WikiProject Wikify and the future of wikification
Hi! There is an ongoing proposal at the project talkpage concerning the future of wikification, including possible deprecation of the {{wikify}} template which is being discussed at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 August 10. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Question about tables
A long, long time ago you posted a welcome template on my talk page :) Well, I finally have a question! I've been trying to work on the page "List of natural gas fields" but I'm running into trouble with the table on the page.
Basically, what I want to do is split the last column into two (so there would be "Recoverable reserves" as a single column with two columns below it: "1012 cu ft" and "km3") I often use data from wikipedia and it's a pain when the tables have lots of jumbled information that's hard to parse through. Can you help? If not, can you lead me in the right direction? AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 20:36, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry for the late reply. Yes, it is easy to do but hard to figure out how to do it the first time!
- The trick is to make the last cell of the title span two columns, then add an extra column to all the rows following.
- To make the convert tag split across cells, add
|disp=table
. For some reason,Tcuft
(the convert code for trillion cubic feet) seems to be broken/incomplete when used with|disp=table
. Hope that helps!
№ | Field name | Country | Recoverable reserves[1] | |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | South Pars/North Dome | Iran and Qatar | 1,235×1012 cu ft | 3.50×104 km3 |
2 | Urengoy | Russia | 222×1012 cu ft | 6.3×103 km3 |
3 | Flood Control Dam #3 | Tonga | 1,337×10 12 cu ft | 37,900 km3 |
- This is perfect! Thank you. I'll see what I can do about the broken convert function. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 06:12, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Update I just thought I would let you know that I posted on the template talk page and they fixed it! The system works after all! AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 17:51, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited MySQL, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Chrome and Android (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Teufel Hunden
I am not sure why. But on the 14 of January you remover edits I made to to references to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. I inserted the words "Teufel Hunden," you labeled such as "graffiti." I am unsure as to why. You did request citation, I would make the argument that no other battalion nickname listed has citation. Unfortunately, the term Teufel Hunden is engraved on the battalion statue inside the 2/5 C.P. and is to some extent undocumented. The only reference I could offer is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_Dog which does not specifically mention the nickname, but lets you know it is not "graffiti." The only thing I could offer would be to go to the steps of the battalion statue and read the inscription. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.28.13.180 (talk) 07:05, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I did a search on Teufel Hunden and from the Devil Dog article, it appeared to be a disparaging term (what the WWII German Soldiers called the Marines), which it why I removed it. As for asking for a citation, saying that none of the other nicknames hasve no citations is not a sufficient justification for failing to provide a reference. Especially if the term is disparaging, then it needs to be corroborated. Why not include a picture of the battalion statue highlighting the term? — Safety Cap (talk) 17:04, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

dude, the information is blatantly false, you can read the book for free, it says nothing of the sort. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.190.80.94 (talk) 05:48, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ahh, if it is blatantly false, you should have no problem quoting any book by any other author, right? — Safety Cap (talk) 20:01, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
all I want to do is share my knowledge but it keeps getting reverted. this is the most frustrating process ever. Why can websites be viewed as reliable sources, but books cant? who can I report these problems too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.190.80.94 (talk) 06:01, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- Part of the issue is that you appear to be unwilling to work within the community by following the rules we all do. For example:
- You don't follow the basic request on my page to create a new topic when you want to talk to me.
- You don't sign your comments.
- You don't listen to others regarding quoting your own books. There are thousands of books you didn't write that you could reference, but you refuse to do so, even though this has been pointed out to you several times.
- You refuse to follow the guidelines with respect to citing sources.
- You delete content that is properly sourced and provide no explanation (with cited evidence) as to why that content was wrong and needed to be removed.
- I hope you take the temporary banning as a wake-up call. You appear to have passion and knowledge about the subject, so you should be able to find references that are not your own. Use those.

Removal of IP sockpuppet edits
Hello, Safety Cap. I am removing recent edits which were made by a blocked editor, evading the block via a different IP address, and pretending to be another person. Along with his edits, there is one brief reply of yours which is going. naturally, if you prefer to keep this, then you are free to revert my edit. However, my feeling is that the more this user (who has now used several IP addresses, evading block after block) gets to find that edits he makes disappear, the less likely he will be to persist. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:29, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi JamesBWatson - thank you very much for the heads up! I'm not going to undo your actions; I can always copy it out of the history. BTW, what article/page was it? Thanks — Safety Cap (talk) 20:59, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, re-reading what I wrote above, I now see that I didn't make it clear. When I wrote "I am removing recent edits..." I meant "I am at this moment, as I post this message to you, removing recent edits..." In other words, I was referring to edits to this talk page, which I was removing in this edit. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:14, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Asim Jofa - please help
Hello,
I created a Draft for the Wikipedia page on a celebrity personality in my country but it got rejected. The reason was citations. I searched on the correct way to cite and used them but I am still having trouble. Can you please guide me regarding this?

Hello Safety Cap,
I added the Asim Jofa page who is a local celebrity but a big one but there are problems with the referencing and it got rejected. Can you please help me with that?
Lubaina — Preceding unsigned comment added by LubainaM (talk • contribs) 20:47, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like they're looking for more "official" sources. I suggest finding something from a major print newspaper, magazine or even books. Compare with Coco Chanel and all of the sources. Also, in terms of notability, you might specify why Asim Jofa is notable. Did he invent a new style that others have copied? Did he do some substantial work that is internationally-known? — Safety Cap (talk) 00:44, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
