The WWE Performance Center is a professional wrestling school, as well as a training, sports science, and sports medical facility owned and operated by WWE in Orlando, Florida, that opened July 11, 2013.

Background

The Performance Center is home to WWE’s talent developmental system, WWE NXT.[1] There is also a voice-over room that performers and on-air announcers can use to practice.[2]

Leading up to the opening, the headquarters for WWE's former developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, was shut down as WWE transferred NXT's headquarters to the Performance Center. Ring equipment and other materials held at the FCW Arena in Tampa were broken down on June 28, 2013. WWE transferred what they chose to keep to the new facility.[3] Ryan Katz (a.k.a. GQ Money) was hired to work as an associate producer at NXT. He noted on Twitter that he was unloading and setting up 33,000 pounds of weights and equipment.[4] Also included were an ultra slow cameras and a special ring for high flying moves,[5]

Attending the opening were WWE executive Paul "Triple H" Levesque and Florida Governor Rick Scott. "I love anybody that brings jobs to our state," Scott said. "They have all this talent here. Everyone when they come here to work here, they want to stay here. Every job is important."[6]

The Performance Center uses former wrestler as trainers, including Bill DeMott, Billy Gunn and Joey Mercury.[7] WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes trains future wrestlers on how to best express themselves on the microphone and let their personalities shine through.[8] The female wrestlers have their own female trainer, Sara Del Rey.[9]

After the aperture, WWE signed some new trainers, such as former WWE wrestler and Ohio Valley Wrestling Trainer Nick Dinsmore and British wrestler Robbie Brookside.[10][11] WWE also offered a contract to then-NWA World Heavyweight Champion Rob Conway, but he declined the offer.[12] The Performance Center includes some guest trainers, including Mickie James and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce.[13][14]

The WWE Performance center has been used for try outs. Individuals including NFL star Shawne Merriman,[15] The American Wolves, Bestia 666,[16] and Kenta[17] have tried out at the Performance Center.
