Hello!
Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.
- Pick an image name.
- When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
- Source the image.
- On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
- Provide copyright and license information.
- This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
- If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD-self}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD-self}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
- If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
- Describe the image.
- To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

Image tagging for Image:JeanGrey X3.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:JeanGrey X3.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
Thank you

Madonna
[edit]And the basis for moving the Madonna article was...? --Htmlism 17:35, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Unless you have a rational and logical reason for renaming the article, I intend to revert the name. --Mhking 22:34, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have reverted. Please don't move articles to idiosyncratic names without discussion. Jkelly 23:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- As above. I have moved the page back to Madonna (Entertainer).
- If you feel the article should be renamed, please start a vote on the talk-page. Also, her name has been agreed upon as being Madonna Louise Ciccone. Veronica is her chosen conformation name and is not added to her legal name. Please do not change this, as it will only be changed back. fritte 19:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Per Wikipedia's Manual of Style, the capital 'E' is incorrect. See, for example, Henry Ford (illustrator), John Smith (dentist), Richard Brooks (actor), Thomas Hastings (architect), and literally hundreds of others. There is no grammatical justification for capitalizing the 'e' in this title. The page has been moved back to Madonna (entertainer); please don't move it back. -GTBacchus(talk) 21:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Great photo! BTW, I've moved it to Wikimedia Commons. In your upload text, you said that you'd like for it to be included there--in the future, you can actually upload photos you shot to Commons directly. Just go to commons.wikimedia.org and sign up for a new account, uploading to there is the exact same as on Wikipedia.
Could I convince you to "co-license" this image, not only as GFDL, but as CC-BY? Creative Commons licenses are almost exactly the same as the GFDL. The only difference? GFDL requires people to publish a three-page license text when they use the photo, informing people that they are allowed to reuse the content. With Creative Commons, all people need to do is credit you as the photographer, no documents need to be included. -- Zanimum 19:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
This is really minor, but since I'm strict about grammar, I have to say this. "Proclaim herself" is grammatically incorrect. Either Janice proclaims (with an "s") herself, or they proclaim her. I believe that you read the sentence as "who" meaning "the judges", whereas I read "who" as "Janice Dickinson". SKS2K6 19:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Wow. You're really defensive. I'm not sure what you're talking about, but you can ask a admin: I am myself and myself only. Please see my user contributions: although I watch America's Next Top Model, my work is mostly on K-pop articles. I do not know why you think we're from the same country; he has no info on his user page, and he's probably in the States (and I'm not). And actually, it is "She always likes to play with dolls". The verb has to match with the noun. When using "he" or she", nouns need an "S". "I always like to" is correct. "She always like to" is not. "Always" is just a descriptor. Consider: "I always read my textbooks." "She always reads her textbooks."
- Please do not get so defensive. I was merely pointing out a mistake in a single sentence. I am not attacking you as a person or as an editor. I have read your comments on Elcda0's page, and...well, I don't wish to fight. If you are angry, that's understandable, but please do not use that as a license to attack. Wikipedia has pretty strict rules, and people are there to enforce them. All editors want is for the page to look its best without violating any laws. That is all. SKS2K6 17:35, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, if you want to move the page into another name discuss it first in it's talk page Thank you.--HW-Barnstar PLS 15:34, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Spice Girls Images
[edit]I am going to make this short and sweet, cos i believe other users have tirelessly remind you that there must a valid clear reasons to remove pics. I understand the removal of the main pic of the Spice Girls article is absolutely unnecessary as it has already been cleared that that image is under fair use as in the past, many people put in promo, calendar, album covers that do not qualify for main pic insertion.
Also do not unncessary tag the Geri Halliwell pic as unfair rationale as it is clearly a screenshot of her at the Brit Awards in 1997, under the illustration of British pop culture... If u are going to tag uch pics, firstly, do your homework by finding fair use images to replace instead of removing and leave blank, it doesnt do good for other users... much appreciated. Stealthusa 15:52, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you carefully read the text on {{tv-screenshot}}, you may notice where it asks for a fair use rationale: "...please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information".
- I'm not aware of any such homework requiring the finding and upload of alternative "fair use images" prior to the removal of problematic ones.
- Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 14:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Mary_Jane,_Spiderman_2_(2004).jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mary_Jane,_Spiderman_2_(2004).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 18:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm interested that you have tagged this image as GFDL, but given a fair use rationale. Are you really the copyright holder? Evil Monkey - Hello 22:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- I notice you have uploaded the image Image:Spice Girls Reunion.jpg with the {{db-i7}} fair use image tag. However, this tag seems unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Spice Girls Reunion.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
- If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Spice Girls Reunion.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{db-i7}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Evil Monkey - Hello 22:33, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Since you said in the fair use rational you took the picture with your own camara, I put it up under PUI. See the message below. —Andrew Hampe Talk 23:04, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Missing image Image:Spice Girls At Channel 5 Launch.jpg
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Spice Girls At Channel 5 Launch.jpg, by Kurt Shaped Box (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Spice Girls At Channel 5 Launch.jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Spice Girls At Channel 5 Launch.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:00, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Topmodel1.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Topmodel1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
