesmeilleursSay Hey! 22:16, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Non, en fait cela n'a pas vraiment d'importance car j'ai dépassé le problème d'acceptation depuis un moment, I'm (very) fine with it (it just wasn't pleasant to cope with bullies pendant la scolarité - which I kept hidden as well). Simplement, je ne veux pas personnellement faire marche arrière publiquement (I know that sounds weird) Circourt (talk) 22:33, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I know what you mean. Chaque personne a son propre chemin. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 00:18, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Archie Mountbatten-Windsor

On 15 May 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a nine-day-old citizen of the United States, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, is seventh in the line of succession to the British throne? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Lord prefix (et autres)

Bonsoir,

Dans l'exemple du Duke of Montrose, can the Duke decide not to entitle his eldest son, James, to hold his (the Duke's) subisidiary title Marquess of Montrose as a courtesy title?

(ledit fils aîné peut-il être empêché de l'utiliser quand même ?)

On James (the eldest son, who is holding the subsidiary title of Marquess as a courtesy title)'s passport, how is his surname then rendered?

Can the Duke decide not to entitle his second son, Ronald, to use the prefix of lord?

(ledit fils puîné peut-il être empêché de l'utiliser quand même ?)

Merci pour ces explications éventuelles. Circourt (talk) 00:59, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

As far as I know, this is possible, however I don't think it's ever been done. It would be very unusual for the heir-apparent of a Duke, Marquess or Earl to not use a courtesy title. More on that can be found on the article "Courtesy titles in the United Kingdom"
Because James uses the title of Marquess of Graham (not Montrose, I mixed that up, sorry!) as a courtesy title, he is not The Marquess of Graham, because his father is. He is styled as James Graham, The Most Honourable Marquess of Graham.
Again, as far as I know, this is probably possible but very unlikely. It would be going against tradition and custom. Unless the Duke had an explicit reason for not giving his children titles, it would not happen. I don't know of any examples of this happening.
Hopefully these answered your questions! Let me know if I can help with anything else. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 01:10, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Bonjour, merci ; donc c’est seulement unofficially. Quid de l’épouse de James Jr., is she marquise de Graham (comme titre de courtoisie) ? Circourt (talk)
MesmeilleursSay Hey! 16:31, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Merci ! And, yet, only as Graham, Cecilia on her passport Circourt (talk) 16:42, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
On British passports, only peers that are members of the House of Lords and their wives and families have their titles listed on their passport. As James' father, the Duke of Montrose is a member of the House of Lords, this applies to them. So she would have Marchioness of Graham on her passport. Here is a document that explains it in more detail: [1]. MesmeilleursSay Hey! 17:13, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Merci pour la clarification ! I also didn’t know regarding the rules about foreign titles after 1932. So, Philip of Greece could anyway not have kept his title upon being naturalized... It was reported in Focus [2] that Ernst August of Hanover’s German passport’s surname section reads (in small size) « Prinz von Hannover Herzog von Braunschweig und Lüneburg Königlicher Prinz von Großbritannien und Irland » while his British passport reads « His Royal Highness Ernest Augustus Guelph ». Salut, Circourt (talk) 17:34, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

Hey. Just in case you may know the answer. Merci Circourt (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:44, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Paul MacKenzie, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sportsman (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
