Born on the same date[edit]

Only one date, November 2, has the birthday of more than one President (Harding and Polk), though separated by seventy years. The birthday problem indicates that, on average, a birthday will be shared after about 25 presidents have served. The coincidence of Harding's and Polk's birthdays occurred after 28 distinct presidents had served; remarkably, no further birthdays have been shared since that time.

George Washington, the President who was born the earliest (February 22, 1732)
Millard Fillmore, the president who was born earliest in the calendar year (January 7, 1800)
Andrew Johnson, the president who was born latest in the calendar year (December 29, 1808)

Most and fewest births by month[edit]

Six presidents - John Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, Chester A. Arthur, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter, were born in the month of October.

Only one president each - George H.W. Bush and William Howard Taft, was born in the months June and September respectively.

Each of the last four presidents, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama were born during the summer months.

World War Births[edit]

Only one president was born during World War I: John F. Kennedy

No presidents were born during World War II.

Births by Century and Decade[edit]

In total there have been:

  • 14 born in the 18th century.
  • 19 born in the 19th century.
  • 10 born in the 20th century.

Between the births of George Washington in 1732 and Barack Obama in 1961, a president has been born in every decade except for the 1810s, 1930s and 1950s.

Born in the same year[edit]

10 presidents have been born in the same year as another.

All pairs except the fourth were direct predecessor - direct successor pairs. George H. W. Bush directly succeeded Ronald Reagan, who was the direct successor of Jimmy Carter. Also, in three pairs, the successor was older by days and Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford were the only pair who were both a Presidential and Vice Presidential Pair, as Nixon served under Dwight David Eisenhower and Ford served under Nixon.
