A tag has been placed on your user page, User:XOTICPCINC/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy deletion candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Katieh5584 (talk) 19:27, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created User:XOTICPCINC/sandbox, and I noticed that your username, "XOTICPCINC", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87". Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Katieh5584 (talk) 19:27, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am confused as to why my company was tagged for deletion, but yet there are hundreds of other similar companies that have had wiki pages for some time.. any insite would be helpful. I would like to have a wiki page setup so that users have an overview of our product offering. I do not wish to break any rules and if a 'company' page is not allowed, please advise.
Here is a list of a few companies that we directly compete with that have running wiki pages:

I replied on 'TALK' by 'editing' the TALK article. I hope this was the correct way to respond to an editor's note regarding my wiki page submission. Before I even received confirmation that my page was to be deleted, it was deleted. I was hoping to find out why exactly and make sure I fix the issues. I also pointed out that my page was not unlike several others and was hoping to get clarification on this.

In short, what you wrote was a blatant advertisement, something that's not permitted on Wikipedia. Not citing reliable third-party sources such as newspapers or reputable tech magazines didn't quite help, either. Huon (talk) 21:08, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Update

[edit]

Should I be replying to the emails directly or leaving my reply here? The reply to my comments comes via email but when I check 'Talk' there is nothing added to this page. Anyway, since I am working in my sandbox, I am simply saving my current work as a 'draft'. I had not finished with the article and did not request review except to confirm that I was in line with wiki rules. Maybe I should not have requested a review because it was perceived to have been a finished article. I still had planned to source the article with references (3rd party) but had not gotten to that section yet. Am I still able to do this and why are other companies (blatant advertising) allowed to post wiki's . I gave examples in earlier comment. Thank you for the quick responses. I only wish to be able to have an article similar to other companies in our industry, but do not wish to break any wiki rules. Please advise. Thank you. You should reply on the talk page. The email is a notification feature that tells you when a new comment has been added; it's not written by the author of that comment, and I doubt a reply to the email would reach a human being.
Regarding your draft, your tone was far more promotional than either of the pages you point out (which are problematic enough as-is). You even spoke of the article subject in the first person. But even if you had indeed found other articles that were just as bad as your draft (and I don't doubt such articles exist), that would still not justify you writing an advertisement on Wikipedia. Each article must stand on its own merits. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. We should improve bad articles instead of using them as an excuse for writing yet another bad article.
You should also take a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest. Writing about the company you work for is not a good idea because it's very difficult to do so from a neutral point of view, as your draft proved. Huon (talk) 00:15, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reply. I will go through the article and clean it up for sure and will look to have a 3rd party post if needed. I appreciate the help. We had noticed others having wiki's and wanted to do the same. I will make sure any additional article that is written is within the guidelines. Again, thank you. Your attention needed at WP:CHU

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. Tyrol5 [Talk] 13:17, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I need help understanding why people are not able to find the article that I have created. When users search for XOTIC PC, nothing comes up. It appears that my edits to the previous article (that was requested for deletion) were accepted, as I have not received any warning. I want to make sure that I am following all protocol for my article. Please advise.

I expect you're referring to your user page. That's not an article (see the "User:" prefix in the title), and it's still too promotional to become an article. Also, you're still very short on reliable sources that are independent of Xotic, and significant claims in that page are not based on the given sources at all. Also, that page hasn't been "accepted". If you want to write an article about Xotic, I'd suggest you use the Article Wizard to write a draft and submit it for a review by an experienced editor. Huon (talk) 19:53, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I see the issue now with the 'user page' vs. an article. I will also work to add more relevant references and submit through proper channels.

Additional comment

[edit]

Thank you for your email I prefer talk page conversations because I keep my email address protected. I have added a lengthy comment on the draft article which I know will be useful, but will create work for you. User:Timtrent/A good article may be of some use, too. Thank you for the reply. I left a message in another area I think. I am still learning wikipedia.. its a bit more confusing than I expected it to be. Is there an example that you can cite of an acceptable reference for something similar thats included in my article? I want to make sure that I am looking for the right kind of references. Xpc2014 (talk) 13:47, 30 June 2014 (UTC)johnclark[reply]

I can do even better. I can show you a whole host of good articles. Look at Wikipedia:Good articles and select several at random. The criteria to look for in a reference are:
  • It is independent of the entity, and
  • It has significant coverage, not just a passing mention, and
  • The source is a Reliable source
These can be hard to find. If you think one is ok but doubt it, WP:RSN lets you ask questions about resources for articles. Make sure you link to the article and the reference if you ask a question there.
Wikipedia is simple, but it is not at all easy. Fiddle Faddle 13:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted - that is not what Wikipedia user pages are for, and it is still there in the Draft namespace. JohnCD (talk) 18:29, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:XOTIC PC

[edit]

Hello Xpc2014. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "XOTIC PC".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:XOTIC PC}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 10:23, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
