Mass-mail subscription list shells

[edit]

Below is a list of empty shells that are available for use in the mass message subscription list content model. To use one, go to the page, and move it to the title you want. These pages should typically only be moved to the User and Project namespaces. New shells can be created by administrators and template editors.

RFC notifications bot down

[edit]

I've written a brief message at User:WhatamIdoing/MassMessage to all the editors listed at Wikipedia:Feedback request service#Wikipedia policies and guidelines, to let them know that they shouldn't expect any notifications for the foreseeable future. Could someone please send this?

Thanks, WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:23, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @WhatamIdoing, just a friendly reminder to use the request format when making mass message request. A little glitch during MMS delivery could lead to unintended spam on pages that aren't relevant. Thanks for your attention to this! – DreamRimmer (talk) 01:35, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DreamRimmer, where is the request format documented? WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:28, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not documented anywhere, but you can see above requests. It would be easy for us to send this way. :) – DreamRimmer (talk) 02:32, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Found it, see here. – DreamRimmer (talk) 02:35, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
At Wikipedia talk:Mass message senders § MassMessage Delivery Requests, if you select the "add request" link, then the text box will be preloaded with the standard format. (The format is essentially based on the one I used back in 2014.) isaacl (talk) 07:38, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes SentDreamRimmer (talk) 08:12, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, DreamRimmer.
Isaacl, the instructions at Wikipedia:Mass message senders#Requesting a mailing say only "Requests for mailings may be made on the talk page" (that's a link to this talk page in general, not to the section heading). Perhaps that should be updated? WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:43, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WhatamIdoing Just scroll down a bit and find the "Add Request" option below the MassMessage Delivery Requests section. Once you click on it, a ready-made format will open in the edit box, making it super easy for you to fill in the details as needed. – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:53, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I think requests should be split off onto their own page (see previous discussions in 2018, 2022, and earlier this year). There doesn't appear to be much interest, though, amongst those who hold the mass message delivery privileges. In the meantime, I've changed the wikilink for the text "made" (which points to the specific section in question) so the full link text is "made on the talk page". isaacl (talk) 18:42, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GAN backlog drive message

[edit]

Would someone please deliver me the GAN backlog drive message my fellow collaborators are receiving. I have reviewed one successful GA-Queen Camilla- and nominated one-Catherine, Princess of Wales- both after October last year. Yet I have received no messages from MediaWiki message delivery on my talk page. Please take up the matter for consideration so that I receive talk page messages in the future.

Thanks for your assistance! Regards MSincccc (talk) 14:02, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MSincccc, the drive coordinators sent out the mass message to a mailing list that was last updated during the August 2023 backlog drive, which explains why you haven't received the March drive notification. If you'd like to receive this March drive message, just let me know, and I'll be happy to send it to you manually. Also, just for your information, this venue is for requesting mass message deliveries, and requests like this should be made at relevant venues, such as the GA talk page, which was the right venue for this request. Thanks! – DreamRimmer (talk) 14:58, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate request venue?

[edit]

Thanks for adding that hatnote earlier, Aaron Liu; I didn't even know Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests existed. Judging by the age of the two remaining requests, I don't think anyone else did either. I just moved § Request for mass message delivery: July 5, 2024, which was previously at that page, and delivered it. Is it time to mark the page as historical and direct editors back to this talk page to make requests? Courtesy ping for page creator Terasail. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:14, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest redirecting editors to this page. I've had MMS rights for a while and was never aware that the other one existed. This page also seems to be the more active of the two. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As indicated at the top of Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests, that page was being developed and isn't an active venue for requests. See Wikipedia talk:Mass message senders/Archive 7 § Split archives into discussion & requests. isaacl (talk) 04:37, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Be that as it may, it seems the proposal hasn't quite worked out. The page has fewer than 30 watchers, while this one has 134, significantly reducing the chance that a request will be missed for even a day, let alone a year and a half. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:50, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No requests should go on that page, and it's already marked as under development and not in active use. There should be no hatnote on this page pointing to it. isaacl (talk) 21:01, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see no mark of "not in active use", nor do I see a non-custom template that would say that. Aaron Liu (talk) 22:40, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
With this information in mind, I've boldly added a couple of notices indicating that the page is not ready for use at the moment. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's why I decided to add the hatnote instead of attempting to merge it. However, as mentioned, the page has serious usability issues, and development seems to have ceased. What we could do is work out a way to transclude it below, I guess. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:21, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because there has been very little feedback, it's not clear to me what those with the mass messaging permission would prefer. I've advocated for separating requests onto their own page several times, but ultimately it's up to those responding to the requests to decide what works best for them. isaacl (talk) 21:03, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your approach would be the ideal solution, and I also find it more organizationally efficient. However, the proposed page simply doesn't get enough attention to be viable, and usage of this page to make mailing requests seems to have become the norm over the years. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:26, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would have no objection to housing requests on a separate page, my only suggestion is that we limit requests to one page, whether it be here or a separate page. If we move them to the other page, transclude it below, leave notes, and add instructions directing to that page instead; it's bound to become over the norm over a period of time. TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:12, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The draft page doesn't get any attention because it's not active. Should that page become the sole way to make requests, the instructions would be revised accordingly. isaacl (talk) 01:59, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This was just an idea that I had created a while back to attempt to get the requests moved off this page and onto a separate page, as I never really liked MMS requests being on the second half of this talk page. This was just an example page, and shouldn't be used unless all MMS requests are moved to that page. I never recieved much feedback on this and from the start of this year haven't had much free time to revisit things that I started. If someone wants to take this project on and make it a reality, go ahead, I would support it. Terasail[✉️] 15:04, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HouseBlaster could you please add a line at the bottom of the message text explaining why they are receiving this message, because we don’t generally spam talk pages of users who have not subscribed to any messaging list. Also, I think blocked users should be removed from the list. – DreamRimmer (talk) 05:46, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sent with current timestamp, if that was a concern. (t · c) buidhe 02:37, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Welp, I meant maybe change my signature to the actual timestamp of sending, not add another signature. Thanks anyways! Aaron Liu (talk) 02:39, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aaron Liu If you want a message sent out under your name, but a current timestamp, please end it with ~~~ (in my case, this expands to (t · c) buidhe) then the person sending the message can add five ~ which prints out just the date without the signature. Thank you so much, much appreciated! AryKun (talk) 05:36, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DreamRimmer and AryKun: I attempted to send this earlier yesterday. However, my preview page showed the newsletter bracketed by two pieces of cruft, {{../Issue-nav}}, as well as the Page to be sent as a message: field not accepting anything outside of Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life/Newsletter/027. Having only recently been granted this right, I thought it better to let more experienced editors handle this. Now I'm curious as to what I had to do to send it out cleanly. Dhtwiki (talk) 00:09, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Issue-nav is marked as a "noinclude", which means that it is not supposed to be included in the mailing message. Instead copy the content of the template page except for what is in the noinclude. Part of the issue may be that the tree of life newsletter is much larger and more complex than other newsletters. (t · c) buidhe 03:42, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought there was a chance that the noinclude portion wouldn't be sent out with the mailing, even though it was included in my preview. If that wasn't the case, I wasn't going to risk having what would be mystifying cruft landing on 73 user talk pages. And I didn't go to the trouble of setting up a test mailing list, one with only my user talk page address. Dhtwiki (talk) 03:07, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I bollocksed this request up. In the template, Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Newsletters/May 2024. I placed some code at the bottom placing the template in a category:
<noinclude>[[Category:WikiProject Scouting newsletters|2024-05-01]]</noinclude>
Now, Category:WikiProject Scouting newsletters is populated with all the userpages that got the newsletter. Can anyone recommend a bot that can go back and fix this? --evrik (talk) 04:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
