RE: Edit Summary at 2009-10 Orlando Magic season

I didn't mean anything like that, I just meant that I wish all these wins the Magic have gotten in the preseason so far carried over into the regular season so they would have a good head start on everyone else. :)

But I agree with you about the poor maintenance on the NBA season articles. For exapmle, the one thing that has really caught my eye, is the game log templates for each team this season. I don't know if it's because the templates have been created and just haven't been added to the category for 2009-10 season game log templates, but there are only 4 teams with game log templates for this season, including the one for the Magic that I just created two nights ago. And the ones that have been created don't have a link to that team's 2009-10 season schedule on ESPN.com because they don't have the end_year=2010 at the top and bottom. The only template that does have that is the one for the Magic, because I caught that while I was making the template and saw how to fix it on the {{Template:NBA game log start}} page. I imagine there are several major problems that you may have already seen with the other teams, but I don't involve myself with any of the wikiprojects so I've never brought it up with anyone. Tampabay721 (talk) 03:46, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm still a little skeptical about the Vince Carter acquisition, but that's only because I keep thinking about it like the Rays getting Pat Burrell in the last baseball offseason, and instead of being this monster home run hitter like he had been pretty much his entire career with the Phillies, he turned out to be a huge disappointment this year. And I know comparing basketball players to baseball players is like comparing apples to space shuttles, but I have had some horrible luck in terms of sports in the last year, so I'm hoping Carter does well and the Magic can be even stronger than they were last year! Tampabay721 (talk) 04:32, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

CIS standings templates

Hi, Glad to see you work on these articles. I know that the new CIS website lists conference wins and losses for Canada West and OUA but they don't actually have any cross-conference games, are erroneous, and ought to be omitted. I also wonder if there is any need of the boxes being templates at all, if they are not to be transcluded in multiple places. It might as well be substituted, hadn't it? I've been too busy lately to do a reasonable job of keeping up with these articles but hope to get them up to proper snuff at some date. Cheers! DoubleBlue (talk) 02:40, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Of course, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference if it's a template or not, except that it may be slightly less obvious how to edit for new editors, it just doesn't seem needed either and especially not by year if it's not going to be needed to be multiply transcluded and forever updated.
The Pre-season games should not and are not included in the standings. The weird hiccup of having "non-conference games" erroneously showing up on the new CIS website I suspect is due to the drive to quickly and belatedly put up the site before the season is finally over. You can see that some games are mistakenly listed as non-conference, for example the October 3 McMaster @ Western game http://english.cis-sic.ca/sports/fball/2009-10/schedule?team=Western which ends up showing the OUA standings for both Western and Mac with only 7 conference games in an 8 game schedule. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:17, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Canada West had two pre-season games; they are not counted in the standings by Canada West or anyone nor should they be. No league I know of in any sport counts pre-season games in standings; they are practice work-outs and often looser rules. The Canada West schedule webpage labelling them as "non-conference" is certainly a misnomer. The QUFL/AUAA games are true inter-conference games. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
They're pre-season games that do not count in the standings and allow the coaches to work-out their players, plays, rookies. They can choose to take it somewhat seriously, of course, to get things started on the right foot, but they also know, in the end, it does not count. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

World Juniors

I'm pretty sure they don't. I recall reading somewhere that they don't, but that was at least a year ago. I did some digging on the IIHF site and found a couple of things: last year's championship, at the very bottom, it says Canada wins gold and Kazakhstan and Germany are relegated. But for division I, all it says is who's relegated and promoted, which I interpret as no medal given. This isn't exactly damning evidence, though. Feel free to change it back if you think it would be best. Or perhaps something like, "only those in the top division can be named champions" until we can confirm it. • Welcome
  • We’re excited to announce that User:Presidentman has joined WikiProject Saskatchewan as our Editor in Chief. Presidentman will oversee editorial content and the Saskatchewan Wikiproject community contributions on the Wikiproject newsletter. Presidentman has also successfully developed the Picture of the Day project and has been active on wikipedia for close to three years in a plethora of projects enriching wikipedia with close to 3,000 contributions. The transition between our old editor and the new has been smoother than any of us could have hoped for — SriMesh wrote their last newsletter article for January, 2010, and Presidentman started up without missing a beat for February 2010. The previous years for SriMesh, the past editor, had been richly rewarding, seeing subscriptions grow, informing interested editors of developments and changes to the Saskatchewan wikipedia community and supporting activities on the Saskatchewan Wikiproject. It is now time for me to move to new writing projects to finish, and further responsibilities which are vying for my attention. Please join me in welcoming Presidentman to the their new position! Presidentman is working on a host of new features and an updated look, which will take things to a new level. It is wonderful to have a new editor to bring in the new year! Expect great things.
Welcome Presidentman, and best wishes!
Your wonderful act of kindness to take on editorial capacity of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject news letter is much appreciated! Thank you so much!!!

Kind Regards, SriMesh | talk 18:36, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Because of word that the new league formerly called "Arena Football 1" has decided to take on the new Arena Football League moniker, I thought it would be a good time to revive Wikipedia:WikiProject Arena Football League. The team I adopt for this project is the Milwaukee Iron (my home team), and I am leaving this message on your talk page to (hopefully) get you back interested. I notice that you were previously a member, being a fan of the Orlando Predators and Spokane Shock, so if you're interested, please sign up on the members list and we'll get things going again. Louisiana IceGators

I do not know the story about the IceGators's mistaken affialiation with the New York Islanders, but I know that NHL clubs are only officially affiliated with AHL and ECHL clubs. On November 4, Mike Sellito (a player who was signed to an AHL contract) was announced by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of being cut by the team and was being sent to the IceCats. I think the IceCats announced that they are affiliated with Islanders on October 18(?), but it seems that is not so. (The Sound Tigers club is owned by the Islanders so any agreement that the IceCats thought they had with Bridgeport is also an agreement with the Islanders.)

But I think your concern was the levels of hockey. The AHL can be considered as the AAA of hockey and the ECHL AA, but the CHL also thinks itself as AA. The other hockey leagues do not officially call themselves the A level of hockey. For this reason, I do think list any ECHL club being affiliated with any of the other hockey leagues. If you take a close look at the transactions between the AHL and ECHL (take the player movements between the AHL's Lowell/Albany Devils and the ECHL's Trenton Devils), you will notice that you do not see any recalls or assignments between the two leagues. You will sometimes see the ECHL loaning players to the AHL or those players being signed to PTO's (Professial Tryout Contracts) who are then released from the AHL club back to the ECHL. This also happens with ECHL clubs and those clubs in the other leagues.

I hope that helps a little. Thanks, Raul17 (talk) 10:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I misspoke a little. There are recalls & assignments between the AHL & ECHL, but I was pointing out that most of those movements are PTO deals. Last season, I mistakenly thought that any transaction between the Lowell Devils and Trenton Devils were normal recalls & assignments because both are own by the [New Jersey Devils]]. Lowell was actually signing the Trenton players to PTOs when they were in the AHL and then releasing them when they returned to Trenton (see below). Every AHL team except three are affiliated with the ECHL. The Providence Bruins are not affiliated like their parent, the Boston Bruins with the Reading Royals; the Portland Pirates with the Buffalo Sabres have no ECHL affiliation; and the Lake Erie Monsters with the Colorado Avalanche also do not an ECHL affiliate but both are affiliated with CHL's Tulsa Oilers. When the Rochester Americans were part of the Buffalo Sabres organization, they would have their own ECHL affiliate while the Sabres who did not.

Player movement between leagues

  • NHL contracted players are loaned from NHL clubs to AHL/ECHL clubs or re-assigned from AHL to ECHL by NHL clubs.
  • NHL contract players are 'recalled from loan by NHL clubs from AHL/ECHL or re-assigned from from ECHL to AHL by NHL clubs.
    • AHL contracted players are loaned from AHL to ECHL or assigned to CHL/AAHL/FHL/SPHL clubs(which is listed as loaned in those leagues' transaction).
    • AHL contract players to NHL: those players are released from their AHL contracts & signed to at least 2-way NHL contract.
    • AHL contract players are 'recalled from loan from ECHL and other minor leagues.
      • ECHL (and other minor leagues) contracted players are loaned to AHL: those players are signed to AHL Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).
      • ECHL (and other minor leagues) contract players are returning from loan from AHL: those players are released from their AHL PTO.

A tag has been placed on 1914 Saskatchewan Huskies football team requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. E. Fokker (talk) 20:26, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Consensus can change, it has in the past. The earlier merge proposal that you referenced on the Nationals talk page was not filed properly in accordance with WP:MERGE, which clearly says that the discussion should take place at the destination talk page, which I have done. The other discussion took place at the Expos talk page, which may have affected the outcome. Also you failed to give a policy reason for your opposition, since all Merge/deletion discussion are not votes, but are based on wikipedia policy and guidelines its usually customary to list a reason why you are either for or against a particular proposal. If you would like to do so now, it would be appreciated.--Jojhutton (talk) 00:46, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I am sorry to hear he died, just as I am sorry that all of the people died on the flight. I have no dog in this fight. I never heard of any of these people before today. I have been trying to keep track of which Alexander reportedly survived (Galimov or Sizov) -- apparently Galimov is the one who died -- and haven't been keeping track of Salei, except to remove an unregistered user's restoring of the text indicating that he Salei wasn't on the flight, when I know that was disputed. I did not mean to mess around with Salei, but the problem is that there is so much editing, including several instances of vandalism, by unregistered users, that by the time I am updating something another edit has gone through before my update goes through.

I am on your side - I am trying to keep out the OR, speculation, etc. If I deleted something I shoudn't have it was probably due to the above.

By the way -- the list of names add up to 44, not 45, last time I checked (see above), so it appears one name is missing. Yours, Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 18:34, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
