Welcome to Wikipedia (Reversions and why they happen)

[edit]

Hi Panewithholder, welcome to wikipedia. I see you're very new here, and you may not have had an edit reverted before so I'm just popping by to let you know A) why I did it and B) how you can best handle it. Wikipedia has all kinds of various policies about what should and should not be in an article. In this case, I felt your edit violated a policy called WP:NOT specifically the part that talks about Wikipedia not being an indiscriminate collection of information. In an article about a proposed psycho-somatic disorder, a pop culture section is out of place. In my view.

Of course I could be wrong. And so here's what I suggest you do. Go to Talk:Electromagnetic_hypersensitivity that's the talk page for the article, where people can discuss issues like what should or should not be in the article. Once there, create a new section about whether a pop culture section to the article is appropriate. Other editors will weigh in. I'll make a comment there that I reverted but am recusing myself from the discussion for mentorship purposes, and if you like will point people to this message. Get consensus one way or the other from other editors. If consensus becomes clear that I acted correctly then, I'm sorry it's probably best just to forget about that one edit. But, on the other hand, if consensus goes against me I'm not going to fight against you on it - in fact, if consensus is clear that the section should be restored I'll even do it for you. Hello, Panewithholder. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions! I'm W.carter, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism

If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page, and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles

  Perform maintenance tasks
Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates

Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.

The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Your User page

[edit]

For making your user page look nice, see: Wikipedia:User page design center. You can also "clone/borrow/steal" the code from someone else's user page. Just ensure that you change it enough that it does not look like you are trying to impersonate the other user. Wikipedia:User pages is a good guide as to what kind of things are appropriate in user space. And when you use the work someone else has created, in the edit summary please attribute the work to them by naming the user you copied the content from. If you want to add userboxes you can start here: Wikipedia:Userboxes. There are also many, many customized userboxes floating around on user pages in the Wikipedia, if you find one you fancy just copy the code from the page. If you are further interested in defining yourself and your style there is also the Wikipedia:WikiFauna. w.carter-Talk 22:08, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

[edit]

I see that you have started to fill out the form for an RfA. I suggest that you stop filling it out and request that it be deleted because you have zero chance of passing an RfA right now. With you being an editor for only two days and only 20 edits, you do not have the experience necessary to pass an RfA. If you wish to have me delete the RfA, I can do so for you or you can tag the page with {{db-author}}. I recommend that you read Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship to learn about the experience required to pass an RfA. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 00:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have a chance; I'm a decent person. Don't crush my dreams! There is no requirements. Thank you for your courteous, uplifting opinion good sir. Panewithholder (talk) 00:08, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, suit yourself, but you really do have zero chance of passing an RfA. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 00:10, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So you say... I am just person and have a fantastic chance; now mind your own business and gogo outta here! :) Panewithholder (talk) 00:50, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please... Don't answer at the Teahouse

[edit]

Hey, I know you really mean well, but before answering anymore questions at the Teahouse, you really need to get out and edit and experience some more. Your curt short answers with moderately incorrect information or unhelpful links (also read how to wiki link sometime) aren't beneficial and could confuse new users. I suggest working on editing now and returning in a few months, OK? Thanks! EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 04:58, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What the previous editor said. And please do take the advice of senior editors. Those advices are for your own benefit. Best, w.carter-Talk 08:25, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator and Bureaucrat userboxes

[edit]

Because you are neither an Administrator or Bureaucrat, do not add either user box to your user page. If you continue to do so, it will be considered disruptive editing and may result in you being blocked from editing. Additionally, please see Wikipedia's policy on no personal attacks. Thank you. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:18, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm an inspector of the wikipolice and will wikiarrest you... don't mess with the true authority (me) Panewithholder (talk) 21:24, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
