Hidden Comments

[edit]

I've fixed it in that one...the markup is <!-- Comment Here -->, for reference. It's not a big deal, though...I actually had to double-check that, since it's not a common thing to occur. Don't worry too much. For reference, though, most of the common wiki markups are listed here ^_^ Happy editing! —Keakealani Poke Mecontribs 06:52, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can help

[edit]

Hello. Glad to know that you are inviting your colleagues to join. The more the better. There is one place where you can really help. A lot of Indian articles are really lacking in the quality of prose. You being a writer yourself could help in that department. Indian articles which have been expanded are submitted to a process called FAC - a process to select the best of wikipedia called Featured Articles. A lot of Indian articles are already FAs but often get objected during FAC due to the quality of prose. According to criteria 2a of Wikipedia:What is a featured article? the prose must be "compelling, even brilliant". What you can do is periodically check articles (Indian and others) submitted to the Peer Review process. You can check out Indian articles in PR at WP:INWNB. Your comments would be very helpful. Ofcourse, please do all this only if and when you get time from real life and other wikipedia work. Thanks. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 12:51, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia. As Aksi has already told you, you can be instrumental in improving the quality of prose in Indian article. In fact, I would like to request you to please see the article Darjeeling which is currently a Featured Article Candidate. The nomination is here. You will see objections on the quality of prose.

Since you are in Kolkata, please visit the article Kolkata (which is a featured article) and many related article (like History of Kolkata, Transport in Kolkata etc). Enjoy your stay here. WP rocks! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:56, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also you might be interested to see Satyajit Ray which very recently became Featured Article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 08:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Your Enquiry

[edit]

Dear Dr Chatterjee

I wish you would be updated enough about facts before commenting on them. Regarding your questions in Satybrata's article, I would like to inform you that the reviews have been removed before your suggestion of removing them.

You may please check the latest version of his article, and come up with any possible questions accordingly.

Moreover, if you have any questions about the authenticity of the reviews, as an university lecturer, you are capable enough of contacting the appropriate reviewers and take their opinions, if you have any headache after all. You may even contact the professors of international relations (including Professor Emeritus Jayantanuja) at your university, all of whom are just at ten minute's walking distance from your office I guess. (It may be noted here that even many of them are Rai Chowdhuri's students and therefore, are aware of Rai Chowdhuri's scholarship a bit.)

If you need further evidences, I would love to face you. It may even be arranged to send signed hardcopies of the reviews at your J.U. English Dept. address.

Sincere regards

Sophie G., France.

Commercial Usage

[edit]

Highlighting a book or forthcoming book titles are alright perhaps. But when it is given with publisher's name, it becomes commercial. Is not it? NO COMMERCIAL USAGES PLEASE. AVOID SELF-REFERENCES

User:ChandronandanChandronandan 09:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't seem as commercial usage to me at all. It's a good thing to know about the user. It's a user page, not an encyclopedia article. Daniel Šebesta (talkcontribs) 09:33, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla wikipedia

[edit]

Hi, I am a bureaucrat and an administrator of the Bangla wikipedia. Would you like to join there and contribute? We need more Bengali speakers to participate in the project.

Feel free to drop me a message here in my talk page, or on my Bangla wikipedia talk page. --Ragib 06:42, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like you are back to Wikipedia ... have you checked out the Bangla one? We'd benefit greatly if we have scholars like you there. --Ragib 08:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm working on a paper on Wikipedia too. Of course, it is more computer science oriented, and deals with the readability of articles. Anyway, Banglapedia is nice, but has the problem of becoming stale. Also, many articles suffer from POV issues. It is an excellent effort nevertheless, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh did a great job there. --Ragib 08:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Prof. Chatterjee,

Probably you might not remember me, but I am a former student of yours. Currently I am working on Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur article, that is currently a Featured article candidate. I have done my best to keep the langauge of the article up to the mark, but there still are minor prose related issues with the article. May I request you to go through it and copyedit to perfection. I would be thankful if you can help. Regards, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 12:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dr. Chatterjee,

It would be great if you could contribute to the following biographies: Bani Basu, Sukanta Chaudhuri, Supriya Chaudhuri, Gail Omvedt, Premendra Mitra, Sudhindranath Dutta, Satyendranath Dutta, Buddhadeb Bosu, Keshub Chunder Sen, Suniti Kumar Chatterji and Sitanath Tattwabhushan.

Thanks for your help.

Response

[edit]

Dr. Chatterjee,

I apologize for the delay in my response. Thank you very much for your contributions. They are most welcome. There are many other biographies as well that require more factual information and thorough editing, like Partha Chatterjee, Kancha Ilaiah, Udit Raj, Supriya Devi, Mrinal Sen, Sasthi Brata, Chuni Kotal, Surendranath Dasgupta, Protap Chunder Mozoomdar, Krishna Pal, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Mrinal Sen , Narayan Sanyal, Suniti Kumar Chatterji, Keshub Chunder Sen, Brajendra Nath Seal, Tapan Sinha, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Manik Bandopadhyay, Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, Nirad C. Chaudhuri, Rabi Ghosh, Gautam Ghose, Mani Shankar Mukherjee, Rajsekhar Bose, Suchitra Mitra, Ashutosh Mukherjee among others. During the initial stages, many of them tend to resemble hagiographies, which is I believe, thoroughly inconsistent with the NPOV spirit of Wikipedia.

All the best for your future endeavor on Wikipedia.

Hi Prof Chatterjee, Hope you are fine. Thanks for your kind interest. Your ideas are really appreciable. I will collect a brief record of Prof Rai Chowdhuri's works, and will also try to get a statement from him on his research, as soon as possible. In the mean time, you may also have a look at his forthcoming book "Leftism In India 1917-1947" at Palgrave UK website's History scholarly and reference books section. Your ideas on improving anything further will be most heartily welcome. Very best,Sophiesorbonne 18:55, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In wiki, you always have the liberty to add content to an article. If you feel, the article doesn't contain much information, please feel free to add content. Thanks, Gnanapiti 23:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Seagull Books, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Berserkerz Crit 11:39, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re Seagull Books

[edit]

Ok I will remove the prod tag for now but I would kindly suggest you add proper references, most importantly third-party refs (not primary ones - from Seagull itself). From the way it stands it currently looks like an ad page. I wish you luck and happy editing. =) Berserkerz Crit 11:57, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Respected Madam

Once upon a time, six years up the line i was a student in your class "English for Communication". Hope you still take the first year classes. People often says me, dont waste time on wikipedia. Now i see you. I must conclude editing in wikipedia is a good practice. I still remember the day when we had a group discussion in class on the topic "Whether the Indians should leave the country after education". Those remarks and cross-remarks from students were simply stupid.

please tell me something about your view on wikipedia.

A new Oxbridge user box

[edit]

Rimibchatterjee...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 17:57, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Rimi B. Chatterjee in 2008.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Rimi B. Chatterjee in 2008.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Kali for Women has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 21:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On women's colleges

[edit]

Hello Dr Chatterjee,

There has been a recent effort to rename the categories on women's colleges in Calcutta from alumnae to alumni. Please see [1] and [2].

Given the historical significance of these institutions, it may be a good idea to maintain the existing category names. We would look forward to your views on the talk page on the relevance (or otherwise) of either category.
