Proposed deletions
[edit]This page in a nutshell: As a shortcut around AfD for uncontroversial deletions, an article can be proposed for deletion, though once only. If no one contests the proposal within seven days, the article may be deleted by an administrator. |
Proposed deletion is the way to suggest that an article is uncontroversially a deletion candidate. If a ({{subst:prod}}) tag is added to an article, the article will be deleted about 7 days later if nobody objects. If any user objects—usually by removing the tag—then the article may be taken to Articles for Deletion for further discussion.
How it works
[edit]Articles that:
- Have previously been proposed for deletion using the {{prod}} process.
- Have previously been undeleted
- Have been discussed at AfD
are not candidates for {{prod}}.
Additionally, only articles, lists, and disambiguation pages may be proposed for deletion using {{prod}}.
- See Category:Proposed deletion for the listing of all articles currently proposed for deletion.
- An automated summary table can be found at WP:PRODSUM.
Before nominating an article for deletion
[edit]- Read and understand the Wikipedia deletion policy (WP:DEL), which explains valid grounds for deletion. If the page can be improved, this should be solved through regular editing, rather than deletion.
- Read the article to properly understand its topic. Note that stubs and imperfect articles are awaiting further development and so the potential of the topic should be considered.
- If the article is not already tagged to note a problem, apply a tag, such as
{{notability}}
,{{hoax}}
,{{original research}}
,{{unencyclopedic}}
or{{advert}}
; this ensures that everyone viewing the article is aware of the problem and may act to remedy it. - Consider making the page a useful redirect or proposing it be merged rather than deleted. Neither of these actions requires an AfD.
- Click "what links here" in the article's sidebar, to see how the page is used and referenced within Wikipedia.
- Check interwiki links to pages "in other languages" which may provide additional material for translation.
- Read the article's talk page, which may provide reasons why the article should or should not be deleted; if there was a previous nomination, check that your objections haven't already been dealt with.
- Familiarize yourself with the guidelines and policies on notability, reliable sources and what Wikipedia is not. Related guidelines include WP:BIO, WP:COI, WP:CORP, WP:MUSIC, WP:WEB, and, for list articles, WP:CLN. For a list of policies and guidelines that can be useful in a deletion proposal, see Wikipedia:List of policies and guidelines to cite in deletion debates.
- When nominating an article for deletion due to sourcing or notability concerns, make a good-faith attempt to confirm that such sources aren't likely to exist.
- Before nominating a recently created article, please consider that many good articles started their Wikilife in pretty bad shape. Unless it is obviously a hopeless case, consider sharing your reservations with the article creator, mentioning your concerns on the article's discussion page, and/or adding a "cleanup" template, instead of bringing the article to AfD. If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a good candidate for AfD.
Conflicts
[edit]Contested deletions: If anyone, including the article's creator, removes a {{prod}} tag from an article for any reason, do not put it back. If the edit is not obviously vandalism, do not restore the tag, even if the tag was apparently removed in bad faith. If you still believe that the article needs to be deleted, list it on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Note:
- If someone replaces a proposed deletion tag with an AfD tag, this is equivalent to contesting the proposed deletion, and the PROD tag should not be restored.
How do I add pictures to articles?
[edit]Chzz ► 03:03, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there. You replied to my reply, on my talk page - but there was just a signature, with no message. Is everything OK now? Please let me know with a further note on my talk page. Cheers, Chzz ► 15:08, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Technosaurus and consolidating references
[edit]Hello, Rterrace;
I pulled the new material from Technosaurus because it was from an old reference, before it was known that Technosaurus was actually similar to Silesaurus (which does have sort of a can-opener on its lower jaw, so a beak might still be in play for Technosaurus once more skull material is found. With the size, though, the old figures can't be trusted).
Also, once you've created a reference with the <ref> tags, you can make it simpler by using <ref name=[whatever name you choose]> instead, and then for any additional use in the article using <ref name=[whatever name you choose]/> with a slash at the end of the name (it's a bit hard to explain, but you'll be able to see how it's done by checking on the consolidation I did with the Coelophysis book). The main advantages are it saves some space and makes the text easier to read when editing, although it doesn't matter so much if you've got wikED turned on as a gadget in your preferences because it colors all references gray. Thanks for chipping in references, and let me know if you have any questions! J. Spencer (talk) 04:50, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Pablo Gazzarri listed as a Stub
[edit]I have noticed your recent edits to Pablo Gazzarri. You have added the {{stub}} template. This is fine and your contributions are appreciated. But in future, to aid in the expansion of articles, such as this one, please use a more specific stub template. A list of stub templates can be found here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs. Thank you. -- Patchy1(talk) 01:43, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Template:convert
[edit]Hi, I see you are busy applying the convert template. I am engaged on similar work. I am wondering if you are using any tools to help you do this? Would you like to exchange notes? Gaius Cornelius (talk) 08:39, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I am am adding the convert template manually. It is time consuming, but it gets the job done. What method works best for you? Rterrace (talk) 13:21, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I am using WP:AWB. I have a set of regex expressions that semi-automate the process of inserting converts, it is a huge help. If you are interested in using AWB, I'd be happy to share my special regex expressions. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 13:37, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I'd like to learn how it works. I must apologise for my ignorance, but I do not even know what a "regex expression" is!
- Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) is an editing tool, it is semi-automated which makes routine tasks much easier. The editing tasks are expressed as regular expressions (regexes) which provide a very flexible search and replace function that can be applied to a list of articles. There are some standard regexes which are shared, but it is usual for a user to provide at least one particular regex of his or her own. You may be familiar with wildmat string matching function comon when looking for files where "d?g" will match with "dag", "deg", "dig", "dog" and "dug" - regex is a similar idea, but much more powerful. Read the AWB page and see if you wish to go ahead. You will need 500 edits under your belt, but you must be close to that already... Gaius Cornelius (talk) 19:55, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of John Smithson
[edit]A tag has been placed on John Smithson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Khmer script
[edit]Please refrain from removing valid content written in the Khmer script within Wikipedia articles such as the Khmer language and Phnom Penh. Although not consistently used throughout, the Wiki tags {{lang|km|____}} are also an indicator that the given word is not written in the latin alphabet, but rather identifies the language using a two-letter language code (km for Cambodian), as is the increasing standard of denoting most other writing systems (otherwise a banner on the right will indicate that the page contains script X). For more information on displaying the Khmer script, see Help:Multilingual support (Indic) for more details. Thank you. - Io Katai (talk) 03:48, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Alpha Gamma Omega (disambiguation)
[edit]Hello. I saw that you removed the prod from this page, but couldn't find the reason. It has now been taken to AfD, so I thought I should keep you informed. Thanks, Boleyn2 (talk) 05:51, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Proposed removal of List of opera houses
[edit]I have added the following to the article's talk page:
- What does the WikiProject:opera group propose to do?
- As one of the group's members, I would propose that we address some of the concerns of editor User talk:Rterrace:
- 1. Attempt to verify existance of these "opera houses" and whether they meet the criteria we have established, such as whether they put on operas in these theatres at all.
- 2. Remove red links where it is impossible to verify via Google, etc. that these theatres present operas.
- 3. Blue links to existing articles certainly establisdh the existance of these theatres. What other form of verification is there?
You certainly make a good point by posting your proposal to delete. I hope that other members of the [Wikiproject:Opera] will pitch in.
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Nutrient canal, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/nutrient+canal. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 02:45, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Rterrace,
I changed the page that you created into a redirect leading to On the Way to the Sky. The deletionist new page patrol will just delete the page regardless of what you or I do, so this is really the best solution. My recommendation is to add information about "Be Mine Tonight" to the album's page. If/when that information becomes large enough it can always be moved back to the redirect page.

You can view the full list of stub types at WP:STUBS |
Hello Rterrace,
I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}}
template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.
If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks! Ω (talk) 04:56, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
I have deleted this page, as it is a recreation of a page previously deleted. Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeffrey F. Bell. If you have any questions about this, please ask me. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:33, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Regarding your comment on my talk page, I think it is wrong to delete an article without any kind of advanced warning. Just beacuse a page has been previously deleted does not mean that it can not be re-created at a later date. I ask that you restore the deleted article, and bring it to a discussion so a consensus can be reached on the deletion of the article., please see the Criteria for Speedy Deletion page, specifically point #4 in the "General" section. This article had been previously deleted by consensus, and your recreation isn't substantially different from the one that was created. If you believe the deletion was in error, please pursue that via the Deletion Review process. Thanks. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:52, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- I notice form the [[[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeffrey F. Bell|discussion link]] that you sent me, you were involved in the deletion talks, and you voted to delete. Doesn't that demonstrate that you have a conflict of interest? How do I bring this to the attention of an neutral admin? Rterrace (talk) 13:06, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Please see the instructions at Wikipedia:Deletion review. I have no problem with my decision being reviewed and overturned if other admins feel I acted inappropriately. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:09, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation
[edit]You have been accused of sockpuppetry, which means that someone suspects you of using multiple Wikipedia accounts for prohibited purposes. Please make yourself familiar with the notes for the suspect, then respond to the evidence at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Azviz. Thank you.. Abductive (talk) 20:32, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
FYI, even though the prod nominator did not give a reason in the {{dated prod}} template, this edit summary indicates that the concern was lack of notability. Not that the tag needs to be reapplied in any way, since you contested it, but I'm just letting you know. Best, Jamie☆S93 22:09, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Bart Bast. Our verifiability policy requires that all content be cited to a reliable source. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:13, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Jeffrey F. Bell
[edit]I'm afraid Chzz has taken an extended wikibreak; I may be able to help in the mean time. I believe in this instance proper procedure was followed: the decision to delete was taken by an uninvolved administrator, for example. If you have been told that the article can never be recreated, though, then that is wrong. In short, policy says that you shouldn't recreate the same article as was deleted: if you address the concerns raised in the AFD, rewriting the article completely before submitting it again then it should be left to stand. Hope that clarifies things a bit. - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 18:27, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
