Harry Aston

New page created for this player who apparently scored the Albion's first ever (recorded) goal, pre Football League times, so I'm not sure if you have anything on him. Wolvesweb (talk) 12:32, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

I would probably stick to convention and use (footballer born X) to differentiate them. I find it a better heading for an article than overemphasising a middle name. Wolvesweb (talk) 21:29, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

I just created this article. It clearly isn't the same guy who played for the Baggies in the 1912 FA Cup Final(unless he was some sort of astounding prodigy :-) ), but I don't know the DOB of the latter, so in the article I've just had to change the link to Harry Wright (footballer born 18??). Do you have a source for the DOB of Albion's Harry Wright? BTW if you ever create an article on him I figure he's probably got a better claim to the title Harry Wright (footballer), so if that happens feel free to move mine to Harry Wright (footballer born 1900) --ChrisTheDude (talk) 20:55, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

A chance for you to gloat on your success.--EchetusXe (talk) 18:21, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Shaun Murphy (murderer)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shaun Murphy (murderer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Link accuses someone of murdered and redirects to deleted article.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Match report

No real reason, I think I was just copying the format from 2000 Football League Second Division play-off Final and saw that article using soccerbase, figured I ought to do the same! -AMBerry(t|c) 10:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

"Me and Simeon Jackson"

Actually, although I uploaded that image, I cropped it from one uploaded by another user (File:Me and Simeon Jackson.JPG) - the guy on the right is User:Andysteve. Although I can actually be found in image form on WP - I'm just about visible at the bottom of File:ChathamHouseSchool.jpg :-) And yes, Daniels played very well at Wembley, in fact for me both keepers were their respective teams' Men of the Match...... -- ChrisTheDude(talk) 08:55, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

York City F.C. season 2008–09

Thanks for pointing that out, the meaning I was intending to get across didn't work, so I've reworded it. Cheers,Mattythewhite (talk) 14:12, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Not a TV guide on 2009 FA Cup Final

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of info about broadcasters on Wikipedia at all. Different events are broadcast by different TV channels in different countries, and to list all of those broadcasters (even when limiting them to English-speaking countries) is just daft, IMO. Just have a look at 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. That article has a lot of content without needing to resort to guff about the TV broadcasters. – PeeJay 13:45, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Importance of old matches

You're quite safe assigning all those old Cup matches as being of Low importance to the Scotland Project - although it might be time to reinstate the Scottish taskforce of the footy project? I only noticed because I've just sorted out all the unassessed articles of the Scotland project, and then found another 10 or so had popped up.<g> FlagSteward (talk) 11:26, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

The Scottish tf was deleted for some reason. Anyway, no big deal, I just thought you could save me some work by assessing those articles as Low. <g> FlagSteward (talk) 11:41, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Paul Ince

Firstly, you really want me to add references to every single line of my edit? That is rubbish, nobody else has to do that on here? "Conditions that were known to Ince at the time of signing for the club." - does not need reference. Financial restrictions at the club were known by our prior manager, and was widely speculated by the media. He knew about these restrictions when signing the contract. "Ince however spent more money in the 2008-2009 summer transfer window at Rovers, than any Rovers manager had in well over 5 years at the club." - How can i reference this? Their is no page or article showing Blackburn's spending activities over the years? This is getting silly. It was a fact that ince spent more in his summer at the club, then Mark Hughes did during his stay. People can check that out for themselves... "Current Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce..." - Not irrelevant! I comparison of past and present manager draws a direct line between the two managers abilities. Ie, Ince's strengths in management and weaknesses! Other examples of this are plain to be seen on Wiki! "who has had exactly the same restrictions financially," Look at point 2. "inheriting a more injury hit squad then in Ince's spell," Again, how can i reference the this. There are no articles showing injury listings. Unless i reference each player's wikipedia page. Something nobody else has to do on wiki? "has however been 10% more successful in the form of wins then Ince was." - "10% is really not that significant" - 10% was more then a difference between Rovers staying in the Premier League, or being relegated to the Championship. I would not call that 'insignificant'. "Ince was in charge for a handful of games, hardly enough data to make meaningful comparisons" - Ince was incharge of the club for 2 games less then Sam has been, not including the pre-season Ince had with the team, something i did not even mention. --RoverTheBendInSussex (talk) 11:44, 17 June 2009 (GMT) —Precedingunsigned comment added by 81.101.201.72 (talk)

Hi, just wondering if you could have a look at Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season 2008–09 again, I've added about 60+ refs and followed your advice and the others point made on the peer review page, Just wanted to see if it is going in right direction, and any other quick suggestions,

quick note, the pre-season transfer section is still pretty long, but the main length is because of the statements made at the beginning of the season by daniel levy, so the only way the trim that section down anymore would be to effectively remove the quotes but due to the extraordinary nature of them, I thought it would probably be better if they were to stay in their full quotations,

Chris Coyne

Hi, Jameboy. I've been doing a bit of work on Chris Coyne and wondered whether it might be worth working on a bit more to get it up to GA. Perhaps you would have a look? Cheers, --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 21:02, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Villa and Europe 1990

My Ward book doesn't mention anything about Liverpool, it just says that Villa finished 2nd therefore they qualified for the UEFA Cup, also that they were the first English club back in Europe since Heysel. Pure OR from now on but I think where you finished is where you qualified, no exceptions; Liverpool weren't allowed to play therefore nobody was. You would need to find a source confirming and discussing that if you wanted to write about it though; I can't seem to find any on a cursory search. Regards, Woody (talk) 22:08, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps we should go over

to the former French system whereby first names could be chosen only from an approved list, that'd stop people calling their kids things like Taylor. Then have a rule whereby you could only play sport for your country of birth. Then have a policy banning the use of all flags from Wikipedia under any circumstances. Or any mention of descent or ethnicity. Or assuming good faith. Do I not need a holiday... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

1952 FA Charity Shield

I've fixed the link now. Turns out it was actually Don Gibson who played, not Terry Gibson. –PeeJay 13:48, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

August 2009

I had used a template, but decided to write this. Talkpages are NOT for general discussion of the event (I am referring to your edit to the Backlash 2007 talkpage). The talkpage is for discussing improvements to the article itself. TJ Spyke 21:46, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

How is asking why WWE only did 6 matches in any way gonna improve the article? It is nothing more than a message board comment. If you want to ask that on a messageboard, that is fine. It doesn't belong on the talkpage here though. You should know that by now if you've been here for several years. While I agree that it was a little short in amount of matches (although not much since most PPV's have 7 or 8 matches), it doesn't belong on article talkpages. TJ Spyke 21:58, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Users speculating on why a PPV has 1 less match than average is nothing more than messageboard comments. MAYBE a comment from a professional review could go in the article, but that is it. You can ask others, but I know that any experienced editor will tell you the same thing. TJ Spyke 22:24, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Steve Bull stats

Hi, I've completed the stats box on his page with Wolves era info. I know he made 4 league appearances (2 goals) for West Brom, but need his cup/other stats adding if you can oblige, cheers Wolvesweb (talk) 12:32, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Peer review

Hello. Sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to. I think all I said about the tables was a rant about the complicated format, and a suggestion that notes specific to a table should go immediately below it, rather than in the general Notes section. Unless I'm missing something by being stupid, which at the moment is entirely possible :-( cheers,Struway2 (talk) 19:06, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Two new biogs for players who also played for Albion you might like to add to Wolvesweb (talk) 13:52, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Cup image

Thanks for the message. The second cup (the one used from 1896) was identical in design to the original, so I figured it would be OK..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:40, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Events at Wembley Stadium

Thanks for the heads-up. The arguments at that discussion don't really seem convincing as this category should only be for single events that occured at one location, not events that occur at mutiple locations. Tim! (talk) 11:31, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Jameboy! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Footy/music

Cheers for the kind words. "Diamond Lights" sure was chronic, although perhaps not as bad as the rap record that Gillingham put out back in the Tony Pulis era, and which I was one of probably about 12 people sad enough to buy. Luckily I found some poor fool prepared to buy it off me on eBay :-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:46, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Season articles

Thanks for having a look at the Burnley 1920-21 article, I think I'll do our second league championship of 1959-60 next... Good luck with your Albion articles. Cheers -- BigDom 07:27, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Scott Dobie

Hi, no problem. The project made a decision very early on that most footballers were out of scope, otherwise it gets very crowded with anybody who's played for a team in Lancs or Cumbria or was born there. There's always going to be exceptions but current players are felt to be mostly unnotable in project terms. The same applies to most sports players- it's not just soccer. The project emphasis is on politics, geography and history. The clubs are in, their players not.NtheP (talk) 09:32, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, never heard of that tourney before, I'll see if I can turn anything up. I work at Birmingham University and the library might well have old local newspapers that could have some coverage........ -- ChrisTheDude(talk) 08:41, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello. I've added what I can. Unfortunately, my source doesn't give date, venue or attendance, so it's a bit sparse. Of my lot's 5 defeats vs unspecified opposition, 4 were against the Villa, but I don't know who the other one was against. I'm a bit confused by 1910 and 1933, but don't know whether Matthews' years mean the year in which the final was played, or what. In that regard, it doesn't help that they changed the final from autumn to May. There's a Birmingham County FA centenary book {cited in Arthur James (footballer)) in Bham central library which I'd guess would have a complete list, but unless Blues get a game rearranged to midweek for some reason I can't see me getting there anytime soon. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:41, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, cheers both. --Jameboy (talk) 21:29, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
All finals have now been added, and I also managed to add enough "meat" to the prose to send it to T:TDYK...... --ChrisTheDude (talk) 15:56, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Great work, fantastic. I am currently working on season articles covering WBAFC's early history so there may be one or two more obscure Midlands footy competition articles in the pipeline... --Jameboy (talk) 17:20, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
