Variations of grayVariations of grey — Suggesting move to "grey-with-an-e" for standardisation with other articles, i.e. main article Grey, Grey (disambiguation), links on {{Shades of grey}} -- saberwyn 06:42, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. • Oppose per WP:ENGVAR. Jenks24 (talk) 15:39, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • For example, have a look at the inconsistency within Category:Colors – we don't change from one variety of English to another just for consistency with other articles. Jenks24 (talk) 19:23, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:ENGVAR. It should be well known, but for those who would like confirmation, gray is the standard American spelling (for example, refer to Cambridge Guide to English Usage: "The use of [gray or grey] is now clearly regionalized, with Americans strongly preferring gray, and grey as the standard form in Britain and Australia. Canadians are more inclined to grey than gray"). The consistency that WP:ENGVAR demands is within each article; a move based on "standardisation with other articles" when this is explicitly addressed by WP:ENGVAR is unjustifiable. • Support. I favour closer conformity between obviously related articles. The mere fact that we favour intra-article consistency so strongly should not weigh against consistency across articles; rather, the wider consistency should be seen as an extension of the narrower. "Main article: Grey" looks ridiculous at the very top of the present article, next to a title that includes gray. Not only do I support this RM, I suggest a multiple RM to gather together all articles with grey or gray (as colours) in their titles, to move to one or the other variant. There should be more such multiple RMs, instead of piecemeal patch-ups that take up too much time and normally provide no useful precedents. NoeticaTea? 00:07, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Note: "Main article: Grey" can be rendered as "Main article: Gray", by adding "|l1=Gray", if this small spelling difference is perceived as too distracting. Some standardized rigour (talk) 07:33, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support For consistency's sake--if the main article is "grey" all of the child articles should be "grey." —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 11:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eeyore gray[edit]

No verification can be found for the existence of a widely used term "Eeyore gray".WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:41, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Missing grey color: Timberwolf[edit]

I searched #DBD7D2, the color of timberwolf, in source mode, but I cannot find timberwolf. Consider adding? ---TacticalMaster (talk) 01:14, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move Variations/Shades[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus, so not moved. An identical (or at least massively overlapping) set of articles has been listed for discussion in at least 4 separate locations: Talk:Variations of brown, Talk:Variations of cyan, Talk:Variations of pink, Talk:Variations of gray.
Listing the same articles in multiple locations is totally contary to WP:MULTI, and disrupts consensus formation by fragmenting discussion.
I am therefore closing all 4 discussions as "no consensus", without prejudice to an immediate renomination of the same set in one location. Guidance on how to do so is available at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting_multiple_page_moves, and I will be happy to help doing that if asked on my talk page. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:49, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Variations of grayShades of gray – All relevant articles should be unified as per as per discussion.

Most follow currently the "Shades of …" naming scheme anyway, so change the remaining "Variations of …".

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
