Women in Red
[edit]Hi there, Nina2307, and welcome to Women in Red. Good to see you are interested in helping us to improve coverage of women in science and history. You'll find lots of suggestions on women who perhaps deserve articles if you browse through our Redlists. When you feel ready to create your first biography, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:54, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Thank you so much! I am happy to contribute to writing biographies in the space of science, environment and women in the historical period. I have a few doubts, it would be great if you help me with those:
- 1. If I have some ideas for new initiatives or activities, where should I post them?
- 2. If I would know/come across some people who might be notable enough to have a Wikipedia page, I should not create one for them, am I right? Could I list the names in the CS?
- 3. And, after creating a draft for the biography, if I would like someone to review it, could I ask someone in the WiR community for help?
- Thanks! Nina2307 (talk) 20:34, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
- Good to see you already have these constructive queries, Nina2307.
- Re 1: If your ideas are in connection with the Women in Red project, you can post them on our WiR talk page. If they are more in connection with the focus we should give to our monthly events, it would be better to mention them on our Ideas page.
- Re 2: Yes, by all means add people you know to our CS lists, if possible with links to some good secondary sources. If the names already appear in existing articles, it might be useful to redlink them. This will encourage other contributors to write about them.
- Re 3: I would be happy to help you with your first biography. You might find it easier to write about someone who is no longer living. You will find further guidance in our Primer. Rather than just using your basic user space, I suggest you use the format
[[User:Nina2307|Article title]]
for your draft. This will allow you to work on more than one draft at a time and will leave your user space free for other things. - I noticed you added Shantha Mohan to the redlist of engineers. It would be useful if you could add links to two or three good secondary sources as they are the basis on which a biography is considered suitable for Wikipedia. These could include coverage in newspapers and journals (but not interviews with her), accounts relating to her awards, or assessments/critiques of her writing by those not associated with her or her publishers. As you can see, it's not all that easy to justify the inclusion of a living person. Hope this helps.
- If you require any further assistance, just let me know. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:15, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- I just noticed you have not yet added our WiR project template
{{User WikiProject Women in Red}}
to your user page (without the nowiki stuff). I think it would be useful for people to see you are a member of the project. If you have any difficulties with this, let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 06:36, 10 April 2023 (UTC)- @Ipigott Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I am sorry for my inactivity in the past year. I edited my first draft via Kathyrn A. Bard, an American archaeologist, via Article wizard. I am currently hoping to create articles for people in this list, as I could get enough third party references for them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Frequently_mentioned_women_without_wikipedia_pages.
- Could you please help reviewing my first draft and suggest any improvements?
- Thank you so much! I apologize again for my inactivity in the WiR project in the last year. Nina2307 (talk) 18:25, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- I just noticed you have not yet added our WiR project template
- I've moved Kathryn A. Bard to mainspace. You'll see we need a source for the detail about the planks. You might also like to add more categories. Interesting article. I look forward to more.--Ipigott (talk) 06:44, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Thank you so much for your help. I have added source for the planks. Could you please suggest me what categories I could add further? Because based on the reliable sources, I could find only these much! Nina2307 (talk) 06:56, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott I submitted an another draft on Shantha Mohan via Article Wizard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Shantha_Mohan While trying to write on the other persons in the list I mentioned before, I find it hard to get reliable sources for journalists. Because when I search in the internet for their names, I could get only sources which are the articles that they wrote. Even if it is clear that they have contributed to the field, I am perplexed by how to support those contributions via sources? Could you please give me any ideas on how to find reliable sources in case of journalists? Thank you! Nina2307 (talk) 17:43, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
[edit]Women in Red 8th Anniversary | |
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |
