How to give barnstars &c.

Hi Christa, After the edit-a-thon, as you're assembling the blog and other social media messaging about the event, I like to give barnstars and other wiki-swag to people to show them how much you've appreciated their contributions.

I like the WikiLove or the Barnstar devices. In the box at the bottom of either of the aforementioned pages, click on a template; a new page will open that will show you how to use the template. Jessica Northey

Hi. I saw that you were asking about the Jessica Northey article that got deleted. Basically it was a spam article intended to promote Northey and her business interests but actually so embarrassing that it probably did the very opposite and has stuck in my mind far more than most deleted articles for this reason. I certainly found the second version of it tragicomical enough to nominate it for deletion myself. I seem to remember the ludicrous peacock term "powerhouse" featuring prominently at one point and so I feel that deleting it was probably the kindest thing to do.

There were deletion discussions about each of the two versions of the article:

1. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jessica Northey
2. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jessica Northey (2nd nomination)

It was deleted both times. It has also been deleted on two other occasions.

This does not mean that it definitely must not be created again but that does strongly suggest that it is probably a really bad idea unless things have changed very dramatically since last time so that the previous reasons to delete it no longer apply. Has she been elected to high office? Won the Nobel prize for literature? Had a top 10 single in 14 countries singing Stand By Your Spam? I doubt it. So, I apologise if I sound cynical but I am very cynical that recreating the article has any chance of success.

That said, if you do decide to recreate it, I promise that I will read it carefully and check the sources before I decide whether to nominate it for deletion again. After all, I could be wrong and things might have changed.

I'm not putting money on it though. I just Googled her again. What I saw was as unimpressive as before. --DanielRigal (talk) 21:07, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

More advice, in response to your message on the talk page. Check out Wikipedia's inclusion criterion, called Wikipedia:Notability, which looks for references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary) and Wikipedia:Notability (people).

Since this article has twice been deleted after deletion discussions, if you simply post it again it is likely to be speedily deleted, particularly if you post a part-finished version. If you think you can find better references, that have the kind of in-depth coverage required to show notability, I suggest you make a draft article at Draft:Jessica Northey. Take care to keep it neutral - if it seems to be trying to promote or "sell" her it is unlikely to be accepted. Then you can ask Daniel Rigal to look at it, though the person you really have to convince is user MelanieN (talk), who can agree to allow a new article to be posted, or maybe refer you to WP:Deletion review.
