link removal[edit]

Hi, my question is fairly simple, I added a link of "How To" article on this page of wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Press_release But now it has been removed by you, can kindly explain my mistake. Kindly suggest is it appropriate that I add content on "How to write a press release" on wikipedia and then link to a site? kh.Mohsin (talk) 15:15, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WHY? O WHY?[edit]

Why do you deny to be reasonable and, instead of at least warning me that you were going to delete the image I uploaded, delete the image anyway?
What's wrong with kindness?
What's wrong with at least respecting human beings a little bit?
Do you think that Wikipedia was made so that editors can, without warning, delete things that can be fixed?

Are you a local expert?[edit]

Hi JeremyA,

I noticed your excellent contribution about Sheffield. I'm writing on behalf of Gumtree.com, the community classifies website. I found you whilst searching for people and communities discussing local issues relating to Sheffield.

The reason I am contacting you is that Gumtree have recently launched a 'local experts' section within their forum and we are helping them recruit individuals who can act as community champions there, dispensing advice, wisdom and tips to other visitors to the site. I think you would be great for this. We'd love to speak with you further about it - if this sounds like something that might interest you, could you let me know how to contact you with more information? You can reach me at kris_nordgren.gumtree@intelligentconversation.co.uk

I do apologize for using the talk section for this.

Kind regards, Kris —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.104.255.152 (talk) 10:56, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

Right, so it needs a SINGLE licensing tag reflecting the most restrictive of those respective of those respectivly.

By all means the photographer copyright should be mentioned, but in this instance the important copyright is that of the original work NOT that of the derived image.

Having both free and non-free license tags on an image is confusing, and to some people grants a license which the photographer should or could not have granted. ( GFDL for example has a clause about not releasing if there are non-free elements IIRC)

Having image license tagging, as a single 'most restrictive' tag + additional information in a rationale is better, simpler for users, and enables those patrolling to determine rapidly if an image is free (in which case it can be moved to Commons) or is unfree ( in which case it needs a Fair Use rationale).

The other reason for 'Single' license tag, is technical, given the way Free and Non-free license tags categorise images. If images can appear in both 'free' and 'non-free' groupings at the same time, it's much harder to catch the images that have been incorrectly tagged as both.

Image[edit]

It seems pretty foolish to remove the most interesting image in the whole article because it is not in the proper section.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 02:33, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My point is that you should move it somewhere else in the article.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:43, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want to use this image. I could also upload one without the Wolf Point border.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 17:52, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is the plain file you can make any changes you want and save over it. I usually add borders and such in MS Paint.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 19:03, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wolf Point[edit]

If you are going to add stuff to Wolf Point, you may want to try to do so soon. It is at WP:DYK and will go on the main page next week probably. You may want to make any corrections before it gets its day in the sun.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:00, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the relevant articles that need to be coordinated are Wolf Point, Chicago, Wigwam (Chicago) and Fulton River District, Chicago. Have at it. I will be watching the first two since they are articles I created.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have been thinking a bit more about this and am somewhat convince that 21st century usage of the term Wolf Point, Chicago means the area that I originally described, but that in the past the meaning of Wolf Point may have been more encompassing. What do you think about that?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:58, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comments on the new map and captions welcome.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:31, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since Kinzie Street railroad bridge is your baby, I will leave it to you to decide, but the bird's eye view of the point shows the bridge pretty well.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 21:42, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I knew you would understand the finepoints of image choice for that article. I would personally suggest adding this to the gallery for now, but it is your choice. This weekend Wigwam (Chicago) and possibly a separate article for Sauganash Hotel will be next on my plate. I have to finish beefing up Lurie Garden first to try to save the WP:CHIFTD. Help on those would be great. Images would be helpful.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:36, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

Sheffield has been nominated for FA status again; see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Sheffield/archive2. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it was nominated rather hastily by me. It would be nice to see you there, I need a hand fixing all the criticism it's receiving. It's not very nice with people telling you how you should be editing rather than helping you do it, but whatever. Hope to see you there! -- Jack?! 04:31, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First settler[edit]

Don't know why.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:13, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More Chicago origins[edit]

I have started Sauganash Hotel. I am wondering if for the sake of Wolf Point, Chicago and Block 37 there might be a file created for the plat on page 112 of the link you sent me.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:25, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good map. Not sure which point is actually the original Wolf Point.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:55, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Should a map not having north at the top have some sort of indication of which way is north?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:11, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kinzie Street Bridge GA[edit]

Cumberland (CTA) GA review[edit]

I have made most of your suggested changes to Cumberland (CTA). The one thing I'm hesitant to change is the placement of the second paragraph in the Facilities section; see my comment about that in the GA review. Otherwise, the main issues have been addressed. Thank you for reviewing the article. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 04:50, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All your changes look good to me. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 17:15, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good idea if you can get it to work with the infobox. Embankment tube station uses Template:Infobox London station, which supports a locator map, whereas Cumberland and the other 'L' station articles use Template:Infobox station, which I'm not sure does. I don't have much experience with locator maps, but if you see a way it could work in Cumberland, I'd be happy to implement it in some of the other 'L' and Metra articles. La Grange Patch[edit]

Hi Jeremy, Why has La Grange Patch been removed as media covering La Grange Park? La Grange Patch is original content news reported by professional reporters covering only La Grange Park and La Grange, Illinois. It's part of Patch.com, owned by AOL. I appreciate your reply. Sincerely, LaGrangePatch —Preceding unsigned comment added by LaGrangePatch (talkcontribs) 23:18, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

La Grange Patch[edit]

Thanks, Jeremy, for this information. I'm the Editor of La Grange Patch, and I created my username to reflect the newspaper, in order to maintain full disclosure. I apologize for not thoroughly researching the terms of adding to a village's page. If I understand you correctly, as soon as there are third parties verifying La Grange Patch, we can add the local media section, but not the external link. Patch.com, owned by AOL has been written about by the San Francisco Chronicle, the Boston Globe, and many mainstream established newspapers, a Google News search will show. If you visit www.patch.com, the company the articles reference, you'll see a link to La Grange Patch. This should establish this is an authentic newspaper for La Grange and La Grange Park, which launched July 30, 2010. Please let me know if the terms have been satisfied and whether I may add the information about the newspaper to the La Grange and La Grange Park pages, excluding the link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LaGrangePatch (talkcontribs) 04:40, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
