January 2011 assessment[edit]

Per a request made to the Schools project, I am assessing this article. Prior to assessment, I cleaned out some items that were obvious in not belonging per article and/or Wikipedia guidelines and policy.

As the request specifically asked for consideration against the B class criteria, I am using that criteria as a basis for assessment.

1. The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations where necessary.☒N

Many sections are completely missing referencing. There appears to be a direct quote that has no reference.

2. The article reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies.☒N

For a school that was nearly 150 years old, I think the history section should be expanded. The cricket section seems unnecessarily large (if the group, which was around for only 1-2 years out of 144, did help start a state/national organization, that should be briefly noted. A whole paragraph and two large pictures is really a violation of WP:WEIGHT.

3. The article has a defined structure.☒N

Organization is not a problem here, though the leadin really needs to be expanded. Check out WP:LEAD on how long the leadin should be.

4. The article is reasonably well-written.checkY

I see no major issues with spelling, grammar, etc. Some of hte cleanup I did elimininated some Maual of Style problems.

5.The article contains supporting materials where appropriate.checkY

There are pictures that do a nice job helping to illustrate the subject. I'm not sure that two pictures are needed to illustrate the cricket team.

6.The article presents its content in an appropriately understandable way.checkY

The article appears easy to read and is appropriate for a general audeience.

Based on these criteria, while the article appears to have been improved, it still has significant improvement to be made. I am keeping the article as Start/Low. Best of luck in editing! LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

13 January 2010 reassessment[edit]

I am reassessing this article as a "C" class article. I think there has been significant expansion of content and referencing to show that it has definitively moved beyond the "Start" class. I am concerned that some recent alumni that have been added do not belong (collegiate athletes are not inherently notable, and are generally not considered notable). Virtually all of the alumni lacking blue links, except for the general, should be removed per WP:ATHLETE. LonelyBeacon (talk) 03:43, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ruth[edit]

The Babe Ruth page says he went here at age seven. How is that possible if there was no primary school section?Kdammers (talk) 02:25, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Babe Ruth went to St. Mary's, the precursor to Cardinal Gibbons. St. Mary's was a school for boys under the age of 18. Wberkey (talk) 21:19, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Erroneous Facts[edit]

To whomever keeps adding erroneous facts and opinions to this page, please stop. It really isn't relevant what years Cardinal James Gibbons was alive or mentioning that the original buildings were constructed in 1866-1868 5 different times. If people want to know more about Seton Keough's history, Cardinal James Gibbons' history or Babe's history, they can read those respective pages. I've tried hard to make this page reputable and respectable in the Wikipedia community. I welcome your input and your edits, but I will always remove fluff from this article. This should read like an encyclopedia entry, not a personal recount of memories from Gibbons. Wberkey (talk) 16:30, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quality review[edit]

I just reviewed this article as requested. My only reservation about bumping this up to B-class is the lack of sources for large sections of the history. EyeTripleE (talk) 02:40, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Will work on getting that information sourced. Thanks for the review! Wberkey (talk) 03:57, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
