Edit summaries

Hi there, please don't forget to provide an edit summary - it really does make things work work better by quickly explaining to other users what your change was about. Thanks/wangi 22:53, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Ok, thanks.--Res2216firestar 00:22, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Just to let you know...

I'm removing the message you left on the talk page of Clan (Warriors). Now, it wasn't vandalism or bad or anything like that, the thing is it is kind of a lure to vandals. Reverse psychology, forbidden fruit, etc., etc., you know? There's a Wikipedia policy somewhere, I couldn't give you the name. But anyway, don't feel bad, it's just a friendly tip. See ya! FootballMercato

Dear Sir, FootballMercato has already been visited by more than 150,000 unique visitors in more than 60 countries, and as such represents a notable website from my point of view. Some other sites in the category Category:Football (soccer) websites have less visitors than FootballMercato and they still appear in that category (for example, objectivo.com, etc.). The major part of this website is completely free to use. Please revoke your request for deletion.

Speedy tagging

Hi there; firsdt of all,let me say that your work in tagging articles for deletion is most welcome; we need all the help we can get. I think that you may not be aware of the full range of {{speedy}} tags available; using them all is helpful because admins will give some grearer priority than otheres. You can find the full list at WP:SPEEDY. Happy wikying.--Anthony.bradbury 23:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

NPWatcher

You've been approved to use NPWatcher. When you log into the program, wait a few seconds while it queries wikipedia before screaming at your PC for crashing (unless you see an error, of course). Please give me any feature requests, bugs, etc. The watchlist feature does not work. Before you run the program, please check the changelog on the application page to see if I've made a new release. Finally, enjoy! Martinp23

As you will be able to tell, the GUI needs work! I'm doing this over the weekend :) Please report any bugs to me (I'm also on IRC in freenode, user Martinp23). Thanks for your interest! Martinp23 23:01, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Could I ask why you took a speedy db-nonsense off this vandal article Wikipodia twice after another editor put it on there and I reverted your redirect. If you looked you would see it's pure vandalism and it needs to be deleted. The spelling is incorrect and it's not a duplicate.--John Lake 22:03, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I just thought it could be a redirect since the vandal was criticizing anyone who spelled it that way.--Res2216firestar 01:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Using WP:ARV

Hi - take a look at this diff [1]. It seems to be a fairly common problem with ARV, when if you choose to report a user whilst on the edit page, &action=edit is added to the end of the username, breaking the template. I'm going to report this now, but am just letting you know (only report vandals when you're on the user talk page itself). Thanks, Martinp23 21:31, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

User 12.26.69.43

Looking at the contribs of this particular IP address, especially the last several vandalism attempts on the Circuit City page, it's apparent that it's used for more vandalism than anything worthwhile. Looking at the user's talk page, they also have several vandal warnings posted. Incidentally, this IP is actually registered to the Circuit City company. Can you please escalate this up to a ban so we can stop the vandalism? Thanks! B2bomber81 00:58, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know, maybe you should take it up at the Help desk--Res2216firestar 18:52, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

So, wait - you made an obviously incorrect change, were called on it - and now you're chalking it up to the fact you're not very observant and it's not your fault?

That's great. I'd like you to take your hand, reach around and pat yourself on the back for being personally responsible for the type of behavior that discourges newbies from contributing. I've now concluded that Wiki is an abject waste of time and it's been made clear why every academic I know considers it a failure: self-imposed "experts" with a sense of authority, too much free time on their hands, and little regard for the work of others. Congratulations!!

WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 13:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Request for rollback right

Looking at around 50 or 75 random diffs of your reversions over the last two or three weeks, I did not find any that were incorrect. All I can say is "wow". I am very happy to give you +rollback, as you could easily have gotten it quite a while ago. Even though you already have an excellent grasp on what constitutes vandalism, please keep these things in mind when you use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

For some information on how to use rollback, you can view Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. If you are planning on installing Huggle, which I recommend that you do, please take it slow for the first few days. Huggle is very, very powerful, and it is extremely easy to make mistakes with it. If you do make a mistake, be sure to self-revert!!!. If you run into trouble installing Huggle, or if you have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page. Happy editing! Against Domestic Violence or Against those trying to fight it?

Mullins Labs Dr. Bill Mullins of Mullins Labs, now retired, had 5 sons. The youngest was Michael Mullins. He is the the Michael Mullins who was listed in Boulder Daily Camera on November 18, 1996 for attempting to kill his pregnant wife. She is now speaker on Domestic Violence Awareness. Please see Boulder Daily Camera newspaper article, "The Boulder Shootings," for more information. It was also ran on every major broadcast network on November 17, 1996 and November 18, 1996. As for the lab, since Dr. Bill's retirement, his son Steve has sold off most of it. There is not much left of the family business. Michael committed suicide after shooting his wife and the family recently lost another son, this one to alcoholism, per Augusta Chronicle, March 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.213.20.39 (talk) 02:35, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

The WikiProject on Vandalism studies recently finished its first study and has published its conclusions (a full and detailed copy of the conclusions can be found here).

The first study analyzed a randomly sampled pool of 100 random articles. Within these 100 articles there were a total of 668 edits during the months of November 2004, 2005, and 2006. Of those 668 edits, 31 (or 4.64%) were a vandalism of some type. The study's salient findings suggest that in a given month approximately 5% of edits are vandalism and 97% of that vandalism is done by anonymous editors. Obvious vandalism is the vast majority of vandalism used. From the data gathered within this study it is also found that roughly 25% of vandalism reverting is done by anonymous editors and roughly 75% is done by wikipedians with user accounts. The mean average time vandalism reverting is 758.35 minutes (12.63 hours), a figure that may be skewed by outliers. The median time vandalism reverting is 14 minutes.

Currently the project is working on a related study, Wikipedia:WikiProject Vandalism studies/Obama article study, and is also beginning to draft up the parameters of our second major study (see Study 2). If you are still interested in our work (your name is on the participant's list), please participate in our efforts to help create a solid understanding of vandalism and information on wikipedia by contributing to discussions of past studies or by helping plan up and coming ones. Mullins Labs

Mullins Labs Logs indicate, as does the family, that there was not a threat issued concerning the lab, but the family. There has not been a company directed threat made. Please correct your information. Is there anyway that you know that those with whom you have had these posting interactions were not members of the Mullins Family. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.213.20.39 (talk) 20:23, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

See page: "This page is currently protected from editing because this account was used to misrepresent a legitimate company to issue legal threats in their name. Protecting to prevent further abuse." The threats were not in the name of the company, but the name of a family, who just happens to own a company. Maybe you should get your facts right prior to making an attack against someone.

Florence Ballard - Leads with The Supremes

The edit I made on Florence Ballard's page I feel is VERY useful. Her fellow band-mate Mary Wilson has a similar thing on her page except I organised Flo's one in albums and in chronological order. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Wilson_(singer) That's so you can see the section entitled, Leads with the Supremes. I beieve it would only be fair to have a section like that for Florence as her voice has been likened to Etta James and other big singers and thanks to Dreamgirls and the character Effie White, many people believe she has a great big voice and want to hear it and by providing a list of her leads as a Supreme (like the one on Mary's page) it gives the readers songs which they can search to hear that voice. PLEASE allow my post =D I really want to get to the point where I can upload pics =D

Brilliant! If you have looked at my user page you will know I won't really want to write articles except my user page. My main concern is fighting vandalism and correcting little mistakes that make a big difference (like grammar). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikisaver62 (talkcontribs) 09:54, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I am also involved in fighting vandalism and would be happy to help you with that, should I proceed with adopting you?--Res2216firestar 23:06, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, definately. Wikisaver62 (talk) 12:09, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Could you guide me through this twinkle and lupin instalation, it doesn't seem to be working! I am usually online between 4:00pm and 7:00pm on weekdays and from 8:00am to 2:00pm on weekends. However, all this week I will be on weekend times Wikisaver62 (talk) 09:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

It won't work. I am on internet explorer if that helps. I mean UTC time. Wikisaver62 (talk) 11:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

And can you tell me how to get that cool LED status thing at the top of your page? Wikisaver62 (talk) 11:07, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I've done the Lupin but I can't do the twinkle. Wikisaver62 (talk) 11:19, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

When the tabs appear at the top I click them and a pop up comes up and tells me that my account is too new to use twinkle, but I didn't put the twinkle stuff in there, this was with Lupin. I am now extremely confused. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikisaver62 (talkcontribs) 11:24, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry but I'm going to need a real time walkthrough for this please. Wikisaver62 (talk) 11:36, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

It's worked now but when I press the tabs nothing happens?! Wikisaver62 (talk) 14:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

No, I can't see them, what do they look like? Wikisaver62 (talk) 14:30, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

The lupin tabs work now but those buttons are not there. I know what you mean now though. Wikisaver62 (talk) 17:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Everything works now after a lot of trying and re-trying and testing on Mozilla Firefox I mamaged to get them both to work on IE, Wahoo!!! Wikisaver62 (talk) 20:05, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

the Barbara Rosenthal article

To Wikipedia, Talk Page, Nov. 3, 2008

Hello, Res221firestar,

Thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia.

Please tell me what still needs citations on the Barbara Rosenthal article, or what can specifically be done to improve it so it doesn't get deleted over and over.

The last deletion notes said that copyright violations were being "hidden" as the article is being revised. If so, it isn't deliberate. I am trying to wikify it and keep it to form, being careful to state information only from secondary sources and to cite the sources. Most sources are in print, and not online.

This version has no external links that aren't pertinent to the article, either. And the bibliography is in good form.

I have been looking at many articles, and this doesn't seem so different.

Am I allowed to/supposed to write the statements and then add the url or note the print article they came from? Am I supposed to do this every sentence?

It seems like an oxymoron to require no original research, and yet delete the entry because it stitches together real sources. I'm confused.

Can suggest a way to rewrite it? Can you change one sentence or section using dummy citation or something, as an example, please? Originale (talk) 21:01, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I would be happy to help, but I am not able to look at the content of deleted pages, I would suggest lookong over WP:MOS for guidelines on article writing. Thanks--Res2216firestar 17:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Simple english block

Can you please contact [user:creol] on the simple english wikipedia and tell him I am not using sock puppetry and is he read my user page here he would know why! Wikisaver62 (talk) 17:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

The same, Wikisaver62. Wikisaver62 (talk) 18:31, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I cannot even view my talk page. Maybe you can though. I do not know how to link to my talk on a different language. Wikisaver62 (talk) 09:06, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't seem to have a user page or talk page there so could you create it and then explain to creol why I shouldn't have been blocked. I will also put the same message that I have put on my user page here to explain. Wikisaver62 (talk) 11:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Its done. Unblocked, name cleared, although no apology. Would have been nice. Wikisaver62 (talk) 17:19, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

ooops! sorry! new to Wikipedia.

I'm brand new to Wikipedia, and tried to edit an entry about my play "The Blue Flower", adding new information about it, and got a message from you that my edit constituted vandalizing. I certainly didn't mean to! Was just trying to update the entry with new info, and tried adding an external link to The Blue Flower which I guess is discouraged. I'm only interested in being a responsible Wiki-community member. Will learn the ropes soon, I'm sure. Thanks . . . Jim Bauer Jaswbauer (talk) 23:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Quite the opposite, feel free to add new info, just be aware that stuff in ALL CAPS drops a red flag for those trying to remove vandalism. Also be sure to cite your sources when updating information. Thanks--Res2216firestar 16:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Res

Hi Res, what time is it over there? I don't seem to have much to do at the moment and I am getting bored of reverting the same type of vandalism again, and again, and again, and again, and... Wikisaver62 (talk) 13:54, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Got any ideas? Wikisaver62 (talk) 14:08, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but my status thing won't work. I try to change it and it either doesn't change or goes unknown! What the hell? I even tried it in firefox and it still hasn't worked. If you have time could you change it to offline till I get back to you tomorrow? Cheers-- Wikisaver62 (talk) 14:20, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, I will answer your questions in order. First, I live is the US central time zone, that is GMT-6:00. Next, you are right, reverting vandalism does get boring, so I would recommend getting involved in article writing, not for the sake of article writing, but find an article that you know a lot about/are interested in that needs improvement to work on. For the status template, it is working properly: you just need to purge the cache of the page. You can get a handy tool in your preferences that displays the current UTC time. If you click on it, it will purge the cache of the page. For me, that updates it. Thanks--Res2216firestar 17:17, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I know you are probably sick of hearing these two words but, thank you! I'll look into article writing and see if I like it. Wikisaver62 (talk) 10:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

The RfA Barnstar
ClassicSC, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:17, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

All right, thanks.--Res2216firestar 18:02, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
After careful consideration and an hour looking through your contributions at this time I am going to have to decline. I looked at a summary of your contributions (here) and some of your actual contributions. I saw a lot of good anti-vandalism work. Your reports to WP:AIV right now are higher than mine were when I applied for adminship. So in that regard you are great. Where you are going to run into trouble is that the vast majority of your edits were made with automated tools. As a result, you have very little to no experience in actually working on articles or participating in other areas. The admin coaching process deals with vandalism, but it delves into a large portion of other areas that you have no experience with yet.
If in the next few months you begin working in other areas, preferably without automated tools, such as article improvement or AFD, I would be happy to reconsider. For an example of the objections you would face if you were to continue on your current path and then apply for adminship take a look at the first few opposes in this RFA that you participated in.
I suggest you find an article you are interested in and work on improving it to good article or featured article status. In the process you will learn how Wikipedia works in practice. That is how I truly learned about Wikipedia. If you have any questions or if you need any advice don't hesitate to ask. KnightLago (talk) 19:21, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your consideration, I would like to take this chance to respond to some of the things that have been said by you and others about my contributions: You (and others) have hinted that I have "no experience" with article work, this is not true, I am and have been highly active with getting Warriors (novel series) to GA status, and am now working on getting it back to GA now that it has been demoted.

I am also aware (though you made no mention of this) that I took a long break from 2007-08, I was frustrated, and at the time that I left, I had no intention of coming back, but when I saw Warriors (novel series) sliding back downhill, I came back.

I am also aware that the vast majority of my edits are automated, this is true, some would call me a "hugglebot", I agree with that assessment for my anti-vandalism contributions, but I hold to my belief that I do work on writing articles, and my automated edits are so vast that they swallow up my article work, and that some, but not most, of my script-assisted edits are !voting on AfDs using a script created by User:2D that takes my input, formats it, and signs my comment, making it easier for me to !vote on AfDs.

I accept your decision, although I disagree with most of your rationale, once again, thank you for your consideration.--Res2216firestar 22:24, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you help with Simple English Warriors?

Hi, I noticed you did some stuff in Warriors english. Could you do some things in Simple English Warriors? That article has gone totally crazy! Thanks Smileybell (talk) 08:10, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I've currently got my hands full with this wiki, the Warriors wiki, and the Geometry Wars wiki, but I will look over it and work on it when I get a chance.--Res2216firestar 15:19, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, that's fine! Do you know anyone else who could help with it? I even had to create the Warriors simple english talk page! Thank you and bye Smileybell (talk) 05:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

For having sixteen articles in one DYK hook, I award you this Barnstar. Believe me, I know how hard it is to put a 16 article hook together. Great work on Fielding. --Doug Coldwell talk 12:47, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks, I worked on one or two of them, but to see 16 on DYK is just...wow.--Res2216firestar 14:30, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
