Signatures[edit]

No need to put ~~~~ in this box

I noticed that you are placing signatures (~~~~) in the Edit summmary box (see image to right ->) when editing. You don't need to do this, the "signature" is used to attribute comments on discussion pages, to make it clear as to who is saying what. So when you make a comment, simply write ~~~~ at the end of your comment, and it will appear up like this -> User A1 (talk) 19:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keithley Instruments ‎[edit]

Thanks for your offer of re-writing Keithley Instruments. However before tackling that project I suggest that other articles you've worked on, including Weatherchem and PerceptIS, could use work to bring them up to Wikipedia standards. Thanks Will, I will revisit the PerceptIS and Weatherchem pages but Keithly was sold yesterday for 300 million according to the www.cleveland.com (local newspaper). I hate for an article about a major, publicly traded company to not only be inaccurate but not here at all. I use Wikipedia for research on a daily basis and am sure others do as well. Weatherchem photo[edit]

You have said that you personally created this image, File:Flapper closure.jpg. Since it closely resembles photos on the Weatherchem website, that assertion is hard to believe. Can you explain? Will Beback talk 09:48, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sir, I created that image and released for anyones use. I am a graphic designer and writer. I used to know some folks at weatherchem, they have moved on, and I created that artwork from a photo in one of their catalogs (Photoshop). I was not paid for this work and have no affiliation with the firm. I am neutral in regards to the company, except that I am from Cleveland and they are a Cleveland company. I do not know any current employees and am not active on that page at this time. I added that because they werea company of note in Cleveland, Ohio, of which I was aware.

Are you saying you scanned a photo from a printed catalog? If you modified a photo in a catalog then you did not create it. What was the nature of your modification? Will Beback talk 01:17, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am saying I looked at the image, drew a wireframe in illustrator, used Photoshop to highlight and web prep. I draw in Illustrator and use Photoshop to prep for web. Photoshop seems to work better than the web output in Illustrator. I notice the image is no longer on the page, which is fine, I have no reason to use the image and don't mind its inclusion or exclusion. I have released for anyone to use. The file was created on a Mac running Illustrator (CS1) at the time. I did not use a scanner, or a drawing tablet. Just a mouse and a mac. Bctwriter (talk) 19:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So you went to the trouble of creating, from scratch a wireframe version of a shaker top just because it's local company? And your original creation just happens to be virtually identical to the images on their website? Is that correct? Will Beback talk 22:41, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The wireframe was no trouble; it took all of 15 minutes, or so, to create; I had friends who worked at the company at the time; yes, I am huge believer in local. Almost all of the writing I have done here have been local companies to Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This firm had an interesting history (I learned of it from friends who worked there at the time). The effort to create the artwork is a great way to keep skills current and learn new features in the software we use. That is how I cultivated design and coding skills. As I said earlier, I was communicating with friends who worked there and released the artwork for anyone's use. I don't know that they used my work but I shared with them in conversation and they were aware of my efforts. Its not a very sophisticated drawing. It was just a fun little project at the time.

Will, I marked this for deletion, though I don't think I used the correct tag since it cites an article. Let's remove the image and move on; the image is no longer on that article at this point. Bctwriter (talk) 16:10, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Will, The photo is long pitched and the wireframe would have been imported into the Photoshop file. It would have been on its own layer and I would have attached the gradients on different layers. When exported for web the image flattens while being converted to a web graphic file (jpeg, gif, or png)and those layers disappear. Normally I would have saved the original art files but since this wasn't a portfolio piece I didn't keep close tabs, as I do if it's something that I know I want to keep track of (that's an awful sentence grammatically). I can do a quick search and see what I saved but that was more than a year ago and at least one new Mac has come into play since those files were archived.

I am really comfortable just deleting the image and calling it a day. Going forward I will save drafts, especially if there are any anticipated concerns and I will branch off and do things other than Cleveland companies.

For future reference, what is the correct tag for requesting deletion of an image, as opposed to an article? Again, thanks for your diligence, this is how creative work is protected and wikipedia stays credible. Bctwriter (talk) 23:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gnosis Arts[edit]

You appear to have a connection to Gnosis Arts. Editing on behalf of banned users is itself a violation. It looks like you have created articles for pay as part of the Gnosis business. Can you explain? Will Beback talk 09:48, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have no connection with Gnosis Arts or Gnosis Business. I have never heard of them and am unsure of how I could be connected to them. I searched on Wikipedia, and using Google, neither produced any results that linked to me so I am at a loss. Follow up, ran a search on Google again and found a PR agency in NJ. Still no connection to me; I had never heard of them until now.

New Years Message for WikiProject United States[edit]

With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
