AfD nomination of The Scene Aesthetic

[edit]

An editor has nominated The Scene Aesthetic, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Scene Aesthetic and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking

[edit]

Just to let you know, you ONLY wikilink a date when it's really important, such as a birth of child, etc. or death, or such. You don't need to be wikilinking every single date in the artlce, such as I undid on the Pat White (American football) article. You linked every date, in 2008 that Pat White said somethin'. Also you DON'T need to wikilink years, unless something important happened and you don't have the exact date of it. The reason I'm tellin' you this is 'cuz I'd been gotten onto for that. Also you don't added the th or rd on dates. It's not done that way, sorry. Crash Underride 05:18, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a friendly warning

[edit]

You think about what articles you create for WVU players. Ellis Lankster?? Why? He's not a started, when he becomes one THEN create it. I'm tempted to ((prod}} it. Also, keep in mind my heads up on the wikilinking. Thanks, Crash Underride 20:16, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking 2.

[edit]

When you wikilink a college in an article for an athlete, use that schools sports team article. Such as Reed Williams when linking to the East Carolina football team, you need to link hereEast Carolina Pirates football, rather than just to East Carolina University. The reason I'm telling you this is that it follows the Wikipedia guidelines (I don't have the exact article name for it but I read it). Just thought you should know. Proper wikilinking college sports teams

[edit]

I've noticed that when you wiki link teams for games where someone recorded stats, you just put the schools article link. You're supposed to link to the school's football team page. Or basketball if for a basketball player. I've had to go and fix many of these. See this revision for what the proper way. If the school doesn't have a football page, link then to the athletic page. If not athletic page, then link to the schools athletics section on the schools page. That's how it's supposed to be done, in the order. Also, if you can see the same school mentioned more than once on the screen at the same time, you DON'T need to wikilink it more than once. Just thought you should know. Here's an example of a properly worded intro:

Keilen Dykes (born September 6, 1984 in Youngstown, Ohio) is an American football defensive tackle for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. He played collegiately at West Virginia.

Here's an example of how to link a college football season:

RIGHT

2005

WRONG

2005

Here is a list of football teams that appear in WVU players articles quite often. This are PROPER links, as are supposed to be place in artilces. These of which you HAVE NOT been using.

Pitt
East Carolina
Central Florida
James Madison
Virginia Tech
UConn
Syracuse
Rutgers
Temple
Boston College
Wofford
Maryland
Cincinnati
South Florida
Marshall
Louisville
Oklahoma

In artilces you have edited and NOT properly linked teams, you need to go back and fix them, as I have been doing that for several weeks and I have grown tried of fixing your links. Crash Underride 22:14, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Small niggle

[edit]

For my sanity's sake, and so I don't have to become a cyber-stalker: "home run" is two words. That is all :)

I call the honorable gentleman's attention to the above sentence again since I fixed six of these this morning. Helluva outing by Volquez yesterday - won't have to listen to a certain coworker crow about a sweep now! Majorclanger (talk) 11:30, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there is one other thing, but it doesn't drive me nuts like the home run thing - in general, it's preferred to spell out single digit numbers in articles, using the numerals only for 10 and greater. It's in the manual of style someplace, but it's 3:45 a.m. as I type this in the middle of an electrical storm, and I can't be bothered to look it up.

Oooh, errr... one last thing: nice work on the baseball player updates. You don't go overboard with the current stats and actually cite stuff. And you have good taste in teams. Walt Jocketty will get the thing turned around, no later than 2010, I would guess. Majorclanger (talk) 08:57, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries - glad you took it in the spirit I intended. I live in Cardinals country and the consensus around here is that he's a miracle worker. Give him any budget at all and he'll get good players. Not so sure about the club's current manager however... Majorclanger (talk) 23:19, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slaton

[edit]

It seems you've done the bulk of the work on the article. While it's well-written, this article is insanely too long for a college player that has yet to appear in an NFL game. His college section should be a mere fraction of what it is now. It all just has way too much detail. The pre-draft section was also full of unimportant rankings, quotes, comparisons, etc. It's size it simply way too massive for a guy that's only played college ball so far.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:04, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, be careful about how much preseason info you add on these guys. In the long run, it's not likely to be relevant unless they have very short careers. Imagine if Brett Favre's article contained info on all his preseason games. On line on a year's preseason stats might be worthy, but in the long run nothing more. The info is fine for now, but I'd recommend condensing it once the preseason is over, i.e. "Slaton rushed for 340 yards in the preseason, including 87 yards against the Oakland Raiders." (Numbers and teams made up, but you get the point.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:33, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

lol. If something, a school is wikilinked in an aritlce it only needs to be linked again once it's not on the screen. Like if Rutgers is linked and then appears on the screen it does not need to be linked again. Basically, nothing should appear on the screen more than once at a time and all be wikilinked. Also, you're getting better about the football teams page linking. However don't use Rutgers Scarlet Knights, be as specific as possible, use Rutgers Scarlet Knights football (just an example). An article you created is about to be deleted: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created, Ellis_Lankster is about to be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
  4. You can merge the article into a larger article.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 17:11, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Jock Sanders

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Jock Sanders, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Scapler (talk) 21:49, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, the page was deleted fourteen days after discussion began. According to WP:AfD: "at the end of the discussion period (about five days), it should be closed within a few more days at most" and "articles listed here are debated for up to five days, after which the deletion process proceeds based on Wikipedia community consensus". So, in fact, your article was not deleted prematurely at all, but was allowed to be discussed LONGER than usual. Scapler (talk) 22:08, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Garrett Ford, Jr.

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Garrett Ford, Jr., by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Garrett Ford, Jr. seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Garrett Ford, Jr., please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
