Humanbot

I saw that you left a comment on the Humanbot talk page saying that it worked for you. It doesn't seem to for me. I was just wondering if I was missing a step out, as I have not had a reply to the question I left there. Here is what the message I left said:

I have installed the User script and it shows up in the "manage user scripts" window. The problem is that the little box on the left hand side of the screen (between "toolbox" and "other languages"). Its nowhere to be found. I've tried a restart and reinstalling and purge but it won't appear.

I am impressed by the fact that you can get co-ordinates, and along with co-ords and a stub and category, it makes it more likely that some people are likely to add, and or edit - as opposed to starting new arts. But maybe I should take the share, seing I started the range article. There's also the issue of cross-referencing some of the other west coast items, as some edit persons don't always know about the parallels that well. enough! should get back to work!vcxlor 04:09, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

Yeah my problem is that I have central java, parts of wa, west coast tas, and things in between, along with concern about messy disambig pages, and unreferenced wa arts - my friends who are academics have deep fear that some of their students think that all known info is on g-----! so if g--- directly connects with w--- then there are some very strange forms of knowledge in this particular universe. OK if its not easy (Mt Wellington bit) I wont touch it! I have tried in some my stubs, just to put names in a sort of unformatted thing like North of the location, South of the location etc before I get around to loading more info. Motor racing circuits category renaming

The CFD vote was closed as Rename subs to "Motor racing venues in country", but the edits seem to be getting made to articles such as Adelaide Street Circuit changing to Category:Car race tracks in Australia. What did which of us miss? --Scott Davis ^Talk 14:14, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

Yes, again this was my mistake, I clicked on the links on the category after I closed the CFD, thinking that it was closed as that. As you may or may not know CFD has been backed a great deal, and I have been working frantically to catch up. I have made a few typo mistakes, but I will correct this one. No worries :) I just happened to notice that I cleared 10 of the 35 articles, and there were still 27 left afterwards. What I've been doing with the disambiguation pages is just to run the suburb name through the search function and incorporating what comes up into the new page - takes a bit longer, but the results are more helpful. Creating the initial stubs is a pretty good idea, though - I think that's done wonders for the Canberra project. Ambi 11:04, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Queer Cadet

Firstly I am a gay man, or a homosexual, or a poofter, or a bitter old queen, but I am not an LGBT, or any other horrid po-mo acronym. Second, I have never heard the expression queer cadet and I have no idea what it might mean. Australian Football articles

Hey Scott, I'm reasonably new to the site, and I know you're not an admin, but where could I start an Australian football project? You might laugh at this, but I think we could turn Wikipedia into a database of Australian rules footballers. I mean, it's been done with Formula One drivers, so why not with AFL? Roger(?), Welcome. I suggest you ask at the Australian Wikipedian's noticeboard whether there are many others interested in a WikiProject for Australian rules football. I expect you'll get a couple of people, and User:J L C Leung from Canada is likely to also be interested as he voted for the Australian footy finals at Australian collaboration of the fortnight (it didn't get up as a collaboration, but the articles were written anyway). If you get some experienced editors offering to help, they'll be able to help set up a wikiproject. I think it sounds like a good idea, but I'm not a footy fan, so wouldn't help (but might occasionally copyedit an article). Good luck. --Scott Davis ^Talk 13:01, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you indeed for you vote and your kind words, although I don't think the situation will change there; one of the sad things about this nasty, unexpected turn of events is that I won't have the opportunity of interacting with people such as yourself and Peta.

I'll be leaving Wikipedia feeling angry, distressed and depressed. It will not be easy to resist the temptation to bag the project long, wide and hard on the Internet.

On the Australia article and page, I appreciated your even-handedness and authority. It must be one of the best articles on WP, and you've played a significant part in that. I wish you well.

There was also discussion on the Australian Noticeboard about moving the article to a more appropriately named one. Ben Aveling and Monivae College...

"Not notable", sometimes abbreviated to NN is a quick way of saying that he thinks the school is not important enough to have an article about it in the Wikipedia. The usual solution to that would be to put the information on the article for the town (in this case Hamilton, Victoria). There has been quite a bit of discussion over the last year or so about what the standard is for a high school to be notable enough to have its own article. I believe that Mr. Ben Aveling is only saying it is a 'NN' as a personal attack on me for my past mistakes. Well you know what, Peter denied Jesus, which was a big mistake but Jesus forgave him. I don't think Ben is trying a personal attack as such, but you must admit you've started off on the wrong foot with a rather public hoax article. Ben probably has not heard of the school, and may in fact say that about most high schools (I don't know). There are a number of arguments for all sides at Wikipedia:Schools/Arguments. I have previously voted to merge a school article to its town, and voted to keep a different school's article, allowing the creator to become a useful contributor to other articles. My reasoning was based on the quality of the article, not the quality of the school. I suggest you make the Monivae College article so compelling that we can no longer doubt either your seriousness or the notability of the school. --Scott Davis ^Talk 11:33, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi Scott. User:Rogerthat has done a copy and paste move from Lewis Roberts-Thompson to the correct spelling Lewis Roberts-Thomson, losing the page history. How do I contact you?

I am new to wiki, live in Sydney and find there are things I don't know how to do or might not be allowed to do (as I just have a user logon).

Would like a 'mentor' to assist.

Can you give me an email address to which I can email you things I think need to be done so you can tell me where to find out how to do them or so you can do them.

Examples: - Phalanx_CIWS and CIWS articls probably need to be combined. - I would say the page "Australian constitutional crisis of 1975" should have an 'in dispute' label.

RE: cheapholidayaccommodation.com

Hi Scott, I'm a semi-regular user of Wikipedia and was surprised to visit the site this afternoon and find a reference to my IP address and someone who has been adding links to cheapholidayaccommodation.com - it's certainly not me! My knowledge of IP addresses is limited, but I didn't realise that someone in the same town would have the same IP as me, if this is the case, and someone else is abusing the system, does this harm my ability to be a part of Wikipedia? I've signed up for a username now, so does that solve the problem?

Forgive my ignorance, I've been around the web for quite a while, but I'm new to Wikipedia..

Regarding Fukitol

If Fukitol is deleted for "self-promotional" purposes because it is a commercial entity, then entries like Microsoft should also be deleted. What is the purpose of this Public Encyclopedia? Fukitol has been a spoof that has been around since 1974; and it's here to stay.

Thanks for your support. Yeah, it doesn't look good, does it? When I found it, Dryandra was a redirect to the unrelated genus Vernicia. That was unacceptable to me. In hindsight I should have spent five minutes turning into a substub, but my mind was on other matters and it didn't occur to me. Instead I blanked it and left a brief explanation on the talk page. Shortly afterwards someone speedied it.

Copyright Issues/Photos

G'day mate, just asking you a question on copyright issues. Just say I wanted to post an image of a cricket or Australian rules player that I had taken of them while attending a match, could I legally upload it? If you took the photograph, you hold the copyright in that photograph (unless someone else hired you to take it, then you may find the employment contract means they own it). There may also be moral rights. Even if your employer owns the copyright, you may have a right to be acknowledged as the actual photgrapher. I had a feeling there was something somewhere in moral rights about the subject giving permission if they were identifiable, but I can't find a reference now, and I don't think it applies to "public figures" anyway. Maybe that's just politeness, not law, or maybe it's in the privacy laws instead. In short, you own copyright, and are allowed photos of adult sportspeople performing in their chosen sport. Various other laws may apply to photos of individual people going about their private business or to photographs of children. --Scott Davis ^Talk 11:59, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
