[edit]Hello, I'm Engr. Smitty. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to St. Thomas Transit—has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thank you. Engr. Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to St. Thomas Transit. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 15:02, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Welcome Ttiersma!
I'm Sm8900, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

If you need further help, you can: | or you can: | or even: |

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}
on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes
~~~~
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
Sincerely, Sm8900 (talk) 16:18, 11 December 2020 (UTC) (Leave me a message)
Edits
[edit]First, as you say you work for the organization your edits are related you, please review the conflict of interest and paid editing policies and make the required formal declaration(which is a Terms of Use requirement) on your user page(or this page).
Second, please understand that Wikipedia articles are meant to summarize what independent reliable sources say, and not what the subject wants to say about itself(either directly or through a representative). One of your edits advertised a new service your organization is offering, and another described how fares can be purchased. Neither of these is acceptable Wikipedia content and would be more appropriate for a website owned by your organization or city. Wikipedia does strive to be accurate, but is not meant as a place for up to the minute current information. It tends to be behind the curve as it takes time for independent sources to report on what primary sources say. However, certain primary source information is acceptable, such as logos and other basic information like location, number of employees etc.
As you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid directly editing articles related to your organization, but you are permitted to make formal edit requests(click for instructions) detailing changes you feel are needed, preferably sourced to independent reliable sources if possible. Please understand that Wikipedia's primary goal is to build an encyclopedia of human knowledge. To be frank, Wikipedia is not concerned with what your superiors have tasked you with doing as, again, we primary summarize independent sources unconnected with an article subject. Your organization has no more rights to the article than any other editor- it actually has less due to conflict of interest. Please read WP:OWN and perhaps this FAQ page for more information. 331dot (talk) 16:43, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
