Big Brother 2007 is the upcoming eighth series of the United Kingdom reality television series Big Brother. The show will air on Channel 4, beginning 30 May 2007.[1]

The first round of auditions started on 6 January 2007[2] at the SECC in Glasgow where there was a queue of only three hundred people.[3] Auditions were also held in Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, London, Manchester, and Newcastle.[4]

On 8 March 2007, it was announced that the Carphone Warehouse would not return to sponsor Big Brother 2007 after cancelling its sponsorship of Celebrity Big Brother 2007,[5] and on 21 March, that Virgin Media would sponsor the show, for a reported GB£3 million.[6]

Broadcasts

On 4 April 2007, it was announced that Russell Brand had quit the spin off show Big Brother's Big Mouth.[7] It was reported in heat that there will be a new guest host each week on Big Brother's Big Mouth.[8]

Dermot O'Leary will be returning again to present Big Brother's Little Brother and Davina McCall will be back to present the live eviction shows.[9] Big Brother's Big Brain will not be returning for the series.[10]

On 16 May, Channel 4 and E4 started to run a series of 'break-bumper' adverts for the new series. These adverts featured the new animated Big Brother eye logo.[1]

On 18 May it was rumoured that host Davina McCall was getting her own spin-off show named Big Brother On The Couch, and that the Saturday edition of Big Brother had been axed due to low ratings.[11]

Big Brother 8 is to begin 30th May 2007[2]

House

After previous speculation that Big Brother 2007 would be broadcast from a new location in Hammersmith, it was confirmed that the series would still be broadcast from Elstree. However, it will be the last series to be so, with a new house being built in Hammersmith for 2008.[12]

An aerial picture of the Big Brother house appeared in The Daily Star on 29 April 2007.[13] The aerial photos show that the old garden seems to have been transformed into additional rooms, while it is replaced by a new, smaller garden. Although the Big Brother team have covered the house and garden with a camouflage screen, extra rooms can be seen, and the roof has yet to be built.

Due to a new legislation, a smoking ban will be in effect in all public places during the series. Health officials have declared the House as a workplace, meaning housemates will not be allowed to smoke inside the house. They will still be able to smoke outside however.[12]

The Sunday Mirror has reported that there will be a Romany caravan as a punishment room for the series as well as secret rooms or gardens, accessible from the main garden via a secret button. The first housemate to discover it will be spun 180-degrees into the secret area. Other hidden rooms and oppressive decor are also being planned to increase tension. The Sunday Mirror also reported this year's theme to be 'Heaven and Hell'.[14]

Pictures of the house during construction were released in The Daily Mirror, having been taken by construction workers. They show a small garden with a pool connecting both the garden and lounge. More pictures were taken on 15 May and are now being shown.[15]

The iconic Big Brother eye has been redesigned to what has been described as a "centrifugal inter-locking RGB rainbow test card"[16] by its designer Daniel Eatock.[17] The logo's rainbow colours, which have long been adopted by the LGBT community, may be representative of the as-yet unconfirmed rumour that "at least half" of the housemates to enter are homosexual or bisexual.[18]
