I noticed your efforts in reverting some examples of petty deletions by this IP. Your efforts are not unnoticed (double negative win). The topics with which that IP tampered are hot ones currently, and I would expect such activity to continue, if you're up for more reversions. These things usually happen in spurts, though you've probably seen that from IPs many times before. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:30, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cool...just reverted a few more and added some pages to my watchlist. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:27, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What you removed here wasn't crap...it was a symphony of hilarity. MezzoMezzo (talk) 19:22, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You have a good point there, uncle. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:16, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ohnoitsjamie,

Having read through your previous talk, I would just like to establish my reasoning behind the changes that I made to the ‘Extreme Sports’ page as primarily I believe that they reflect a valid part of the growth of Extreme Sports.

The rise in popularity of extreme sports is not solely attributable to the X-Games, but combines with an increased 365-day coverage by channels such as the Extreme Sports Channel to create a foundation for a passion about extreme sports, and it is this that my edits attempted to reflect.

I believe that such coverage should be mentioned as it plays an important part as to a global recognition and ultimate acceptance of such sports, as fringe sports developed into a phenomenon that is now watched by millions[1]. The importance of such coverage has been accepted as reinforcing the validity of the sports, shown by “new activity participants … becoming involved after viewing footage on the Internet and seeing the sport broadcast on television” Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).http://www.lifesavingwa.com.au/docs/community/Extreme-Sports-Research-Report.pdf , page 26</ref>

As for the term ‘extreme’, merely looking at the influence of the Extreme Sports Channel, broadcasting to 60 countries, the origins and the growth, since 1998, has paralleled that of ESPN and the X-games, and it is the combination of these globally that should be attributable for the name. [2]

Finally, I believe you removed links because they fell under WK:LINKSPAN, however, I was unsure as to this point, as I thought that because extreme.com is a non-commercial site, it would not fall foul of this.

I appreciate it may look biased, but these are just the views of a fan who thought that the focus on ESPN actually went against Wikipedia’s neutrality, and was trying to revert it to a more neutral stance, by “including information about …different alternatives”, especially ones that I believe to have a valid claim. And further I appreciate that other edits have been made to try and include the site, but I feel that what I did was much more 'neutral' than others have been.

Any advice at how such points could be included would be appreciated.

Regards, A Fan — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesJoyce1882 (talkcontribs) 12:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your arguments belong on the article's talk page, not here. Please read WP:Reliable sources and WP:COI; you call yourself a "fan," but I've been around long enough to know better. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:48, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I can only state again that I am a fan. And I will raise my arguments on the talk page for the article, and hope to find some resolution to the input of the importance of television coverage to the expansion.
Thank you again. JamesJoyce1882 (talkcontribs) 14:36, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

LTA Techwriter2B has made another appearance[edit]

Hello Jamie ...

Our old friend from Connecticut the notorious eight year LTA Techwriter2B (who was community banned for life from WP on July 18, 2010), has made another of his periodic wikistalking appearances which includes establishing another sockpuppet account this morning as User: Breese Anderson in order to engage in another round of his disruptive behavior. Please see the brief thread here for all the background information you will need to know to resolve this matter. I would appreciate it if you could permanently block this new sockpuppet user registration (as you and others admins have done with many of his/her others) at your earliest convenience. Many thanks. Bond credit rating[edit]

Hello Ohnoitsjamie, I saw today you had reverted some obvious vandalism on the Credit rating agency article, and I write now to find if you would consider reviewing a somewhat more difficult case on the article Bond credit rating. Relevant background: I watch some key industry articles for Moody's, but I do not edit articles directly, wishing to avoid COI problems. I noticed recently that an opinionated and (I believe) unencyclopedic section was added to that article, and I've explained the situation on the Bond credit rating discussion page, with a "request edit" notice. However, there has been no response yet. Perhaps you would be willing to remove the paragraph or suggest another solution? Many thanks, Mysidae (talk) 21:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your taking the effort to make that change. I do not wish to ask too much of your time, however I do wonder if you noticed another request I had posted on the Credit rating agency article about the same time. I would like to help improve that article, but as you know I wish not to make direct edits. My request on the discussion page is here, if you have the chance to review. If not, I will understand. Many thanks, Mysidae (talk) 21:55, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nürburgring[edit]

Thanks for taking the whole paragraph refering to Armco barriers and Teffers straight out. As a Nürburgring expert for 30 years I was really annoyed at this nonsense copied and pasted from some other websites Lavoulte (talk) 17:52, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The 'Teffers straight' statement was reintroduced in slightly different form now using the term 'prevalence'. This doesn't make it any more true. Is there a way to finally block this? Lavoulte (talk) 08:22, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can't "block" a sentence per se; I can block editors who repeatedly add unsourced material, which I will do. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Newtown, CT page edits[edit]

Jamie -

I am not sure if I'm doing this correctly, and I do not mean for my edits to be disruptive, but I'm new to the discussion aspect of wikipedia. In the past, I've not had edits reverted or disagreed with others and had to come to consensus. I hope this is the correct way to approach the problem.

I don't think that Adam Lanza meets the wiki definition for notability. Specifically, those who perpetrate criminal acts are not generally considered notable, and should not have their own wiki pages (but rather should be incorporated within pages referring to the events in which they participated) unless length constraints make this unrealistic.

I would like to know your reasoning that Adam Lanza is in fact a notable person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.34.212 (talk) 04:40, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not new to Wikipedia. You will find numerous Olympic athletes listed as notable residents/alumni who don't have their own article pages but are notable enough to appear in "notable" lists. Adam Lanza, Dylan Klebold, Eric Harris, Son of Sam, etc. etc. etc., meet our definitions of notability, like it or not. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:26, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The wikipedia definition of notable specifically mentions lists of notable people as well, and says the same criteria apply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.34.212 (talk) 17:09, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You'll notice that numerous other editors have restored Lanza's entry. That should tell you something. If it continues to get removed, the IPs will be blocked and the page will be protected. I'm not discussing it further. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:12, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jamie, I have no desire to get into an edit war, but I believe your interpretation is incorrect and inconsistent with wiki guidelines, so I will move this to dispute resolution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.34.212 (talk) 18:19, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like they're at it again[edit]

Hi Jamie, you might remember some spammers from tv3 a few months ago? Well this new user seems to fit the same pattern. Mattlore (talk) 02:58, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also, User:Exesop and User:Machinegoesbing. What should I do about this? Mattlore (talk) 01:16, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note, Matt. I just got back from a trip; I'll bag these ones and figure out what to do next; might file an item with the spam project, though this is a tricky one, because links from this source are frequently used by good-faith editors. There might be some programmatic-oriented ways to detect the single-purpose accounts; I will focus on that avenue. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:28, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see these SPAs as a case of someone doing the right thing for the wrong reason. They are presumably trying to promote the news organisation, but they are making correct and mostly useful additions to Wikipedia, from which every one benefits.
In some cases, they are adding trivial information which is irrelevant to the subject as a whole - eg, the edit to New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. In other cases, eg Tongariro Alpine Crossing, the article is of poorer quality without the SPA update. In that case, it is of significance that the track has reopened, and the article is inaccurate without this update. You might argue that the fact it was partially closed for a couple of years isn't worth including, but in that case the article needs a rewrite.
How about removing the links these SPAs add, but leaving the contents (where the contents are useful). Slap a citation needed tag on instead, or add a reference from another source if you have time. I think I've seen you doing this in the past, Ohnoitsjamie. Indeed, we could just remove the url, leaving the rest of the ref. If we all agree to do this then the SPAs play a useful role in identifying articles which might need updates. The SPAs might stop editing when their links don't stick, but perhaps they get paid by the edit and don't actually care if the urls get removed. If they edit war to restore the urls, then they get blocked.-gadfium 22:24, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tagged and bagged. How are you finding these? You can email me if you'd rather no publicly disclose. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:48, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No secret, most end up editing pages on my watch list and every time I see someone adding 3news links now I end up checking their user history. Mattlore (talk) 21:44, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I guess they aren't in a hurry to stop. I talked to some other media people and they don't really see the problem with this (cause they are just adding legit references and they are a real media source). I wouldn't be surprised if some other media start copying them? What is the next step? - SimonLyall (talk) 11:31, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While blacklisting would be simple, it wouldn't be appropriate here; 3news links would pass most editor's definition of a WP:RS, and many 3news links are added in good faith by non-COI editors. I apologize for dragging my feet on this, but the only approach I can imagine is coming up with edit filter to catch SPA editors affiliated with 3news so they can be quickly blocked. Outside of the boundaries of Wikipedia, I suppose that negative press regarding their tactics could influence a shift in behavior; anyone can see that I've already blocked 13 such accounts (the ones starting in http://spam). Just saying... OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:29, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This IP address fits the same editing pattern, maybe they aren't bothering to register accounts now. Mattlore (talk) 01:28, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That IP range is owned by TV3. I see you've blocked account creation. Why not a more complete block? - SimonLyall (talk) 09:29, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

3news SPA account[edit]

Hi there, can you please outline why you are removing content from various articles with the above edit summary (which to me doesn't give away what's going on, I'm afraid)? Schwede66 19:54, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See talk note above this one; we have a recurring problem with 3news apparently paying editors to add short bits of content to articles with the sole purpose of adding more incoming links to the 3news website; SPA refers to a single purpose account; all of the blocked editors do nothing but add short bits of content with 3news links and no other links. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:06, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, I see. Given that you've got a standard edit summary, maybe you could include a link to some discussion (this, or the one above, or whatever) so that other editors who might be as puzzled as me can find out what's going on. Just a suggestion. Schwede66 02:51, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding 78.150.211.99 and Elite spark's blocks[edit]

Could you unblock both 78.150.211.99 (talk · contribs · count) and Elite spark (talk · contribs · count) so that they could comment on an ongoing WP:SPI case involving them? Their comments defending themselves would help in furthering the investigation of their alleged sockpuppetry. Thank you, 155blue (talk · contribs · count) 12 Jun 2013 21:43 (UTC).

What good will that do? The case has already been declined, and Elite Spark's behavior certainly merited an indef block. The IP geolocates to Wales (where the software developer is based), and the IP's previous edits quack so loud that it does actually echo. Could possibly be meatpuppetry, but the result is the same. I'm not going to object if someone else unblocks the IP, but I have no interest in doing so. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:59, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hijab[edit]

Hi. your version states "Hijab ... is a veil which covers the head which is particularly worn by a Muslim female beyond the age of puberty in the presence of non-mahram (non-related) adult males." That sound like a kid wrote this plus there's no need for details in the first line as to who they wear this in presence of because muslim females in general cover head in front of cousins, and even brothers and father. If you disagree with this then I guess you feel that male cousins don't get sexually excited to their female cousins. Even brothers and sisters get sexually excited to each other and that's the purpose of muslim females wearing hijab. 22 Male Cali (talk) 10:20, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The objection was to your change indicating the a hijab could refer to something a male would wear. You'll need a good source indicating that hijab is commonly used in that way. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:46, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding undo of "3D Audio Effect" changes[edit]

Hello,

THank you for taking the time to review my changes.

I would like to request that you re-consider the deletion of the changes to "3D audio effect." The information provided, especially in the first two paragraphs, is historical and of significance. (I described the history of 3D audio on Windows, the Xbox and also the evolution of an industry standard for presenting the 3D audio effect), along with neutral references. The third paragraph is a continuing history to the present day, and I would argue of significance as well (since it describes the current state in the evolution of 3D audio effect for games), though I can see how I could be considered too close to that part of the industry currently to be considered objective.

Thank you! Bschmidt1962 (talk) 00:49, 19 July 2013 (UTC) p.s. The page also seems to be riddled with ad-like references to "MorrowSoundTrue3D"[reply]

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog[edit]

Hi James,

I did some changes to the page which were undid by you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alapaha_Blue_Blood_Bulldog

The Alapaha Blue Blood is not a unrecognized breed and is also not a type of American Bulldog. I added the reference to my change showing it is a different breed than American Bulldog.

I am new to Wikipedia so I apologize is advance if I am not following some criteria of communication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Somuchmojo (talkcontribs) 17:24, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:RS, which was the issue brought up in the AfD discussion linked above. Only one of the orgs you linked to is notable. You may consider mentioning the specific lineage in the American Bulldog article, where the Alapaha term now redirects. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:06, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: I am removing all the references from the edit I did. I am just keeping the text that the two breeds are different and there is no linkage. Hopefully that way I am not violating any rules. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Somuchmojo (talkcontribs) 19:10, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you continue reverting the page against the consensus of a recent AfD, you will be blocked. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:13, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The linkage between this page and the American Bulldog is not correct. What can I do to get the redirect removed? I looked for the owner of the American Bulldog page but he is not active anymore. Any advise would help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Somuchmojo (talkcontribs) 21:16, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You need to read WP:Reliable sources and understand it. Once you've done that, you'd need to provide several sources indicating that this breed/lineage is notable in itself. Having done that, you can submit it to Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation if you'd like to get some input on overturning the recent AfD consensus. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:26, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
