Thank you

Thank you for writing E. F. Gordon. I had the privilege of reading the article while reviewing articles that have not been added to categories. The guy is amazing, and I'm glad that I just learned about him. What would you think about renaming the article Edgar Gordon, otherwise I will create Edgar Gordon as a redirect if you have a reason not to move it there. I will also create redirects from Mazumbo and Edgar Fitzgerald Gordon. Ryan Vesey Review me!

Thanks your comments, Ryan. I agree that the article may be better renamed, though perhaps it should be Edgar F. Gordon (the way he seems most often referred to), again with the redirect you suggest. What do you think? Proscribe (talk) 19:48, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll go ahead, and then I'll make redirects. Ryan Vesey Review me! 19:49, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Guyana

Hi Proscribe! Dthomsen8 and I are trying to get WikiProject Guyana going again. I've noticed that you've helped out on a number of Guyana-related articles. Any chance you might be interested in joining up? All best, Lorelei (talk) 10:12, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, Lorelei - thanks for asking. My knowledge of Guyana is general (Caribbean-related) rather than specialist, though of course I'll help where I can. Best Proscribe (talk) 04:06, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
That's brilliant, Proscribe - thank you so much! Any help would be hugely appreciated - and there's loads of articles that would benefit massively from a lookover by someone with some general knowledge and good editing skills :) If you feel like it (though obviously don't feel obliged) we'd love to see your name on the WikiProject Guyana participants list - as much as anything else because we're feeling pretty pathetic right now with only three members!! I've noticed also that you're great at giving articles-in-need (!) a good copyedit (I think our interests, particularly Caribbean literature, overlap so I've spotted your improvements to some of the articles I've got on my watchlist) so if you do ever have a bit of spare time, there's an up-to-date clean-up listing on the WikiProject page. All best, and thanks again, Lorelei (talk) 09:50, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Columns in reference lists

The forcing of a fixed number of columns in reference lists has been deprecated in favor of specifying a column size. See template:Reflist#Columns for more on this. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:54, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Authority control

Hi there! Simple question: what is the point of adding an authority control template to an article without filling in any data? Kind regards, Coldbolt (talk) 12:56, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

This is the guideline I have been following (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Authority_control): "An empty instance of this template stays dormant in an article, until values are added to Wikidata, when it will then display them, so this template should be added to all biographies, whether or not there are authority control identifiers in Wikidata already." Have I interpreted it wrongly? Proscribe (talk) 13:08, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Ohhh thanks for answering! I thought these "values" were added to the template within the article itself, I didn't know this was done through Wikidata. That makes it a lot more clear for me and understandable that it actually is useful to add an empty authority control template to an article. Thanks Coldbolt (talk) 14:56, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Welcome! Can you list the articles you've improved since July 1 and enter them into the main list at the bottom? We need numbers on this!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:20, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your work so far. Can you provide some input on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. I seem to have upset a few people/scared some of the Nigerian editors off by including articles created before the Challenge started, but it was intended to get it off on a decent start from than starting entirely from scratch. We can start it from September, that;s not a problem.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:56, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, and for your efforts coordinating the challenge. I see the list has now been reset to start from September - not a problem for me: my focus continues to be to improve/add to Africa/African diaspora coverage whenever possible. Proscribe (talk) 09:57, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. thanks for you contributions towards the challenge. I'm running Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon from October 15 to November 27 which needs contributors. Before it starts contestants will be asked if they want articles done for it to also count towards the challenge, and it's also a chance to win some prizes for contributing towards the whole range of countries, so sign up at the destubathon if interested! Even if not interested in prizes, there will be the focus on destubbing anyway and hopefully people can still eb a part of it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:24, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Dr. Blofeld. I've added my name - not because of the prizes, just to contribute however I can to the huge task! Incidentally, re Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge, there are quite a few articles I've worked on to a lesser extent than those already added to the list (i.e. tweaked refs, punctuation, minor copyediting etc on articles that still require a lot more work) but I'm not sure what is considered significant enough to list as an improvement. What guidelines would you suggest? — Proscribe (talk) 16:48, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Welcome aboard. Yes, it's also an editathon and people can reject prizes if they want to. I hope we can set up a book fund at some point in which people who don't want prizes can donate it to a book fund and pay for books for editors in Africa etc who might want books to contribute. Yes, ideally the entries added should be ones which at least have a bit of work going in them, They're intended to be marked improvements or creations, even if it means it might take longer to meet the goal! I do appreciate MrLinkinPark showing an interest and helping though! With the UK the idea began as only listing articles which no longer need basic work, to fully cleanup or improve or create.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:57, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. Great idea, the book fund! — Proscribe (talk) 17:05, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:49, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
