Hi! No worries about the "its" thing, it's a common mistake. I think the easiest way to keep it straight, until you totally get it down, is just to reread any sentence you've put "it's" in and substitute "it is" for "it's". If "it is" works in the sentence, use an apostrophe; otherwise don't.

Also, when leaving comments on talk pages, you can sign them like this: ~~~~. That will yield a signature like mine here: Chowbok 15:53, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to apologise for tearing into your contributions to Resident Evil Outbreak - I understand, it isn't fun when someone does that to your work. However, I'd like to see that information re-incorporated into the article, so please consider the suggestion I made at Talk:Resident_Evil_Outbreak. Hope we can get this sorted out. :) RandyWang 14:13, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry you weren't interested in this: either way, though, your contributions should find their way back into the article pretty quickly. Hope it helps. RandyWang 14:34, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey-thanks for the offer to help out with the Resident Evil stuff. I have no idea why I'm suddenly so passionate about cleaning up all the articles, but I'll definitely give you a shout if I'm confused about anything (which I'm sure is going to happen at some point). Thanks a bunch! Amphytrite 04:25, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We need your input![edit]

Hello Gamer Junkie. We need your opinion on a possible unified computer/video game character infobox, as well as several parameters for the current RE character infobox. Please see Template_talk:Resident_Evil_character. Thanks. --Mad Max 05:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Image copyright status[edit]

Greetings, Gamer Junkie. When I was uploading the various additional facial shots of the Deus Ex Minor characters, I accidentally forgot to denote the copyright status for the three shots mentioned. When I went back to change them, the system did not seem to read my changes. And deleting old versions appears to be limited to SysOps.

I'm an avid user of WikiPedia, but not a frequent editor (when it comes to images anyway), so I'll look into correcting the oversight.

Mediation[edit]

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Deus Ex mods, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.

Something I wrote that I'd like your input on[edit]

I'm not sure where this came from, or how off-base or on-target it is, but I started writing this today and it just kept coming. Let me know your thoughts on it. -- Y|yukichigai 02:56, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deus Ex mods article[edit]

Just so you know, I've found sources -- yes, honest-to-God sources -- to back up the list of mod links in the Deus Ex mods article, which I've restored. AMIB is refuting my claim that my sources are valid. I'd like your opinion on the matter. -- Y|yukichigai 08:29, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly, I'd be glad to chime in. I'm assuming it's the Deus Ex discussion page, right? I'll head over there now. Gamer Junkie 01:06, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it's on the Talk:Deus Ex mods page. -- Y|yukichigai 18:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I'm surprised to see that AMIB hasn't axed that article already. Gamer Junkie 05:01, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to create a list of getaway gangs/characters on the main page. It shouls go something like this:

Gang Name

Led By:

Information:

Blah, blah, blah {{Spoiler}} massive spoilers, etc.

I would like your input on this please--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 14:16, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Content Authoritarianism[edit]

FYI, I think I have something final-ish with the essay. For your future use you can now use the shortcut link WP:IKNOWBEST. That was the best shortcut I could come up with. Also, if you have any more input I'd be glad to hear it. -- Y|yukichigai 00:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Civility[edit]

I prefer bull-headed asshole. I'm happy to exchange good-natured insults, or simply see who can outdo whom in insulting me, in the proper context. Said proper context is not the edit summary log of article-space articles, however. Please refrain from doing that again. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 10:15, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't lecture me on civility whilst acting like a snide prick in the same post. It defeats the purpose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamer Junkie (talkcontribs)
I'm taking some rather rude comments in good humor. Please refrain from making the rude comments, because it strains the good humor of others. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 10:30, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No good humour here. Take them however you please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamer Junkie (talkcontribs)
The alternative is to take from your comments that you mean to be deliberatively inflammatory and disruptive, which I'd rather not. I don't particularly like blocking users, but putting a stop to disruption is what Special:Blockip is for. I urge you to choose a different course of action. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 10:41, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More policy? Why am I not surprised. I'm not being disruptive to Wikipedia, my comments are not directed towards Wikipedia. Are you finished yet? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamer Junkie (talkcontribs)

Well, they are on Wikipedia, but I just wanted you to chill with the insults, that's all. (I don't think we need a policy link for "Please don't insult people here.") "Special" namespace pages are dynamic pages, usually tools of some sort, not policy pages Special:Watchlist is your watchlist, Special:Recentchanges is a feed of the most recent edits, and Special:Blockip is the admin-only special page for blocking users. Special:Specialpages has a list of all the special pages; I can never remember if it shows all of the special pages, or only the special pages the viewer can use. (Pretty sure it's the latter.) - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 10:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What in the hell are you talking about? Don't tell me to chill out. Virtually everything I've added to the Resident Evil section of Wikipedia in the past couple of months has been deleted - by you - in less than three days, due to your ongoing merge fetish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamer Junkie (talkcontribs)
I would suggest not adding description of obscure characters in games sourced only to your personal experience with those games, then. It's unverifiable, and explaining in detail how a game works and giving players advice on how to play are both not part of this project.
I've seen you comment that you think I don't feel Wikipedia shouldn't have articles about games; that's not true at all. I think Wikipedia shouldn't have articles based on games, no more than Wikipedia should have articles based on cats or cheese or weather phenomena. Wikipedia articles should be based on published works, and can be about anything about which there's sufficient commentary in said published works. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 11:11, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at any Outbreak manual and you'd see that the information given about items and special actions is quite verifiable. I don't recall explaining how a game works, simply the most appropriate way to utilise the characters described in the articles. That IS why people look up video games on the Internet. Regarding that comment, you've obviously been playing Big Brother, so allow me to add that your disdain for anything video game related is blatently apparent. It's all just "cruft," after all. Regarding finding something else to edit, well, writing about ingrown toenails and Indian raindancing doesn't really appeal to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamer Junkie (talkcontribs)
We're not here to recap the manual. We're here to write about fictional things as artefacts in the real world, the same way we write about everything. The RE Outbreak manuals exist to inform people how to play and how the game works; that's not part of WP's mission.
If I didn't care about games, I wouldn't have spent a great deal of time trying to improve game articles, particularly in the case of Solid Snake, as well as others. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, a great deal many others. Whether or not they are actually being improved, however, is a matter of perspective, as one may draw the conclusion that they are simply being altered to better conform to your preferred presentation. Gamer Junkie 06:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Have you suggested reaching outside of your circle, then? When I quote policy I'm drawing on widely supported general principles. When I quote guidelines I'm drawing on widely-accepted methods for implementing those principles. If you don't think those principles are widely supported, why not look for wide support in other venues? WP:FICT has a talk page, as does WP:WAF. WP:CVG also has a talk page. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 06:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Call up my buddies? Not my style. I've been thinking about it and now I'm pretty sure that simply steering clear of this section would be best. I'm growing tired of all of this. I fight people at work for a living, I don't need to be doing it with people on the other side of the world when I'm killing time at home. I'm sure I'll find something else worth editing. Gamer Junkie 07:00, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The point is to call up people who aren't your buddies. Outside input. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:02, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When it comes to policy, you seem to have it down. I'm just going to assume that you know your stuff on this one. No point taking it any further. Gamer Junkie 07:05, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Minor Deus Ex characters[edit]

Thanks for letting me know about the situation. I’m just editing as I read, so not much is in vain. Regarding the spelling, where in the policy does it state that American English is not the standard? I hoped that when I changed the spelling to the American dialect, WP:MOS#National varieties of English may support me with “Articles that focus on a topic specific to a particular English-speaking country should generally conform to the usage and spelling of that country.” As an example, it lists “Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: British English usage and spelling”. If Tolkien’s novel is to be written in British English, shouldn’t Ion Storm’s game be written in American English? —LOL 21:30, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How long has this page existed? Forgive me, but I just got back from a New Years party and I'm not exactly in the best of conditions to go over the rules and guidelines. Anyway, you may be right, depending on consensus amongst editors who have left an opinion either opposing or agreeing with the guideline. I believe any guideline or policy less than at least a few months old is to be considered nothing more than WP:CREEP. The problem is that a lot of editors on Wikipedia like to go around creating guidelines, policies and rules and implementing them as they see fit. Readingover it, it looks fairly legitimate and established, although I wouldn't say the fact that Ion Storm was based in America makes it a "strong tie." I do believe there were members of foreign decendancy contributing to Deus Ex, right? Personally, I would usually go with Follow the dialect of the first contributer, or whoever uniformed all of it in the first place. In any case, it's not all that bothersome. I shouldn't have even brought it up. Gamer Junkie 21:47, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Zhang Jiao.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Zhang Jiao.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Re: List of Metal Gear Solid 3 characters[edit]

It's not Wikipedia's job to account for people who can't be bothered to listen to all the radio conversations. If they really wanted to know all that stuff the would sit through the radio conversations. Read WP:FICT and I will be removing the info again sometime. God I am turning into AMIB

†he Bread 03:18, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are. The fact that you realise it's a bad thing shows that you at least have some sense. That's hardly the only reason for providing the information. Why bother with a character page at all if it's only going to be done half-arsed? That page has already been chopped and cut to scrap. No images, no information, remove what's left and it's not even worth a person's time. Might as well just remove it altogether or merge the miniscule amount of information you wish to keep into the main article. Which, I'm sure, will probably be your next suggestion after removing most of the article. Gamer Junkie 02:53, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What we having the discussion here now? You don't know me, if you did, you'd know that I fought for weeks with AMIB to keep the MGS3 characters list seperate so don't go accussing me of being like that, i'll never be. Also I added the Boss image and argued for images for every character but WP:FU trumps. Now go look at List of Metal Gear Solid characters, ultimately my goal will be to make this list like that, a Featured List, at present the MGS characters list is the only characters list on the whole WP to be a FL. There will be new Images, Volgin, EVA and probably Sokolov will all have screenshots soon. I hate WP:FICT but I have to abide by it, and it states we should try and have real world info as opposed to plot summary or something like that.
†he Bread 22:55, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, your talk page states that you wish to have discussions on the pages of those who contact you. Secondly, the reason MGS characters is the only "Featured" list on Wikipedia is because, frankly, branching pages are almost entirely ignored. If you've read WP:FICT, you'll notice this: "Wikipedia articles on works of fiction should contain real-world context and sourced analysis, offering detail on a work's achievements, impact or historical significance, not solely a summary of that work's plot. A plot summary may be appropriate as an aspect of a larger article." The article itself states that game summary is allowed, so long as real-world information is provided alongside it, which has also been written into the descriptions if you read them closely. To sum it up, I understand you have grand ambitions for FA status regarding this particular article, I simply don't see why it cannot be acheived without having to sum up each character in one paragraph. And there is nothing to say that it can't. The members who continually hurl these guidelines in our direction tend to only follow the aspects that they approve of. Read it for yourself and you will see this. Gamer Junkie 02:53, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In regard to the talk page thing i meant having it alternating between one anothers talk page, but this is fine. You make a good point about WP:FICT. Take a look at this template

{{plot}}

It is a warining for having overly long plot summary, we aren't supposed to reiterate the plot, plot is seen as being less important than real world info. Also Trivia is another thing. Trivia is info that is interesting without being important (see WP:AVTRIV). We need the important things about the characters than define them, take Para-Medic the important things are

  • Helps out with medical advice
  • Saves the game
  • Likes movies (they are mentioned almost everytime you save)

Being a Japanophile or whatever isn't important neither is her or any characters height, weight, breast size, favourite food or favourite sport (see WP:WAF).

†he Bread 03:33, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't read the article today, but I don't recall any of that last stuff, although I would agree in that regard. The "Japanophile" thing alludes to how often she mentions or relates things to the Japanese society or culture, as you would probably already know. This includes noodles, mushrooms, CalorieMate, Kerotan and virtually everything that isn't about movies. The problem I have with policy being so steadfastly reinforced by particular editors is that each policy so often contradicts another. This, in my opinion, makes these guidelines unreliable. Also, looking at each entry, I don't actually see where a whole lot of the game's plot has been described. The End's entry details his battle with Snake, but doesn't really go into it. Each description is based primarily around each character's background. In any case, do as you please, I won't add any further information to the article. Just don't let a few bureaucrats strip away everything of actual use to the reader for the sake of yet another sweeping policy. Half of it is just information creep now anyway. Guidelines being created and enforced by editors and administrators attempting to keep absolute control over a project that isn't supposed to be controlled absolutely. Gamer Junkie 04:58, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I agree with you there.

Re: Lu Bu image[edit]

You're off the mark, actually. I personally love the game to bits, but I just think Dynasty Warriors shouldn't be given so much emphasis as compared to other modern references (like other Three Kingdoms games, for example) And I just happen to prefer the official artworks to the sprites for images, that's all. Thanks for your concern. _dk 11:10, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yea...I realize it's difficult for most people to write about other three kingdom games since most of them aren't sold outside Asia, but that's an unfortunate systemic bias I guess. Part of the reason people are more tolerant of RoTK is because the novel is like the Chinese equivalent to Shakespeare (and frankly, not many people, even Chinese people, can tell the difference between written history and the novel for the Three Kingdoms)....Anyways, I myself don't mind the games' mention, I just think it's better to have some balance (for example, if an officer gets a whole section on his game appearance with stats and all, but only a few sentences on his life....then that's bad) _dk 01:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Shinobido[edit]

Hi Gamer Junkie,

I think a better idea for creating the Shinobido disambig page would be to MOVE the original article to Shinobido: Way of the Ninja, then edit the redirect page created at Shinobido. This would preserve the edit history of the original article.

If it's okay with you, I'd suggest blanking and speedy deleting Shinobido: Way of the Ninja, reverting Shinobido back to the article about the game, then moving the article rather than cutting-and-pasting it. Cheers, FiggyBee 00:49, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the edition on Leon.[edit]

That's a pure authentic scanlated page from the manga. And It is certainly a tribute on the author's part with the addition of Shaun (cameo) and other related forms of literature (the meteor, Battle Royale, etc.). I do not intend to vandalize the page, just add information. If this is a problem in the future, feel free to delete it. And thanks for guiding me through the use of discussions. You make a good admin, Gamer. later~ HiranoKouta —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HiranoKouta (talkcontribs) 15:43, 24 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

It seems he takes his job seriously. Bah I'm not gonna waste my time convincing him and providing more and more evidence to spoil the manga (which I could, but like the latter, I want future fans to find out the obvious). That page alone is evident enough (with the fire and the burning bodies and the truck that crashed with them earlier. ) to show that it is a homage to Resident Evil and other zombie works. Thank you for informing me about this anyway, you've been a great help. later~ HiranoKouta

License tagging for Image:Pang De.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pang De.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:08, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Glock discussion[edit]

I was looking at the discussion and it is terribly cumbersome. Would you mind me posting a summary at the top such as this?

  • In favor of "GLOCK" - Proponents of this approach assert that the GLOCK company spells their name in all caps and as such, Wikipedia should follow suit. They cite WP:IAR as policy and give articles such as iTunes, FireWire, GameCube, DreamWorks, and RealPlayer as examples. They assert that all caps enhances the GLOCK article(s), and that "Glock" is an incorrect use of the name.

Yeah? No? Care to modify?

Also, I posted the RfC on Jan. 18th. Would it be ok with you if I archived the discussion Feb. 18th?

If at that time the concensus has changed, I will myself change all Glock references to GLOCK immediately after archiving. I will place a note and a link to the archived discussion on the Glock talk page. The note would have the summary I wrote above preceded by...

A discussion and a consencus has been reached on this topic. The concensus at the time of discussion was XXX. An archive of the discussion can be found here. (<--link) The basic arguments given were this...
(summary)
Further discussion is welcomed in this section.

Something like that. Yeah? No? Thernlund (Talk | Contribs) 20:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. How about adding the summary statments? They look ok to you? If so and you have no problem with me putting them in there now, I'll pop them in there. -Thernlund (Talk | Contribs) 07:18, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then. Done. But... I added the following...
...and that all caps "GLOCK" is a marketing device used by the Glock company.
...to the "Glock" summary. It was an assertation by a couple folks in favor of "Glock". However being that I added it last minute without an agreement, I'll remove it if you want. Buuuutt... otherwise it's done. -Thernlund (Talk | Contribs) 20:23, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right. It was a point made by the "Glock" camp. I could add a brief counter point to the "GLOCK" summary. Maybe...
They assert that "Glock" is an incorrect use of the name, and that regardless of marketing status, all caps enhances the GLOCK article(s).
Yeah? No? -Thernlund (Talk | Contribs) 20:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, let me tell you this: there is no individual Liu Bei portrait for the DW5 artbook (because his portrait IS the one with his brothers...I know because I used to have the book). Walther P22 dispute[edit]

An article which you have edited, Talk:Walther P22#Request for Comment: Walther P22 – is involved in a dispute requiring inputs from editors to develop a consensus for editors to follow on whether or not mention of the Virginia Tech Massacre should be mentioned in the firearm article, or if mention in the VT Massacre article of the firearms used, with a link back to the Walther P22 article, is adequate. Thank you. Yaf 23:30, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm dealing with this thing on two seperate articles already. I'd have thought by now that emotions wouldn't still be running rampant regarding this event. Obviously I was wrong, so I'll take a look. Gamer Junkie 06:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. I just made a comment on the P22 talk about (what I think is) a common argument, but you might want to make sure I'm not speaking out of turn. Anyway, keep fighting the good fight... Cmprince 22:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC) Thanks, I'll take a look, but this guy Alyeska is clearly a bigot and I don't discuss anything with them. Gamer Junkie 22:42, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there; I have let up somewhat on the issue for now. To my way of thinking, a "See also" link does not imply any primacy or causality; merely that something is tangentially related (which I think is fair for the VT shooting). At any rate, I hope it will let the edit warring die down, and if in six months time we look back at it and decide that even as a tangent it doesn't deserve mention, it'll be easier to remove without so many emotionally-driven editors watching over it. I was primarily concerned with making sure that nobody tried to put their idea of "context" into the article where none existed. Many happy edits to you! Cmprince 22:09, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to have a look in on Talk:Walther P22 again. Griot has canvassed only those users who want to keep the VT mention in the article, so I am alterting those who were not yet contacted. There has been discussion on WP:ANI about the outcome of the previous polls. Your continued involvement in the discussion(s) would be welcomed. ··coelacan 22:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Meng Huo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Meng Huo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2007, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 23:23, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

archiving[edit]

How about I teach you how to do it?

It's very easy.

Currently the page is Talk:Walther P22. You're going to want to insert a link at the top of the talk page, entitled Archives, wikilinked to Talk:Walther P22/Archive1. You should likely format it like this Archive 1. It will now be a redlink. Then edit the MAIN talk page, and cut everything from the bottom of the page, up to the header of the page, leaving in any infoboxes and relevant information that needs to stay at the top. Then, go back to the newly created redlink, and paste it in. Save both pages, with the edit summary "Archiving page to Talk:Walther P22/Archive1, and you're good to go. SWATJester Denny Crane. 05:42, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note: the slash in the archives is VERY important, it designates that it is a subpage, rather than a new article. You can do this on user pages and user talks too. See my userpage and user talk for a more complex example (User:Swatjester goes to a directory, my main user page is at Swatjester/Main). You can also request one of the 3 MiszaBot's to auto archive for you. One is for user talk, one is for article talk, and one is for project talk pages. SWATJester Denny Crane. 05:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You really shouldn't even need to do that. A safe bet, is to archive everything that has not been actively discussed in the past 14 days. Just use your common sense: if the issue is resolved, and not likely to be continued, go ahead and archive it. You don't need approval to archive: if someone has a problem, they'll revert it. As for you, just be WP:BOLD and do it: you can't actually break anything in the archival process, so no need to worry. I do it all the time when I come across a talk page that has the "length" warning on it. SWATJester Denny Crane. 14:09, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bouncer[edit]

Hello. I am currently looking at your rewrite. While it seems good enough on the face of it, it is dangerously close to WP:OR. Can you please make an effort to get references, while I do the same and condense some of the longer sections? MadMaxDog 02:16, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Lets continue this here, I hate the fact that half the conversation is on eone page, half on yours. I am not challenging your experience. What you wrote sound good to me (though I hope you don't take offense that I will still rewrite a lot, I find that it could be shorter and still contain pretty much the same info).
The fact however, lets be blunt is that exactly by providing your experience, you are doing original research. Anyone else can come along, claim (correctly or fraudulently) that they worked in the business for even longer, and basically change everything 180 degrees. Thats not how it should be - it should be referenced.
Right now, any administrator could come along and, fully according to Wikipedia guidlines delete almost the whole article, except maybe the lead entry paragraph and the external links, and there would be no defense that I could bring except a lame "Uuuuh... give me a little time to research and see if I can find stuff...?".
I'd like to get in earlier than that.
So it would be good to make a search for references before that happens. Newspapers, laws, official bodies, maybe even academic articles - would all be good. It does not need to reference everything right from the start - but an article getting longer and longer without any references - thats just asking for a problem.MadMaxDog 02:35, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, go ahead and rewrite it how you see fit. Hunting down references annoys the hell out of me, especially when I don't even know where to start. I just thought I'd rework what was already there in more detail and better outline the job for those who would look it up, since the article already in place seemed lacklustre and poorly written. If you'd prefer an overview to comply with Wikipedia's guidelines then do what you will. Just make sure you don't reduce the article to a footnote in the process. Gamer Junkie 02:43, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome to continue working on it any time. But somebody else already placed an advert tag on the article, for example. And references are the baseline of Wikipedia - without them this would just be a big free-for-all talk page... MadMaxDog 03:06, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the tag and I'm not overly interested in doing anymore to the article. As you may have noticed by my user name, my interests and the bulk of my additions are in the CVG project section. I only rephrased the bouncer article because it sounded so self-indulgent and boorish. However, it would appear as though some (such as the user who tagged the article) find this to still be the case. Whatever, I'm done with it now, so it's all yours. wikiproject plan[edit]

Here's a plan:

  1. Read Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide
  2. Create a barebones project page, most likely copy/pasted/edited/modified from something like WP:MILHIST. From the very beginning this page should make and stress the explicit goal of separating fact from fiction and installing a standardized procedure for page sections ... we should probably make it in someone's user space, then move into WP space if enough people wanna help.
  3. Put up a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals.
  4. Spam the talk pages of folks you think might be interested.
  5. Wait. If you build it, they will come. or so we hope.  :-)

Holy shit, that's long. So basically we rephrase this thing, stating our intentions to clearly define fact from fiction in articles related to Chinese historical figures, right? Gamer Junkie 23:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) It'll almost certainly be much shorter when we're done. We'll take out anything we don't need. And yes, that's the idea... I'm gonna copy this entire conversation to the talk page of that one.... Ling.Nut 23:51, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP3K[edit]

When i first started editing and focusing on Three Kingdoms-related articles in 2005 i already put that format into action: a formal historical section followed by a ROTK section. People later decided to add modern references secion at the bottom, and the current style of sections with decreasing historical credibility eventually developed. i'm of course in full support of the formalization of this course. i'll also try to be as active as possible on the project. It's really nice to see such solidarity within this niche Wikipedia community interested in the Three Kingdoms. :) --Plastictv 04:12, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gamer Junkie, I'm user Mmmundo. I couldn't help but notice that you are phenomenal as well as dedicated asset to the Resident Evil articles. I greatly admire all your input and intelligence you have put into making these articles some of the best and entertaining articles that I have seen so far on Wikipedia! I as you greatly enjoy these games. I also noticed on your user page that you said that you are running out of things to edit, and I thought that I could maybe help with that. You see, I'm a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Digimon. Our goal is to organize, expand, clean up, and guide Digimon related articles on Wikipedia. I think that we could really use someone like you who is hardworking and dedicated. Thanks, it's good to know that my efforts are appreciated. I'd like to help you however I can, although I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure what I could do to assist since I've never actually seen an episode of Digimon in my life. If there's anything I could help you with (in regards to maintianing the articles without actually adding to the plot and character descriptions, I'd be happy to assist. Once again, thanks for the feedback, flattery will get you everywhere :) Gamer Junkie 22:04, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Gan_Ning.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gan_Ning.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:54, 5 July 2007 (UTC). Obi Wan![edit]

Hi GJ,

  • Saw you gettin' feisty over at Talk:Cao Cao. :-) Did you catch this thread while you were temporarily away from you Wikipedia desk?
  • Speaking purely for myself, I'm really counting heavily on you to be the shepherd of the game-related stuff. I agree with the IP contributor that the game sections sometimes have too much info... e.g, "...for his signature move, hold the left button while pushing the right one three times" or something like that... but I trust your judgment over mine regarding what should or should not be in an encyclopedia. Help me, Obi Wan, you're my only hope! Ling.Nut 12:57, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Totally agree with that. I've been deleting all game guide stuff as I come across it, but the info I leave is always relevant and informative. But I don't think the anon's gonna have much interest in "working" with me, since he/she appears to want virtually everything in modern references cut down to footnotes, memos and vague, one line nothings. Probably just another pompous historian threatened by the encroaching hoardes of video game rubes and philistines threatening to stupify Three Kingdoms into a pop culture media behemoth. Well, it's too late for that, but at least I'll be here to make sure it doesn't step over the line. Not so sure if anon's gonna be comforted by that, though. But yeah, I'll do my job here, you can count on that. And we are friends, so you can call me Ben. Obi Wan's so Old Republic :) Gamer Junkie 13:10, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, please try to make nice with the anon anyhow. We need all the help we can get! :-) Besides, you may be able to find a middle ground.
  • Dude, Annie Hall? I have never been able to think of the Academy Awards since 1977 without realizing how often they're a poopie-farce. May the farce be with you. Ling.Nut 14:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a mission for you, Obi Wan![edit]

Nah, we just need to reference them fully and properly. Not every newspaper article is available on the internet. BTW, did you get what I meant about Annie Hall? I later thought maybe I was too cryptic. I meant, Annie Hall beat Star wars for the Oscar.. I dunno if Star wars was even nominated for best picture.. now Annie Hall gathers dust in the darker corners of various public libraries, and Star wars is still alive.. and was better by every measure, anyhow... Ling.Nut 01:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, yeah I got it. I have an old high school friend who was madly obssessed with everything Star Wars and loved to bring up interesting little facts about how Star Wars was "too brilliant for its time" and such. Of course, the abovementioned is one piece of evidence often cited by him during arguments. I didn't much care for the films until he got me into them... and the games... and the comics... and everything else SW. I think I was the only bouncer in Australia who read Star Wars novels :) Gamer Junkie 01:47, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) I think maybe you took the wrong tack on the first point. You see, the whole point of the newspaper's article is to announce the statue.. but the statue isn't our main point, it's the park that the statue is in... does that make sense? You gotta squeeze what you want to communicate (the target) out of what they said (the source). Don't say what they said; use their words to say what you want to say. That's what scholars do for a living. ;-) Ling.Nut 03:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought we were pointing out the statue. Oh well, the park it is. Is that picture in Su Shi's article the same statue? We could use it. Gamer Junkie 03:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is! If it isn't, no one will know the difference... I might be offline for a couple days.. or might not... I dunno.. later! :-) Ling.Nut 04:00, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, okay we'll use it. See you round. Gamer Junkie 04:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to interrupt...they're not the same statue. Hangzhou and Red Cliffs are provinces apart. (oooh, busted.) _dk 04:10, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

<waving arms!> No no no! Did you read my section? They claim that is the location. Of course, no geographers/historians agree, but still, that doesn't stop them... Ling.Nut 04:18, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you confused Huangzhou (黃州) the Red Cliff candidate with Hangzhou (杭州) where this statue is. _dk 04:21, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah... it was... a... hypothetical discussion... Gamer Junkie 04:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Does this mean I have to give you back the two points you lost when you didn't know translations could be copyrighted/Wikipedia translations are WP:OR? :-) Cr*p. OK, take your stinking points. I'm gonna take my ball and go home! Ling.Nut 04:28, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) PS But there is a statue in Huangzhou too, see this. Ling.Nut 04:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I could put that in, but probably won't. Gamer Junkie 04:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Put what in? BTW, good catch, dk. :-) Ling.Nut 05:00, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that there's another statue in Huangzhou, but that's kinda not relevant, eh? That's why I said I probably won't. Gamer Junkie 05:16, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) No, the statue in Huangzhou is relevant. It's in the "Su Dongpo's Red Cliffs" park. The one in Hangzhou isn't. Ling.Nut 05:41, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

heh heh heh, it was after midnight when I spell checked. :-) Change it any way you like, as long as it's consistent. I dunno about Chinese using BritEng. I bet AmerEng has surpassed it (though of course HK folk would use BE). Thanks! Ling.Nut 03:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care either way. It's just that guidelines say that you should use the form of language officially used by the country/person in question. I honestly thought that China taught and used British English as the official standard. And with us using Kilometres in the article as opposed to miles, it would be more consistent this way. Gamer Junkie 03:08, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
we have a question about china.. hmm.. what should we do... what... should... we... do... I know! Let's ask Nlu! :-) Actually, my understanding is that either way is OK as long as it's consistent. I'm pretty sure I've seen tons of articles about China in AmerEng. But change it to BritEng if you like. :-) I don't care, as long as it's consistent. Ling.Nut 03:12, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you can do it when it's consistent, too. Let's put it to everybody on the project and see what they think. I'll do that later, since I have to go now. Cheers. Gamer Junkie 04:11, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re:FF8 surnames[edit]

He is the only one who is voicing concern with the surnames, but a compromise might help prevent any future instances that may occur if there are others with similar views. As far as a couple in-game character screenshots, I think he makes a good point. At least one (preferably of the entire cast) would be good; I just don't have the time (sadly) to fire up the emulator and play 20 hours to get to that basketball court sequence. — Deckiller 11:25, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritics[edit]

Hi, I saw your message on User:Chochopk's page and there is something I want to address. While diacritics aren't necessary for Chinese articles, the Manual of Style for Japan related articles specifically says to use Hepburn romanization...which includes the use of ō's and ū's. So the articles you showed Chochopk....none of them needs to be moved. Just thought I'd let you know. _dk 06:43, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay thanks. Yeah, I wasn't sure, but I thought I'd give it in anyway. Also, why one set of rules for Chinese articles and one for Japanese articles? Seems we should try to maintain a little consistency at least. Gamer Junkie 06:48, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because...they're different languages. We can't impose one language's rules on another. _dk 07:11, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seems more like Wiki rules than language rules. Why restrict the Chinese articles then? Gamer Junkie 07:14, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's like the situation with "Lu Bu" and "Lü Bu". Though for Japanese articles they can use "ou" instead of "ō" (another rominization method), someone high up decided that diacritics are more academic for Japanese articles. _dk 07:16, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then. You'd know, so I'll take your word for it. Gamer Junkie 07:26, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: David[edit]

David Ford died early morning of the 28th between 1-2.30 a.m . His RE3 memo states that "it's the 27th", and that they are going to a meeting in the RPD meeting room (in three hours) to discuss what to do. He also states he'll commit suicide, yet he doesn't as he's present at the meeting room three hours later (early morning 28th). The Operation Report from RE2 states that in the early morning between 1-2.30 of the 28th, the operation room was overrun and four people died, including David. Another note that seems mixed up in the article is "David flees the battle", he does, but not the battle of the 28th. David fled a battle when zombies managed to break into the RPD some time after the initial zombie attack. This occurred on the 26th, and Meyer died as result. If you break it down you get the following timeline:

26th: Zombies attack the RPD.
26th: Sometime later during the 26th zombies get into the RPD and kill more men. David runs instead of helping Meyer.
27th: David writes his RE3 report about his guilt of Meyers death. He indicates he means to use his shotgun on himself, and that a meeting is being held 3 hours later.
28th: During the meeting the zombies overrun the operation room. David and three other people are killed, leaving only Elliot and three other survivors who try and escape through the sewers. David's presence indicates that he did not actually kill himself three hours earlier, for whatever reason. ParjayTalk 14:59, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Kabuto and the Taraba.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Kabuto and the Taraba.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Destiny of an Emperor[edit]

Hello, Firsfron. I noticed your minor change (it's > its) to the Destiny of an Emperor article and thought perhaps you could clear something up for me. I noticed the incorrect grammar when I added the sentence, however, since it's contained within a direct quote, I was unsure whether or not I could correct it. Isn't altering quotes in any way a violation of policy? Gamer Junkie 09:44, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gamer Junkie!
Thanks for the head's-up! We should not alter direct quotes, but it was not clear to me that this is how it was spelled in the original; if you add a sentence which has incorrect grammar, add [sic] or [sic] to the incorrect part to let the copyeditor know that it's really the mistake of the source, not Wikipedia. You can read sic for more details. I should mention that the source you're using ("Destiny of an Emperor Walkthrough") isn't a great source, and these sorts of self-published pages are more likely to contain amateurish spelling and grammar: the sorts of pages we want to avoid when sourcing articles. I have adjusted it so the sentence will probably not be corrected again, but watch out for quotes like this, and consider finding quotes which don't make the cited source look amateurish. Hope this helps!  :) Firsfron of Ronchester 09:59, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for your note, GJ. It's fine if you want to use a web source, but you're not required to do so. WP:CITET shows any number of example sources you can use to cite a review; no scans or uploads to the web are necessary, as long as it's a full citation (author, publisher, ISBN, date, page number, etc). ??? The date of the battle (208 CE) has nothing to do with the date of the Han Dynasty's collapse (220 CE). I fail to see how simply stating when the dynasty fell apart could be misleading to a reader.--Pericles of AthensTalk 23:27, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STARS[edit]

Please do not delete content from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Richard Aiken. Your edits do not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox for test edits. Thank you.

Your references are blacklisted. They'll be deleted by somebody else very soon. Gamer Junkie 07:45, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The reference is a repository of files pulled from the actual game itself. Additionally, Richard's status as a playable character (which you also deleted) has been confirmed by other reputable sources which were also included in the article. Your concern is appreciated, but it is not justification for baseless accusations of vandalism and for improper deletion of content. Zyid 07:49, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's few and far between when somebody makes a legitimate edit to the RE-related articles, so I'm generally inclined to remove an edit when the first sentence reads something like "Richard Aitken is Bravo Team's BUM". Like I said, I'm not going to remove it anymore, but the site is still blacklisted as uncredible and a source of fandom/gossip, regardless of how true the source is. I could pull a sentence from a forum stating that Enrico Marini is the leader of Bravo Team and, whilst true, it would be deleted because of the source it drew from. It will be deleted. Gamer Junkie 08:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the heads-up, and if the administrators see fit to delete the portions that draw upon the files from the game I will simply seek a different source of said files such as the Official Prima Guide.
Nonetheless, you deleted content derived not only from the source in question, but also from Famitsu magazine, which was properly cited. That is absolutely a hasty and improper removal of content. Furthermore, you leveled an unfounded accusation of vandalism. I believe now that you made a genuine and understandable mistake, but you did make a mistake. Zyid 08:40, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You'll notice that I marked my comment as "Vandalism... I think" so that whoever added it could revert my change should they disagree. Gamer Junkie 09:24, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
